The silence between them stretched painfully.
Camille stood near the penthouse entrance still holding her heels in one hand while Dante faced her across the dimly lit living room.
And for the first time in their relationship
he hesitated.
That hesitation hurt more than shouting ever could.
Camille laughed softly.
Not happily.
"There it is."
Dante stepped toward her immediately.
"Camille."
"No," she interrupted quietly. "Don't say my name like that unless you're actually going to tell me the truth."
His jaw tightened hard.
The city lights reflected faintly across the glass walls behind him while tension swallowed the room completely.
Camille crossed her arms lightly.
"She thinks I'm a liability."
"She doesn't matter."
"But the people attacking your company do."
Silence again.
Dante looked exhausted suddenly. Not physically.
Emotionally cornered.
Camille studied him carefully.
"Tell me what's happening."
This time
he finally answered.
"The attacks won't stop."
