Chapter 63 - Chapter 62: Third Eye

"We're back" Yuuji murmured to himself as he entered his house.

He went in, changed into his indoor shoes, set his things down, and sat on the sofa.

Then he turned his head toward the girl sitting beside him.

"Did you have fun?"

"It was fun" Yami nodded.

"I see, good for you" Yuuji smiled.

"By the way, Yuuji... who are they?"

Yami pointed with her hair at the people sitting in the dining room, watching their interaction with interest and amusement.

A couple, a man and a woman, to be exact.

Yuuji sighed tiredly and stood up from the sofa.

"They're my parents, they probably want to talk to you, see you tomorrow."

Yami tilted her head in confusion for a second before simply nodding. "See you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow, Mom, Dad" Yuuji greeted as he walked past them, and since they knew his personality, they just greeted him back and didn't bother him as he went up to his room.

"Sleep well, son, you had a busy day."

...

"So, what did they tell you?" Yuuji asked the next day while having breakfast in the dining room.

Yami stayed silent for a second before answering.

"I am your sister now" she finally said.

"Just like that?"

"...does it bother you?" Yami frowned at Yuuji's reaction, showing a rare trace of disappointment.

"It's not that, it just feels like you decided very quickly, right? After all, being adopted means separating from your previous mother."

"...I don't care, she abandoned me first."

"Well, I don't know much about your mother, or creator, but from what I've heard she doesn't seem like a bad person, right? Are you sure it's not some kind of misunderstanding?"

"...I don't know. But I don't care."

'Looks like she holds a lot of resentment, huh?' Yuuji realized words wouldn't convince her. She had reached a point where she hated her creator enough to not care about the reason anymore.

"Alright then, welcome to the Yuuji family."

"I will be under your care from now on" Yami said, bowing slightly.

"Oh, a custom from here, where did you learn that?" Yuuji said, surprised.

"Mikan taught me."

"Mikan, huh?" Yuuji made a mental note to thank her later and tell her to keep teaching Yami Earth customs. "By the way, where will you live now? Will you keep staying here or live with them?"

"They told me I could live with them. But it would be too sudden, so I can stay here and go there only on weekends" Yami explained.

"And do you want that?"

"Nn" Yami nodded. "I like Earth and the people I've met here, like you or Mikan.

They also seem like good people, so I can try to get to know them."

"I think I said it before, but you're more open than you seem."

"No, I... wasn't like this before" Yami confessed.

"So it's an Earth thing, huh? Then it's something good."

"I guess" Yami replied before suddenly standing up. "I'm leaving."

"Is it that time already? Well, goodbye. Be careful on your way" Yuuji said.

Yami just nodded and left.

"A new little sister. It'll take me a while to get used to it" Yuuji murmured once Yami had gone.

Even though he had acted normally and even expected it, that didn't change the fact that suddenly having a new little sister, especially one who used to be just a character from a series he watched, made him feel...

'I'm not even sure how I feel about it.'

The only reason Yuuji could interact easily with Yami was because he treated her like a known character whose "story" he understood, so to speak.

But just like he did with Lala before, now that Yami is part of his family, he can't do that anymore and has to make an effort to truly get to know her.

"Looks like it'll be a hassle" Yuuji sighed, but then smiled. "Even so, having the best assassin in the galaxy as a little sister is something I never would have imagined."

As Yuuji thought about how to act from now on, time passed slowly and it was time to leave.

Yuuji left his house and started walking with Lala on the way to the high school, something that had already become routine.

Rito decided not to go with them to avoid feeling like a third wheel again.

[Six Eyes

Epic Ability

Jujutsu Kaisen, Grants exceptional visual prowess that can even penetrate through solid matter, incredible calculation ability, and energy efficiency, but overuse will strain your eyes heavily.]

"What a waste" Yuuji couldn't help but mutter after seeing his reward from using the ticket he got for gaining a new superpowered little sister. Having that thing without cursed energy was like having the Sharingan without chakra.

