TWO WEEKS LATER
Warm sunlight filtered through the curtains, spilling across the bed.
I stirred slightly before opening my eyes.
For a brief moment, I simply lay there, staring at the ceiling.
The space beside me was already empty.
Alexander was gone.
I frowned.
Usually, even if he woke before me, he'd stay in bed for a while or leave me a note.
I reached for my phone.
8:12 a.m.
There was only one unread message.
Alexander
"Good morning, baby. I had to leave early today. Don't worry about anything and enjoy your morning. I'll see you later."
A faint smile tugged at my lips.
Enjoy my morning?
What an odd thing to say.
For the past two weeks, Alexander had been unusually busy. Things at Blackwood Dominion had been running normally, so I couldn't understand what was keeping him occupied or why he wouldn't tell me about it.
I sat up and glanced around the room before letting out a quiet sigh.
Maybe I was just overthinking things.
