As my points dropped to zero, ten cards slowly materialised on the screen in front of me.
Alright… let's see what I got.
Nobita Nobi's Test Results (Doraemon)
Peter Griffin's Glasses (Family Guy)
Pikachu Plush (Pokémon)
Cloak of Invisibility (Harry Potter)
Sheldon's Flash T-Shirt (The Big Bang Theory)
Hiroshi Nohara's Unwashed Socks (Shinchan)
Frank Castle (Marvel)
Slice of Life (Dexter)
Captain Jack Sparrow's Hat (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Bucky Bear (Marvel Rivals)
I stared at the list for a few seconds.I stared at the list for a few seconds.
"…Seriously?"
No wonder this mode gave ten cards for a single point. At this rate I could technically get over a thousand cards in a month, but the quality was absolute garbage.
Nobita's failed test papers?
Peter Griffin's glasses?
Unwashed socks?
What kind of cursed gacha pool was this?
Although I expected this but still seeing it was a massive blow.
I rubbed my forehead with a sigh. Out of all ten cards, only two of them were actually useful.
The Invisibility Cloak from Harry Potter was definitely valuable. I didn't even care about the original story of it hiding the user from Death. Just being able to disappear from sight was already an incredible advantage for someone in my situation.
And then there was the Frank Castle character card, which was easily the most worthwhile thing in the entire batch. I had no intention of summoning him as some kind of ally. No, this one was going to become my template, my first template.
His physical abilities were already above an average human's, and more importantly, he possessed mastery over various weapons and several martial arts thanks to his military background. The man had served as a Navy SEAL and knew countless combat tactics.
He wasn't some OP superhuman, but he was more than enough to keep me alive for the time being, at least unless something truly unexpected happened. I might have Jason's memories, but that didn't mean I had his actual combat skills. At best, there would probably be some kind of synchronisation over time. Right now, if I tried to fight like him, I'd probably get myself killed. The Punisher template solved that problem immediately.
So without hesitation, I placed the Frank card into the first assimilation slot.
Now then...It was time to figure out where exactly I was.
I got out of the bed and began searching the room. I checked under the bed, inside the table, and every corner I could think of. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything particularly useful. The only thing I managed to find was a card.
It turned out to be a driver's licence belonging to someone named Nolan Stark. Never heard of the guy.
Judging from the dust and cobwebs around the room, it was obvious this place hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Also the door isn't locked so it means I can move around freely.
Though I refrain from doing that and walked over to the window. The glass was covered with grime, so I used the curtain to wipe enough of it away to get a proper look outside.
The moment I did, one impression immediately came to mind. Cold. Dark. Gloomy. That was the atmosphere the city gave off.
Tall skyscrapers stretched into the sky, and the streets below looked just as lifeless as the weather above them. Only one name came to mind.
Gotham.
Robin knew most of the city like the back of his hand. With those memories, it was easy to recognise the place. This was the edge of city.
From what I remembered, Jason had died. After that, Bruce had most likely buried him.
So the real question was…Why was the body here? Also the body is completely healed there isn't a sign of torture.
As much as I remember the storyline, Jason was usually revived in two different ways. The first was when Superboy Prime punched reality itself, altering the timeline and bringing Jason back to life. Later, the League of Assassins found him and trained him.
The second method involved the League of Assassins directly reviving him, usually through Talia or Ra's al Ghul using the Lazarus Pit. But if the League had taken the body, there would be no reason to bring it back to Gotham. And besides, the Jason in those stories was revived as himself.
But in this case, I had clearly taken his place. So that possibility could probably be ruled out. Which meant…The first option might be the correct one.But seriously, I had no way of confirming it. And right now, I had no idea how to find out.
Taking a deep breath, I walked toward the door and slowly opened it before stepping outside the room. My body was tense, and I stayed on guard in case someone was waiting outside. But it turned out the caution wasn't necessary. The entire house seemed deserted.
There was no sound of movement, no voices, nothing that suggested anyone else was living here. Dust covered most of the surfaces, and the air had that stale smell that only appeared in places that had been abandoned for a long time. It wasn't very surprising.
This was Gotham after all. People dying or simply disappearing from their homes wasn't exactly a rare occurrence. Sometimes they died in the streets, sometimes they were caught in gang fights, and sometimes they just reached their limit and ran away from the city entirely.
I moved from room to room, checking each one carefully. First the bedrooms, then the kitchen, the washroom, and finally I ended up in the living room where I sat down on the couch. The entire place felt empty.
Although the house itself wasn't particularly huge, it was still a two-floor building with several rooms. There was even a small garden outside. Judging from the layout and the location, the family that used to live here must have been fairly well off.
Now came the real question. What should I do next? Should I leave Gotham… or stay here?
As much as I wanted to stay as far away from this city as possible considering the ridiculous number of psychos living here, it wasn't entirely wrong to say that Gotham was actually somewhat safer than other places.
This was the age of superheroes. Most major cities had at least one hero protecting them. Because of that, criminals and supervillains often gathered in those cities specifically to challenge them, many people hated the existence of heroes and tried to create chaos just to oppose them.
And that led to the most important point. Generally speaking, the stronger the superhero, the stronger their enemies.
Sure, no one was as powerful as Superman, but that didn't mean his enemies were any less dangerous. I even remembered an incident from Robin's memories where someone had managed to swap minds with Superman, switching bodies with him. That person couldn't properly control the Kryptonian body the way Superman could, and the result was massive destruction before the situation was eventually resolved.
So assuming that moving to a city like Metropolis would make me safer would be incredibly stupid. Compared to the monsters Superman dealt with, most of Gotham's criminals were still just humans. Dangerous humans, yes. But still human. Ofcourse there are some supers too but batman is quite efficient in dealing with them compared to his associates.
Still staying here means I would have chance to get seen by batman and I don't think he is going to like the fact someone took over his sidekick body. I can't also stay here permanently since I need to get food and water. Also I need to get money too for exchanging it for points. Well I have Harry's cloak but still the chances are there of the accidents.
Taking a deep breath I used the Magical cloak card and next Second I had a cloak in my hand. It is of deep black and is soft, velvety texture that catches the light. I don't have to worry about anyone seeing it right now since during my inspection of the whole house I didn't find any bugs set up anywhere. And once I began the search, I went further than I expected. I checked places I would have never thought of before.
I may have some basic understanding of how surveillance works from watching movies and shows, but I'm not arrogant enough to assume I know everything. Still, these spots should never have crossed my mind. But they did. It seems Robin's muscle memory has already started to affect me. To change me. Or maybe it's the effect of Punisher template.
I put my hands inside the cloak and it vanished from my sight. I really want someone to say I am a wizard now. Now that I think of it there is magic in this world too. Should I try to learn it?
While wondering I put the whole cloak on me before turning to the mirror. There's no reflection of me on that. It's so good. I hope to get timestop too and then it would be more fun.
Well then. Time to go see Gotham for myself.
