"I hope you survive."
"So I won't feel bored anymore."
"From this day forward…"
"A new era will begin."
"The humans who survive…"
"Will receive our full support."
…
The Ultron army did not attack the members of the Avengers. Instead, they surrounded them, preventing anyone from leaving.
The meteors were rapidly approaching.
There were simply too many of them. Missiles could destroy some, but the fragments would still fall. Although the destruction from fragments might not be massive, the casualties would be far greater.
All of this had been calculated by Ultron. Otherwise, modern technological weapons could have stopped them. There would have been no need for such complicated planning.
The Avengers and Yue Tingfeng were trapped in a field of chaotic energy. Only Vision could withstand it. Vision was practically invincible, but his offensive power was somewhat lacking, and even the Mind Stone on his forehead couldn't exert much effect.
Vision could only shatter a few meteors within a limited time. The rest would still fall to the ground.
Tony was still in the air. Having run out of ammunition, he could only rely on his Iron Man armor and fight the meteors in close combat, punching them one after another. But the results were minimal—at best, he could slow their descent slightly.
"Hmm?"
Suddenly, a faint sound appeared. It wasn't loud, but it attracted everyone's attention.
A portal opened.
All eyes turned toward it. Even Ultron stopped to watch.
Di Wan stepped out of the portal.
"Di… Wan?"
Wanda wanted to call out to her, but when the words left her mouth, her voice hesitated.
The others were also uncertain. The person in front of them looked exactly like Di Wan, but her demeanor made it hard to believe she was the lively and cheerful girl they knew.
The Di Wan who walked out of the portal stood there like a queen.
Her gaze did not fall on them, but on the meteors falling from the sky.
One meteor was already extremely close to the ground. The meteors here had been released later—an arrangement deliberately made by Ultron.
As for the purpose of that arrangement… no one understood it better than Di Wan.
Facing the incoming meteors, she remained expressionless, standing like a cold and indifferent goddess.
In front of everyone, Di Wan raised her slender hand and gently waved it.
Space changed.
The entire world suddenly fell silent.
Originally, there had still been distant noises. But now, nothing could be heard—not even the sound of meteors cutting through the sky.
The silence was terrifying.
Only the sound disappeared; the meteors were still falling rapidly, without slowing down.
Di Wan took out The Book of Vishanti, holding it in one hand as it opened automatically. She murmured softly.
Tony was still trying to stop the meteors in the sky when he suddenly noticed that the meteor he was attacking had completely stopped moving. Surprised, he looked around.
"Did I just shake the world?"
Of course, Tony didn't believe his own words. He lowered his head.
Then he saw her.
Di Wan.
Tony immediately relaxed.
Returning to the ground, he saw that his teammates were completely exhausted and unable to fight.
He didn't dare take Di Wan away, and she didn't look like someone who needed help. So Tony casually walked toward his teammates.
"Great. I feel like having a drink tonight. Anyone want to join me?"
His voice came from inside the armor, trying to lighten the heavy atmosphere.
In truth, without Di Wan, even if he had survived, Pepper would not have. Many people wouldn't have survived. Tony had been completely helpless before—he didn't even dare imagine that outcome.
"If the hospital lets me drink water," Steve said while lying on the ground. He really didn't want to move, and he couldn't anyway. Ultron's kick had nearly broken his back.
Tony crouched down and checked his injury.
"Lumbar dislocation. You'll probably be bedridden for a few days."
Ultron had been observing the entire time. Especially after Di Wan appeared, he didn't act rashly. He kept watching his surroundings, worried that Karl might suddenly appear.
But now the situation had exceeded his control.
All the meteors in the sky had stopped.
Everyone else had no choice but to ignore them, but Ultron couldn't tolerate it.
"I didn't expect you to be the flaw I overlooked."
Ultron suddenly launched an attack on everyone present.
Calmly, Di Wan raised her hand and opened a portal. With a gentle push, the portal drifted toward the Avengers and Yue Tingfeng, and everyone who passed through it disappeared.
After losing his targets, Ultron turned to attack Di Wan.
"Sending them away isn't good news for you."
Faced with Ultron's arrogance, Di Wan simply closed the book and slightly moved her index finger.
Boom!!
Everything in the surrounding space began to change.
The once-green grass transformed into a massive vortex, constantly spiraling downward. The meteors in the sky were dragged toward Ultron's army.
During their flight, the meteors transformed into gigantic spikes, each plunging straight into the center of the vortex.
The Ultron army had nowhere to escape and was completely trapped inside.
At the bottom of the vortex were jagged cracks. Anything pulled into it would be crushed like meat in a grinder, reduced to fragments.
