Chapter 16 - Shattered Crown

Ace's POV

The aftermath of the cafeteria brawl didn't stay in the cafeteria. As the "Supremo," the weight of the school's hierarchy pressed down on me like a physical burden. I caught up with Zein in the hallway, my footsteps echoing against the stone walls.

"Zein, stop," I commanded, my voice echoing the cold authority I was forced to maintain. She turned, her eyes still sparking with that protective fire. "You shouldn't have hit Roxane. Do you have any idea what you've done? She is a Queen of Hell University. There are protocols for a reason, and you just shattered them in front of the entire student body."

Zein didn't flinch. She stepped closer, her chin tilted up defiantly. "I don't care about her crown, Ace. She touched Jay. She humiliated her after the hell that girl went through last night. She deserved every bit of that 180-degree slap, and if she tries it again, I'll make it a full circle. Protocols don't protect bullies from me. And trust me it was satisfying ."

Without another word, she turned her back on me and walked away, her heels clicking a rhythmic beat of rebellion. I stayed there, watching her go, feeling the crown on my own head feel heavier than ever.

Author's POV

The peace was short-lived. By mid-afternoon, the bells of the Great Hall tolled—a sound that usually preceded a public execution or a major announcement.

Madam Violet stood on the raised dais, her purple robes flowing like a bruise against the dark wood. The entire student body was gathered, the air thick with suppressed whispers.

"Jasper Jean Mariano and Zein Shion," Madam Violet's voice boomed, amplified by the hall's acoustics. "Step forward."

Jay and Zein walked to the center of the hall, flanked by Keifer and the rest of the group. Roxane stood to the side, a large purple bruise blooming on her cheek, looking like a wounded predator.

"Physical assault against a High Queen is a transgression that cannot be overlooked," Violet hissed, her eyes narrowing at Jay. "You are newbie here, yet you act like barbarians. You have disrupted the order of this institution."

"Order?" Vanessa stepped forward, her voice ringing out clear and sharp. "You call a girl being slapped and bullied 'order'? Jay was defending herself, and Zein was defending a friend. If your 'Queens' can't handle the consequences of their own hands, maybe they shouldn't be wearing the title."

Madam Violet's face contorted into a mask of cold fury. She stepped down from the dais, approaching Vanessa. "Be careful, Vanessa. You speak from a position of profound ignorance. Your family has secrets tucked away in the archives of this school that would make your blood run cold. You think you know this place? You don't even know the secret of Hell University."

Jay stepped in front of Vanessa, her gaze locking onto Violet's. "It's true, isn't it? No one really knows the true secret of HU. Not the students, not the cliques... maybe not even the teachers. So tell us, Madam Violet. What exactly happens when the truth comes out? When the walls of this 'perfect' nightmare finally crumble?"

The room went deathly silent. Violet leaned in close to Jay, her voice a lethal whisper. "What happens, girl, is that those who ask too many questions find themselves silenced forever. This school doesn't just teach survival; it harvests it."

The threat hung in the air like a guillotine.

"Take them," Violet ordered, gesturing to the guards. "Take Vanessa and Jay to the interrogation wings. We will see how bold they are in the dark."

Zein stepped forward them ,"Don't you dare touch them."

Students lunged, but they didn't get far. Keifer stepped in front of Jay, his aura erupting in a wave of pure, murderous intent. Beside him, Dave moved with lethal efficiency, blocking the path to Vanessa.

"Touch them," Keifer growled, his voice a low, vibrating promise of violence, "and I will burn this hall to the ground with you inside it."

Keifer's POV

The tension was at a breaking point. I was ready to kill. I didn't care about the school, the rules, or the consequences. If a single hand touched Jay, I was going to leave a trail of bodies.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors at the back of the hall swung open. Four figures walked in—three men in impeccably tailored charcoal suits and a woman in a sharp navy blazer. The Board of Directors. The real power behind the curtain.

The lead director, a man with graying temples and sharp eyes, surveyed the chaos. "What is the meaning of this, Madam Violet? Why are students drawing weapons on each other?"

Violet smoothed her robes, her voice trembling slightly. "Directors, these students... they assaulted a Queen. They are inciting a riot. I was merely following disciplinary measures."

The woman in the navy blazer walked forward, her eyes narrowing as she looked past the guards. Her gaze landed on Jay, then shifted to me. Her entire demeanor changed instantly. The cold professionalism vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, shocked recognition.

"Ms. Mariano? Mr. Watson?" she stammered, her voice audible to the entire front row of students.

The other three directors followed her gaze, their eyes widening. They stepped past the guards, ignoring Madam Violet completely, and bowed their heads slightly in a gesture of profound respect.

"Greetings, Ms. Mariano. Mr. Watson," the lead director said, his voice now smooth and deferential. "We had no idea you were currently on the premises."

Madam Violet looked like she had been struck. "Directors? You... you know these children?"

