Chapter 10 - Certainly Aren't Wasting My Time.

Rena's PoV

It took some time, but I was able to tell Nancy everything. Her reactions are dramatic, but I totally get it.

"So, now we have to find Daisy without any lead?"

"I thought about asking some people, but it might expose me and my plans. Hard to trust anyone from there."

Nancy nodded in understanding. "And do you trust Kevin now?"

I would have laughed at how similar we were, but my emotional bank is empty.

"I don't trust him, but I do trust him a little more since he involved you. He must have known that the only person he could trust was someone who didn't belong to that Pack."

Nancy doesn't react. She just stayed still, and I left her alone because I know it's a lot to take in at once. After some minutes, she clapped her hands together.

"Let's get you dressed. You are right, the first thing is getting to Carter Pharmaceuticals."

She pointed at the large box. "Your clothes are there. Try not to dress like your problems. Maybe now is the time to use those goddess-given looks."

I rolled my eyes. My looks had done nothing but get me in trouble my entire life. Vanessa hated my golden hair and forced me to leave them dyed black until I married Jason.

Oh fuck this. Why do I keep making this mistake?

I shook my head and rummaged through the clothes in the box. "Nancy, you didn't think to grab survival clothes?" Most of them were dresses and official clothes.

I glanced over just in time to see Nancy shrug. "I just grabbed your best clothes. I packed enough survival clothes for two."

Her reasoning didn't make complete sense to me, but I focused on finding something appropriate.

Eventually, I settled on a dark green dress. Green was one of my favorite colors because it always made my hair and eyes pop.

By the time I was done dressing up, I was surprised to see that Nancy had packed up everything.

"Kevin knows where we are. And someone dropped you here yesterday. That's too many people."

"Go to Carter Pharmaceuticals, and I will move everything to another city until we find a solution."

I blinked hard to stop the tears that were pooling in my eyes. Unable to form the words, I threw myself at Nancy and hugged her tight.

"Thank you, NanNan."

Nancy forced me to use more perfumes and then sent me out the door only when she was sure that I looked presentable enough.

Luckily, I found a cab almost immediately and turned my phone on after telling him the address.

The phone dinged nonstop for the next five minutes with several messages from Jason and Vanessa.

I saw that Kevin had sent me some messages, too, where he asked where I was. He probably did that to make sure Jason wouldn't know about his involvement.

A part of me felt glad to see how panicked Vanessa and Jason sounded in their messages.

I wondered how much madder they would be once they realized I had taken the only successful batch of the tonics.

Carter Pharmaceuticals was the next city from here, but this human city was just as big as a small town, so it took about forty-five minutes until the cab parked in front of the huge building.

It felt like a lifetime ago when Kevin had parked here yesterday.

Yesterday, I had been nervous and worried that Alpha Rhys would turn down our investment request, and today, I was planning to come in and tell him to take back that same investment.

The most important thing to me yesterday had been proving myself worthy of being Jason's Luna, but right now, I just wanted my baby back.

I was still nervous, but there was another feeling now.

Hope.

If I were able to convince Alpha Rhys to work with me, I might be able to use his power to find Daisy

That was the most important thing.

Unlike yesterday, I knew what way to go, so I walked towards the elevator. On getting closer, I noticed the elevator was just about to close, so I broke into a short run and was luckily able to press the stop button.

My eyes widened as the elevator opened fully and I realized that Alpha Rhys and Beta Jamie were the ones in the elevator.

"Good morning," I greeted hurriedly as I stepped in. I could still feel Alpha Rhys' gaze on me even as the elevator started to move.

"Nice to see that you are getting comfortable, Miss Mirel."

I was confused and instinctively glanced at Beta Jamie, who shrugged. "This elevator belongs to our top executives."

Damn.

I realized that the receptionist must have done me a favor yesterday by asking me to use this elevator so I could get to the meeting quickly enough.

That was probably why Alpha Rhys came in after me.

I owed her a giant cup of coffee and cookies, but right now, that favor was biting me in the ass.

My face was most certainly red from shame, and I gave Alpha Rhys a small bow while avoiding his gaze. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize."

I heard a chuckle, but when I glanced at both men's faces, they were blank and unreadable.

Was that in my head?

"Miss Mirel, you are here quite early. Do you have all the documents already?" Jamie asked, breaking the dead silence.

"I was hoping we could make some changes and discuss other arrangements…" The chime of the elevator as it stopped rang clear and interrupted my words.

I stood still and waited for Alpha Rhys to step off, and then followed behind Beta Jamie. I was glad to be away from the man.

There was no telling if it was because of the rumors or because he was a stronger Alpha, but the air around him felt thinner and colder.

It was nothing like being around Jason or Jason's father.

Completely different.

However, we had barely taken two steps when Alpha Rhys' voice rang out. "Jamie, don't you have that meeting with the executives right now?"

"Miss Mirel, come with me. You can discuss all the arrangements and changes with me."

I'm waving my hand without thinking. "No, no. I can wait for him to be done with his meeting."

Alpha Rhys turned completely to face me, and I noticed the slight frown between his brows.

"Is it something I can't know about?"

I shook my head hurriedly. "No, I just think it's better if I don't disrupt your plans or waste your time."

His brows arched slightly, and he had a small smile that made him look like he was amused by something.

"The money is coming from me. You most certainly aren't wasting my time."

Before I could throw in another word, he added.

"Come along," then he turned and walked in the other direction from Beta Jamie.

Beta Jamie had a smile on, and he nudged his chin towards Alpha Rhys.

I should have taken another elevator. I would have simply gone to the top floor and requested a meeting with Beta Jamie.

But right now, I had no choice, so I took a deep breath and followed after Alpha Rhys.

Goddess help me.