Without the meteors' tremendous impact force, nothing they brought with them would matter.
"Although this isn't the first time I've seen it… it still feels unbelievable," Quicksilver said while helping Steve stand up on a tree branch.
The others nodded in agreement.
Yue Tingfeng was also stunned.
He had always thought that although Di Wu had learned magic, her strength couldn't have increased that much.
In the movies, Gu Yi mostly fought in close combat, using magic only as support. She never truly looked like a traditional mage.
Who could have imagined that Di Wan's achievements were so terrifying?
With just a wave of her hand, she had frozen countless meteors in the sky.
And no one could even tell what spell she had used.
Most importantly, Yue Tingfeng had no idea what that book was. It had never appeared in the films.
"Was that really Di Wu just now?" Tony asked.
Wanda nodded.
"Spiritual energy doesn't lie. That was definitely her."
Just as they were about to continue talking, sparks appeared in the air, forming a circular portal.
Di Wan stepped out.
She looked around at everyone present.
Her eyes were cold and terrifying.
Anyone who met her gaze felt an inexplicable chill run through their body.
No one dared to speak.
Her gaze alone felt as if it could take their lives.
After confirming they were fine, Di Wan drew another circle and walked through it.
Everyone present breathed a sigh of relief.
Just a moment ago, it had felt as if their souls were being suppressed. Fortunately, she had left quickly.
Kamar-Taj.
Di Wan returned to her residence.
Karl hadn't come back yet. He was probably still clearing the meteors.
Just as she was about to take some clothes and go take a shower, Karl returned.
"What happened?"
After entering, Karl looked at Di Wan's completely changed demeanor and asked nervously.
Her presence was overwhelming. Anyone near her would feel intimidated and unable to speak.
"It will pass after some time," she said coldly."It's the first time I borrowed Ao Shutu's spiritual power. My personality has been slightly influenced."
Her tone was extremely indifferent.
Karl felt very uncomfortable hearing it. Under his influence, Di Wu had never been like this before.
Who was Ao Shutu?
She was one of the authors of The Book of Vishanti, a goddess from ancient times whose true strength was unknown. No one had ever truly seen her—and those who had likely did not survive to tell the tale.
This was not what Karl wanted.
Di Wan used to have a warm and lively personality. Now she seemed strange, and her once-clear eyes were different.
"Don't use that power again," Karl said seriously.
"You didn't need to rely on it in the first place."
He walked up and looked directly into her eyes.
Di Wan shook her head.
"My spiritual power isn't strong enough. Even if it grows stronger one day, the spells in the Book of Vishanti still won't fully belong to me."
They sat at the table.
Karl's frown never relaxed.
After speaking, Di Wan closed her eyes to rest.
She wanted to leave this state as quickly as possible.
This condition stripped away her emotions, making her extremely rational and calm.
But she hated it.
Without emotional perception of the world, everything lost meaning and desire.
The room was silent except for the dim light.
Karl sat across from her, never taking his eyes off her. Worry almost overflowed from his gaze.
Suddenly, shouting came from outside.
"The ancient mage—Mage Haydon is dead!"
Noise and commotion erupted outside.
Karl glanced at Di Wan before leaving the room.
She remained sitting with her eyes closed, completely indifferent to the outside world—even to the news of Haydon's death.
When Karl reached the library, he smelled blood before even entering.
Pushing through the crowd, he saw Mordo and Wong carrying a headless corpse.
Blood was everywhere.
Judging from the scene, Haydon had died only a few minutes ago. His body was still warm.
At that time, most of the mages had gone out to deal with the natural disaster.
"Hey! Are you Superman?"
A bearded man lightly tapped Karl's shoulder.
Karl had only recently returned and was still wearing his suit.
"New here?" the man asked with a smile.
This place was familiar with such situations—only those capable of speaking such words would come here to study magic.
The man extended his hand.
"Stephen Strange. I didn't expect Mr. Superman to live here."
Karl shook his hand.
"Karl El. Just call me Karl. We've lived here for three years."
"'We'?" Strange asked curiously. "Someone else lives here with you?"
"My girlfriend," Karl replied. "She's a mage here."
"Oh," Strange said with surprise. "I didn't expect you to already have a girlfriend. You two must be very happy."
He patted Karl's arm with his scarred hand.
Strange then asked curiously,
"Did you know that headless guy?"
"Yes. My girlfriend often came to the library and chatted with him for days."
Haydon's body was carried away.
After chatting with Karl for a while, Strange also left.
Karl stood in the library, looking at a book placed on the shelf:
The Book of Cagliostro.
Then he turned and walked away.