The female director turned to the crowd, her voice echoing with authority. "Children? Madam Violet, let me introduce you to the youngest trillionaires in the Asian business sector. This is Jay-jay Mariano, the CEO of the J&K Conglomerate. and beside her is Keifer Watson, the CEO of the Watson Group."

The silence that followed was deafening. I could hear the collective gasp of the students. Shana, Roxane, Nicky, even Ace—they all looked like their brains had short-circuited. The "freak" and the "Ice King" weren't just students; they were the titans who owned the world outside these walls.

"Ms. Mariano, Mr. Watson," the lead director continued, looking between us. "Might we ask what brings the heads of two of our largest endowment contributors to Hell University... as students?"

Jay adjusted the sleeves of my hoodie, her expression shifting from a scared girl to a woman who could buy and sell everyone in the room. "Personal reasons, Director," she said coolly. "We wanted to see the 'inner workings' of the school we support so generously. And I have to say... I'm deeply unimpressed with the management."

The director's face went pale. "We... we apologize for any misunderstanding. Is there anything you require? Anything at all to make your stay more comfortable?"

I looked at Madam Violet, who looked like she wanted to melt into the floorboards. I stepped forward, my hand finding the small of Jay's back, pulling her close.

"Not right now," I murmured, my silver eyes locking onto Violet's. "But I think we've seen enough for one day. We'll be in touch regarding the future of this institution's funding."

We walked out of the hall, the crowd parting for us like the Red Sea. We weren't just survivors anymore. We were the masters of the game.

Raze's POV

I leaned against the cold stone pillar at the back of the Great Hall, my arms crossed, watching the spectacle unfold. Most of the students were staring at Jay and Keifer like they were gods who had just descended from Olympus. Trillionaires. CEOs. The power couple of the century.

But I wasn't looking at their bank accounts. I was looking at the way the Board of Directors—men who usually treated the school like a personal chessboard—were sweating. They weren't just respectful; they were terrified.

And it wasn't because of the money.

I caught the eye of the woman in the navy blazer. For a split second, her professional mask slipped, and I saw a flash of something else: recognition. Not of Jay the CEO, but of something deeper. Something buried in the Restricted Archives.

"Youngest trillionaires," she had said. A perfect cover. A story the world would swallow without blinking. But I'd spent enough time in the shadows of Hell University to know that names like 'Mariano' and 'Watson' appeared in files that predated Jay and Keifer's birth—files marked with the symbol of the Black Rose.

As the group walked out, the air in the hall didn't get warmer. It felt thinner, like the oxygen was being sucked out by a vacuum.

Zein's POV

I stood frozen as the Red Sea of students parted for Jay and Keifer. My hand, still stinging slightly from the slap I'd delivered to Roxane, felt heavy at my side.

Trillionaires? CEOs?

The words echoed in the silent hall like a death knell for the old regime. I looked at Jay's retreating back—the same girl I had spent weeks protecting, the girl I thought was a fragile target in this den of wolves.

She wasn't just a survivor; she was the one who signed the checks that kept the lights on in this hellhole.

A strange, hysterical laugh bubbled in my chest but I choked it down. All this time, we were playing a game of survival, while they were essentially conducting an audit.

I looked at the Board of Directors, who were still bowed in a posture of forced humility, and then at Madam Violet, whose face had turned a sickly shade of grey.

The "Queen" of Hell University had just been dethroned by a girl she tried to send to the dungeon. I felt a surge of predatory satisfaction. The rules didn't just break—they were deleted. I caught Jay's eye for a split second before she exited, and for the first time, I didn't see a victim. I saw a partner.

"Well," I whispered, loud enough for the trembling Raoxane to hear. "I guess the 'Queen' just became a peasant."

Ace's POV

The weight of the "Supremo" title didn't just feel heavy anymore—it felt pathetic.

I looked at my hands, the hands that were supposed to hold the absolute power in this school, and realized they were empty.

I had lectured Zein about protocols. I had warned them about the consequences of touching a High Queen. I had lived my life by the rigid, blood-soaked laws of Hell University, believing them to be the ultimate reality.

And in sixty seconds, Keifer and Jay had reduced those laws to ash.

Watching the Directors—men I had been taught to fear as the shadow-masters of our world—bow to a student in my hoodie... it was a physical blow to my gut.

Keifer wasn't just the "Ice King" of a high school clique; he was a titan of industry. He didn't need to fight for a throne here because he already owned the mountain the throne sat on.

I looked at Madam Violet. Her "secret of Hell University" suddenly seemed like a bedtime story compared to the reality of the Watson and Mariano influence. They could shutter this place with a single phone call.

My gaze shifted to Zein. She was standing tall, a smirk playing on her lips, looking more at home in the chaos than ever. I realized then that the hierarchy was dead.

I had spent so much time trying to protect them from the school, never realizing the school was the one that needed protection from them.
