Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Plan Phase Two

Chapter 27: Plan Phase Two

T-Dog had considerably more strength than Morales. With one push forward, he could shove several walkers back and shouted along.

His voice immediately drowned out the surrounding walkers' hoarse sounds. The two at the rear heard it and quickly removed the riot shields from their backs.

Immediately, the front became the rear, the rear became the front.

The two at the new front started running outward. The ropes on their bodies immediately pulled the others.

A chain of several people retreated outward following the pull at their waists.

Caesar turned around, likewise running, axe never stopping, hacking wildly downward.

With sufficient force and numerous walkers, one axe swing could easily kill two or three walkers.

Walkers surged forward madly. Caesar didn't even need to aim.

Everyone in the squad charged forward with heads down. Blood splattered across their face masks—they couldn't see clearly at all, only claws filling their vision and walker heads with gaping jaws.

Not knowing if they'd run for several minutes or how long, the squad finally burst out of the walker herd.

The two at front felt emptiness ahead. The force in their hands couldn't slacken in time and they stumbled and fell to the ground.

This brought several people behind them down as well.

Caesar saw white ahead and anticipated bursting out of the herd. Cleverly, he leaped forward, vaulting over several team members.

Caesar turned around, his left hand grabbing a team member, exerting force to pull him up.

"Get up, get up!"

Helping each other up, walkers had also approached. Claws clinked and clanked against the riot gear.

The riot gear quality was good—only some light scratches and white marks.

Caesar's whole body exerted force. He slammed backward, knocking over several walkers and causing those behind to fall to the ground.

This created a vacuum zone around the team members with no walkers attacking.

"Move."

Caesar didn't miss this good opportunity, pushing several people forward.

After killing through the walker herd, their physical strength had depleted considerably. The riot gear on everyone suddenly felt much heavier.

Their legs felt like they were filled with lead. Each step forward was extremely difficult.

Caesar also noticed several team members weren't in good condition. Morales and T-Dog's helmets had gone missing somewhere. He could see their faces were pale.

"Hang on a bit longer!"

Caesar had no other options. He could only vocally encourage them, twisting his head to glance back.

The walker herd roared, following behind them, filling the street, surging forward competing with each other.

From time to time a walker would stumble and be trampled into meat paste by walkers behind, bloody and mangled.

Caesar took a deep breath and turned his head back. He didn't want to enjoy Bo Yikao's treatment.

After turning back, not running far, Caesar saw an alley ahead with chain-link fencing at the entrance.

Caesar's eyes lit up. Finally arrived.

"Give it one more push! Almost there, right ahead, charge!"

Several people were exhausted, eyes unfocused. Hearing this, they looked intently as if experiencing a final burst of energy, their feet involuntarily quickening pace.

Soon, everyone arrived.

Caesar was at the rear of the formation. He grabbed the chain-link fence and closed it shut.

The next second, walkers slammed into it, screaming madly through the fence.

Thunk—

Caesar withdrew his knife. That walker collapsed limply on the ground.

"Phew, scared me!"

"Go, get up there quick."

The alley was a dead end. Above was a not-too-high ladder that could reach the building's rooftop.

Caesar had carefully selected it. The ladder had protective railings outside, and the building wasn't too tall.

Several people had seriously depleted physical strength. Their climbing speed wasn't ideal.

Caesar looked up, then twisted his head to look at walkers pressed against the chain-link fence.

More and more walkers accumulated, pressure making the fence concave inward.

Even the fixing bolts on both sides of the fence seemed to show signs of breaking, emitting creaking sounds under unbearable stress.

Caesar no longer hesitated. Using his knife, he cut the rope at his waist.

Looking toward Morales beside him, "You urge them on. Get up there quickly!"

Morales realized what Caesar was about to do. He fell silent for a moment, then nodded heavily.

Caesar strode toward the chain-link fence, pulled out his knife, and aimed at gaps in the fence, stabbing out one by one.

Walker eyeballs were like bubbles—soft and bouncy.

Poke once and they burst with moisture.

After Caesar stabbed over a dozen walkers, those walker corpses were pushed by force from behind and forcibly wedged into the chain-link fence.

Caesar gritted his teeth and braced against the fence. Immediately he pushed the fence outward a bit, then immediately after, the fence caved inward even more.

After struggling for a while, Caesar heard a popping sound.

Caesar's eyes widened. He lunged forward away from the fence and ran in large strides into the alley.

Sure enough, the next moment the fence collapsed with a crash. Several walkers struggled to stand on their fellows' bodies, attacking into the alley.

Caesar's hands grabbed the ladder. His hands and feet moved nimbly, climbing forward.

Morales and T-Dog above also reached out, supporting Caesar.

Walkers crawled and rolled closer to the ladder. The two in front grabbed Caesar's boots.

Caesar wasn't polite. He kicked down viciously.

After a tooth-grinding sound of fracturing bones, Caesar climbed onto the platform in the middle of the ladder.

Caesar removed his helmet and exchanged glances with Morales and the others. They laughed heartily.

The feeling of surviving—truly excellent!

After catching their breath, Caesar stood up and looked out at the walker herd from above.

The alley was packed with walkers. The street outside could also see densely packed walkers desperately squeezing into the alley.

Caesar could see quite a few walkers being squeezed until black blood and flesh chunks flowed out. Some unlucky walkers had been squeezed to death.

Only then did Caesar relax. He pulled out the walkie-talkie:

"Glenn, Glenn. Assault team mission complete. Lead your teams into the market to scout supplies."

"Merle, Daryl, bring your people and drive vehicles to the plaza. Oh right, the plaza has many shopping carts—don't forget to take them!"

"Received!"

"Boss, Merle received the order. Departing immediately~"

Merle's strange laughter came through. Caesar had received responses from both teams.

On the other end at the plaza.

Glenn organized his entire body. Although he wasn't wearing riot gear, he'd done considerable protective work, applying some oil to reduce walker grip.

Jimmy wore similar clothing and walked over. "Glenn, you ready?"

"Ready. Let's go!"

Glenn took a deep breath, looked around at his team members, felt the heavy responsibility, and nodded in response.

After speaking, Glenn glanced at that blank-faced young man. He was completely different from those around him—no protective measures, like a college student on a sightseeing tour.

Glenn frowned, thinking to himself: After returning, have Caesar kick this person out of the team.

He vaguely felt something was off about this person. Conversely, Jimmy's attitude toward him was quite good.

Glenn's group got in vehicles.

Accompanied by several sturdy pickups charging into the plaza, the few disabled walkers left in the plaza were crushed one by one under rolling tires.

The pickup stopped at the market entrance. After Glenn got out, he led team members toward the market entrance.

Suddenly, a voice called out to Glenn.

"Dragon Country kid, be careful." Daryl spoke up.

Glenn frowned, too lazy to correct Daryl. He just nodded and walked toward the market interior.

"Oi, little brother, your sympathy is overflowing again." Merle clearly knew Daryl was a kind person.

But Merle had to remind Daryl to always remember not to be so kind, or he'd lose his life.

Daryl turned his face away. "I'm not."