Even though Yuuji now has incredible vision, with many functions like a top-quality camera, being able to do things like see details from kilometers away, see even with his eyes closed, have better reflexes, "see" information, and more, it still felt like a waste to him.

The only good thing was that his enhanced body no longer needed to cover his eyes to avoid discomfort from the overload of information.

Basically, what should have been an amazing bloodline ability from a powerful combat world turned into a simple spiritual third eye.

"A waste? What thing?" Lala asked from his side.

"It's just that I awakened a new power. But it basically just improves my vision" Yuuji said, not minding telling her the truth.

"Wow, you just awaken powers out of nowhere like it's nothing? Amazing!" Lala exclaimed before staring into his eyes. "Now that I look closely, your eyes seem to shine more, I wonder if..."

Yuuji watched as Lala looked at him like he was some strange specimen and, without hesitation, reached out and grabbed the heart-shaped tail swaying behind her.

"Mnaaah!" Lala let out a small moan of pleasure before covering her mouth, blushing as she looked around to see if anyone noticed.

"Y-Yuuji... don't touch my tail out of nowhere... at least not in public" she complained.

"If you promise you won't try to investigate me, I won't."

"A-ahaha" Lala laughed awkwardly before pouting slightly. "Alright, I was just a little curious, I'm an engineer, not a biologist, even if you let me experiment on you I wouldn't understand anything."

"I'm sure the crazy things you make cover way more fields than just engineering" Yuuji replied, not believing her.

"Really?!" But Lala reacted with excitement instead.

"Really."

"Hehe" Lala smiled proudly.

"That's not a..."

'Whatever, let her smile' Yuuji gave in, realizing he had been doing that a lot lately.

"But aren't your eyes cool? Why do you say they're a disappointment?"

"Well, it's hard to explain, but these eyes should help me control a kind of supernatural energy easily, but Earth doesn't have that energy" Yuuji explained.

"Supernatural energy" Lala thought. "Like the kind ghosts use?"

"Among other things" Yuuji nodded.

"In that case, Risa told me there's a ghost in the old school building, why don't we go check if your eyes work?" Lala asked with the excitement of someone who found the perfect cheese to test on a lab rat.

"No... fine" Yuuji sighed, giving in again, and Lala smiled brightly, satisfied.

'I need to learn to resist her smile' Yuuji thought to himself.

...

"So, what are you all doing here?" Yuuji looked at the group following them as they headed to the old school building after classes ended.

"We came to see ghosts" Mio and Risa said in unison beside him.

"I came to prove ghosts don't exist" Rito explained, holding the exact opposite stance of Risa and Mio, sparks of rivalry flying between him and Mio.

Yuuji just shrugged, not really bothered by them following.

"Come on, Yuuji, let's see your ability" Lala said, pulling him along.

It didn't take long for them to reach the building and enter through the door, which was open due to the place's age and old architecture.

Inside, the atmosphere was different, little light entered, so darkness dominated, the air was damp from the old, moldy wood, and wind slipped through the thin cracks in the walls, producing strange noises.

But of course, none of them cared, since none of them feared ghosts, on one hand there was Rito, who didn't believe in them, on the other were the rest, who did believe but found them interesting rather than scary.

"Yuuji, Yuuji, do you feel any?" Lala asked excitedly, whispering to maintain the atmosphere.

"Of course there's nothing" Rito said dismissively.

Yuuji looked around, trying to sense if there was anything, whether with his Six Eyes or any of his abilities.

After a few seconds, with tension hanging in the air, Yuuji finally answered.

"It's incredible how many presences there are in this place" he said, frowning.

"Wohoo, I knew it!" Mio said excitedly, jumping and high-fiving Risa, who shared her excitement while looking at Rito and making a victory pose with her fingers.

"Y-Yuuji? You must be joking" Rito said, forgetting his earlier confidence and returning to his timid self.

"Well, if it helps, I only feel one ghost" Yuuji shrugged.

"Phew, just one... ONE GHOST?!"
