Everything stills. As if time froze over, taking everything with it.
It takes several seconds before my heart starts to pound, my pulse thundering in my ears while goosebumps ghost across my skin.
Terror ricocheting deep within my bones, I drag shaky eyes towards Romano. He's looking at me with fixed indifference.
"Do you?" He repeats, glancing at the photo on his desk before redirecting his gaze back to me.
Inadvertently, a gulp slides down my throat, painfully scraping the walls as it bobs.
My breath has begun to turn shallow, yet I force the wheels of my brain to spin in overdrive.
Leaning in, I dare to pick up the photo, disregarding the slight tremble in my fingers and training my eyes on it.
The woman in the photo looks young…not too youthful though, her eyes are wide and her hair a chestnut brown.
Her features are sharp and not too recognizable.
But I feel I should know her. Why else would Romano be asking me this?
