Chapter 29 - truth

The mansion felt heavier than ever.

Not silent.

Not empty.

Just… filled with everything that had been left unsaid.

Aarav stood in the living room, the TV still playing the news.

Kiara's press conference was everywhere.

Every channel.

Every headline.

Every word she had said…

Echoed in his mind.

"I became the villain… so Aurora could survive."

He closed his eyes for a moment.

Frustration.

Guilt.

Something deeper.

Because for the first time—

He wasn't angry at her.

He was angry at himself.

He should have trusted her.

At least tried to.

But instead—

He doubted.

He questioned.

He hesitated.

And that hesitation…

Had hurt her more than anything else.

Upstairs—

Kiara stepped into the room slowly.

Her heels clicked against the floor.

Tired.

Drained.

But still standing.

Because that's what she always did.

She fought.

Alone.

She paused when she saw him.

Aarav.

Standing there.

Waiting.

For her.

For a moment—

Neither spoke.

Because words suddenly felt too small.

Aarav took a step forward.

"Kiara…"

His voice wasn't cold.

Not sharp.

Just… real.

Kiara didn't respond.

She simply looked at him.

Waiting.

"I saw everything," he said.

"I know."

Her tone was calm.

Too calm.

And that hurt more.

Aarav exhaled slowly.

"I was wrong."

Silence.

Kiara's expression didn't change.

"I should've trusted you."

Still nothing.

Aarav stepped closer.

"I didn't understand what you did back then…"

He paused.

"But I should've tried to understand you."

That line—

Finally reached her.

Kiara's eyes flickered slightly.

"You didn't," she said quietly.

"No," Aarav admitted.

"And I don't expect you to forgive that."

He looked straight at her.

"But I'm not going to pretend it didn't matter."

Kiara looked away for a second.

Because hearing this—

From him—

Was harder than she expected.

"You think saying sorry fixes everything?" she asked.

Aarav shook his head.

"No."

"Then what does?" she whispered.

Aarav stepped closer.

Now there was barely any distance left.

"This," he said.

Kiara frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

Aarav held her gaze.

Unfiltered.

"No more lies."

"No more assumptions."

"And no more running away from this."

Kiara's breath hitched slightly.

"This?" she repeated.

Aarav didn't look away.

"This… whatever this is between us."

Silence.

Heavy.

Real.

Kiara's voice softened just a little.

"You still don't trust my past."

Aarav nodded.

"I don't understand it yet."

Then he added—

"But I trust you."

That one sentence—

Changed everything.

Kiara looked at him.

Really looked at him.

Searching.

Because this time—

There was no doubt in his eyes.

No hesitation.

Just truth.

"Why?" she asked.

Her voice barely above a whisper.

Aarav didn't answer immediately.

Because the truth—

Was dangerous.

Then finally—

He stepped even closer.

So close she could feel his breath.

"Because even when everything said I shouldn't…"

His voice dropped—

"I still chose you."

Kiara's heart skipped.

Because this—

Was no longer hate.

No longer confusion.

This was something real.

Something they both had been avoiding.

"Aarav…" she whispered.

But she didn't step back this time.

His hand lifted slowly.

Resting gently against her face.

Careful.

Like she could break.

"I don't know when this happened," he said.

"And I don't know what to call it yet…"

His thumb brushed lightly against her cheek.

"But I know one thing."

Kiara's eyes slowly closed for a second.

Then opened again.

"I'm not letting you walk away again."

Silence.

The kind that says everything.

This time—

Kiara didn't move.

Didn't argue.

Didn't pull away.

Because for the first time—

She wasn't afraid of falling.

And Aarav?

He had already fallen.

Outside—

The storm was far from over.

Vikram was still watching.

Arjun was still waiting.

And the truth—

Was still incomplete.

But inside that room—

For one moment—

It wasn't about the war.

It was just about them.
