Chapter 27 - Chapter 25 — The First Fall

The shift in power was immediate.

The air itself seemed to bend around Elara as she stood there, silver light wrapping her like a living storm. The hunters hesitated—just for a second.

But that second was all the pack needed.

"Push them back!" Gamma roared.

Lycans surged forward with renewed force, claws clashing against steel as the clearing erupted once again. The beast moved beside Elara like a shadow of destruction, driving hunters away with terrifying precision.

Lucien didn't move.

His eyes were on her.

Watching.

Measuring.

"Elara," he said carefully. "Stay with me."

She didn't answer.

Her gaze was locked on the hunter leader.

The mark on her wrist pulsed faintly, like a warning that hadn't fully gone silent.

The hunter tilted his head, studying her.

"Interesting," he murmured. "You're learning faster than expected."

Elara took a step forward.

"So are you leaving," she said, her voice steady, "or do I make you?"

A flicker of something—amusement, maybe—crossed his face.

Then it vanished.

"Take her."

The command snapped through the clearing.

The hunters didn't rush blindly this time.

They moved strategically.

Two broke toward Lucien.

Three circled wide.

And one—

Slipped past the fight entirely.

Straight toward Elara.

Gamma saw it first.

"Elara—behind you!"

She turned—

Too late.

A sharp, silver chain shot through the air, wrapping around her wrist before she could react. The mark flared violently at the contact, sending a jolt of pain through her arm.

She gasped.

The hunter yanked hard.

Elara stumbled forward, the silver energy around her flickering wildly.

Lucien moved instantly.

But he wasn't fast enough.

Another hunter intercepted him, driving a blade across his side. He growled, twisting away, but it cost him seconds.

Seconds they couldn't afford.

The chain tightened.

Elara cried out as the power inside her surged out of control again, clashing violently with whatever the chain was made of.

"Let her go!" Lucien's voice shook the clearing.

The hunter holding the chain smirked.

"Not a chance."

The beast lunged forward—

But the hunter leader stepped in its path.

With a single movement, he activated something on his arm.

A pulse of energy exploded outward.

The beast was thrown back with a deafening crash.

The clearing froze for a split second.

Shock.

Impossible.

Gamma's voice broke through it.

"That thing just—"

But there was no time.

The chain tightened again.

Elara dropped to her knees.

"I can't—" she gasped, clutching her arm. "It's blocking me—"

The silver light flickered, unstable.

Weakening.

Lucien's expression changed.

Not anger.

Not control.

Something deeper.

Dangerous.

He moved again—faster, more brutal—tearing through the hunter in front of him without hesitation.

Nothing stood between him and Elara now.

Nothing except—

The hunter leader.

They met in the center of the clearing.

Power collided.

Lucien struck first, claws slashing with lethal force. The hunter barely dodged, his weapon sparking as it clashed against Lucien's strength.

"You're too late," the hunter said calmly.

Lucien didn't respond.

He attacked again.

Harder.

Faster.

But behind them—

The chain pulled.

Elara was dragged across the ground.

"Lucien!" she cried.

Gamma tried to intercept, but another wave of hunters cut him off.

The pack was being divided.

Separated.

Losing ground.

The beast rose again, injured but furious, charging toward Elara—

But the hunter holding her was already retreating into the trees.

Step by step.

Pulling her away.

Taking her.

"No!" Lucien roared.

Something inside him snapped.

The air around him darkened as his power surged violently, forcing the hunter leader back for the first time.

Lucien didn't chase him.

He turned.

Ran.

Straight toward Elara.

But it wasn't enough.

The forest swallowed her.

The last thing he saw—

Was her hand reaching out.

And then—

She was gone.

The chain vanished into the darkness.

The clearing fell into chaos behind him.

But Lucien didn't hear it.

Didn't see it.

Didn't care.

Because for the first time—

He had failed.

And somewhere in the shadows—

The hunters were already disappearing with their prize.
