Atheline instinctively rested one hand on his bow. Lilith's fingers lightly wrapped around the hilt of her dagger. Neither drew their weapons, but neither lowered their guard.
"You think..." Lilith began. "The orb."
Atheline nodded.
"It must have triggered something."
There was no other explanation, nothing else had changed. The only difference between then and now, was that the orb had vanished.
Almost as though opening this final chamber had been its last duty.
Together they approached. The mummies remained perfectly motionless. The only sound was the steady echo of their footsteps against the ancient stone floor.
Reaching the doorway, they stopped briefly. The air beyond felt, different, simply untouched. A place sealed away for thousands of years.
Atheline exchanged a glance with Lilith. She gave a slight nod and together, they stepped inside.
