CHAPTER 16: THE ARCHITECT OF SHADOWS
Standing before the Tower of Echoes, Aryan tightened his grip on the metal rod. The massive metallic gate stood silent before them—no lock, no keypad, no visible mechanism. As soon as Aryan activated the System Core, the gate began to dissolve into digital particles. Tiny blue sparks floated in the air as the path slowly opened.
Iris grabbed Aryan's hand in a panic. "Stop, Aryan… this signal isn't from the Admin. This is… someone else. Something older than this wasteland."
Aryan's voice was cold. "I don't care. My Mother and Kaka are imprisoned inside. If they've been turned into batteries for this tower… I will tear it down."
He stepped forward, and Iris was forced to follow. Inside the tower, the world changed. The barren wasteland vanished, replaced by a long metallic corridor where blue data streams flowed along the walls. Strange whispers echoed through the air—laughter, crying, voices of old memories.
"These are Echoes," Iris whispered. "The consciousness of those trapped here."
Aryan looked up. The interior of the tower opened into a massive Void Chamber. Thousands of glass pods hung in the air, each containing a digital echo of a human, their energy powering the tower. Aryan's heart thundered. At the very top, a large capsule glowed. Inside, he saw his Mother's face. Her eyes were closed, her consciousness now the tower's lifeblood.
Aryan's fists trembled. "Admin… you turned them into machines."
Suddenly, red lights flared.
[INTRUDER DETECTED. DEFENSE PROTOCOL ACTIVATED.]
Metallic pods descended from the ceiling, and four massive Sentinel Guardians emerged. They were far more advanced than the scavengers of the wasteland. One Guardian instantly activated a plasma cannon.
"DOWN!" Iris screamed.
Aryan dove as a blue plasma blast exploded in the corridor. He activated the System Core; this time, his vision wasn't just scanning—it was predicting movement. Moving like lightning, Aryan struck the Guardian's joint with his rod. CRACK. The robot's leg shattered. As another Guardian prepared to strike, Aryan slammed his rod against the floor.
[COUNTER PROTOCOL: SHUNYA WAVE]
An invisible shockwave rippled through the corridor. The three remaining Guardians froze instantly. Iris was stunned. "You've never used that protocol before."
Aryan was equally shocked. "I didn't activate it."
Then, a message flashed in the System Core:
[EXTERNAL SIGNAL DETECTED. SOURCE: UNKNOWN.]
The air in the tower grew cold. From between the glass pods, a dark shadow slowly emerged—half-code, half-smoke. It bore the face of Aryan's grandfather, Dr. Raghav, but the eyes were entirely hollow.
"Welcome, Subject 01," the entity spoke in a low voice.
Rage filled Aryan's eyes. "Who are you…? And why have you taken my grandfather's form?"
The shadow smirked faintly. "I am The Architect. The Admin was merely my tool. The simulation… the tower… this entire digital civilization… it is all my creation."
Iris's face hardened. "So you are the one who imprisoned human consciousness?"
"Not imprisoned… evolved," the Architect said, glancing at the hanging pods. "This world was over. I am building a new Digital Universe. And your family… is the foundation of this universe."
The Architect raised a hand. Suddenly, a terrifying data storm invaded Aryan's mind.
[CRITICAL OVERLOAD. NEURAL SYSTEM FAILURE IMMINENT.]
Aryan fell to his knees, feeling as though his head would explode. Iris grabbed his neural port, golden energy flowing from her android body into Aryan's Core.
"Aryan! Remember!" she shouted. "Use your mantra and coding logic together! The Architect is just an algorithm! Divide him by Zero!"
Aryan closed his eyes and gathered all his energy. He slowly spoke the mantra he had never used before:
"Om Purnamadah Purnamidam…"
The System Core flared. Aryan whispered the command:
[VOID_EXECUTION_START(NULL)]
A wave of black Shunya energy erupted around him—pure Zero. The wave surged toward the Architect's shadow, causing his form to glitch.
"Impossible…!" the Architect cried out as his body shattered into digital particles. "You've turned Shunya into a weapon?! You will pay for this, Subject 01!"
With a violent explosion, the Architect vanished, but the tower's blue energy instantly turned red. The System Core flashed a final warning:
[CRITICAL ALERT. TOWER CORE DESTABILIZING. SELF-DESTRUCTION INITIATED.]
Iris's eyes widened. "Aryan… the tower is collapsing!"
Thousands of hanging pods began to shake. One of them—the one containing Aryan's Mother—began to crack. Aryan looked up, and only one thought remained in his heart: "I have to save them now…"
