Chapter 8 - CHAPTER EIGHT: Worst Test

Kye Yon

Today's probably an unlucky day.

She's sitting with me on the same bench. The same bench! Means, she's sitting beside me. Though there's a gap of at least a foot between us. But where I can't stand her under the same sky—this is a big deal for me. For us.

I couldn't have imagined in decades, in my whole life, that I could ever sit beside her again. That too, at this age.

My most loathed person.

Anna Norris

"The worst day of my life." I mutter under my breath.

I hear her irritated intake of breath.

I think once of taking in the satisfying sight of her being irritated at me. But I'm not that obsessed with seeing her expressions. But I'm also not that gentle for not seeing her expressions.

So I turn my head towards her direction.

The sunlight from the window is falling upon her fair face and silky black hair like an aurora in the night sky. Her features are so sharp and stunning that though I hate her, I can never hate her looks.

And I hate myself for that.

Some strands of hair are falling upon her face. Though her hair is shoulder length, they're still long enough to block the view of her face from mine.

Why do I even notice her? I shouldn't.

But an intrusive thought crosses my mind—tuck those strands of hair behind her ear.

Bullshit!

How can I even think of something like that!

"I can't believe this is happening." I mutter again.

"Can't you just shut your shitty mouth and focus on the exam?" Anna tucks her hair behind her ear and looks at me. Irritation is written all over her face.

Inhuman

I never knew an irritated face could be this striking until I saw hers. And I'll never get enough of it.

Her eyes.

Her lips.

Her chin.

I just can't take my eyes away from her face. But I raise one eyebrow at her.

"Can't you do the same and focus on your exam?" I reply dryly.

"You know what? You're a jerk."

"Oh I didn't know that. Thanks for the information."

She grits her teeth. Satisfaction fills my chest. Okay not that bad of a day.

"How can someone be this much irritating!"

"Yeah, I'm so unique."

"You're such a piece of shit!"

"Watch your mouth, amore." A smirk plays on my lips. She has a foul mouth with a pretty face— such a dangerous combination!

"You—" Her curse is cut off by Mr. Choi.

I just can't understand this man. Why on earth he grabbed me in here to take an exam of mine only because our class-teacher wasn't able to come to school today? Couldn't he just let me rest with the others in our class? Only if gramps would hear me, I'd have complained against this teacher and expelled him!

But gramps doesn't hear me at all.

"Why are you both talking during the test " He asks us.

I'm just about to say an excuse but Anna speaks before me.

"I'm done sir." She stands up and hands him the papers. Then grabbing a book from the desk, walks out of the classroom but not before throwing me a nasty look.

Oh, amore!

I hold back a laugh.

Mr. Choi adjusted his spectacles while scanning through her answer sheets. "Oop, she's so fast."

"Indeed." I mutter and stand up. He stares at me through his glasses.

"I'm also done." And handing him the answer sheet, I flex my shoulders to release the stiffness after sitting for a long time and after having an interesting argument with mio amore aka, Anna.

I notice some of the girls drool over me as I flex my body.

Silly girls.

***

Anna storms out of the classroom and walks like she owns the corridor.

Typical.

I wait three seconds before following her. Not because I care, but because I refuse to let her think she "won" by leaving first. I'm also here on the same track gurl!

"Norris." I croon.

She keeps walking.

I smile to myself and raise my voice. "Did running away help you calm your temper?"

That does it.

She turns around so sharply that her hair whips across her face. Her eyes lock onto mine, furious and sharp.

"What do you want?" she snaps. "Still not satisfied after ruining my morning?"

I stop a few steps away from her. Close enough to annoy. Far enough to keep control.

"Ruining?" I tilt my head. "Please. Sitting beside me shouldn't be that traumatic." And try to make my sharp eyes appear cute. Though, I know they're not cute.

She laughs—a sound full of pure disdain. "You breathe and it's traumatic."

I clap slowly. "Creative. Must be why you're always at the top."

Her jaw tightens. "Say what you came to say and leave."

I step closer, lowering my voice. "Just wanted to confirm something."

She crosses her arms. "Spit it out."

"You still can't stand me." A pause. "And yet you react to everything I do."

Her eyes flash. "Because you exist." She says through gritted teeth.

Fair enough.

I smirk. "Then stop noticing me."

She steps forward, chin lifted. "Stop invading my space."

"This is a public corridor," I reply calmly. "You don't own it."

Her lips press together. "One day, Song, your arrogance will get you punched."

I lean down slightly, my breath fanning over her face. "By you?" I asked, fighting back a self satisfied grin.

"Yes."

I straighten and laugh softly. "I'd like to see you try."

She glares at me for a long second then shakes her head. "You're not worth my precious punch."

I burst out laughing. A pure laugh! "Precious punch? Interesting!"

She turns to leave again, but I speak before she gets far. "I always buy precious things, amore."

She stops but doesn't turn back.

"Keep dreaming," she says. "Who knows you might be able to get it someday."

Then she walks away. I laugh again. This pure laugh of mine is something only she brings out of me. I should be thankful for her. But I don't care about her at all.

Liar—A voice echoes inside my head, blaming me.

I exhale slowly, irritation crawling under my skin.

Good—I say to my inner self.

Because this hatred suits us.
