Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: New Home

Mom! I'm starving!" Leo yelled as soon as they stepped inside the house.

"You just had snacks on the plane," Selena said calmly, setting down her bags. "Sit down, and we'll have something in a few minutes."

"I want more than a few minutes!" Leo shouted, flopping dramatically onto the couch.

"You're lucky you're cute," Selena said with a faint smile.

"I am extremely cute!" Leo said, striking a pose and pretending to faint.

Lila rolled her eyes. "He's ridiculous."

"Entertaining," Luke said, leaning against the counter with a smirk.

"I'm not entertaining! I'm starving!" Leo shouted.

"You're always starving," Lila muttered.

"Consistency is key," Selena said lightly, carrying the last of the luggage inside.

The kids immediately raced to the kitchen.

"Snacks! I need snacks now!" Leo demanded, dropping himself onto the floor like it was a throne.

"Patience," Selena said calmly, setting down her bag. "First, unpack. Then snacks. Then maybe calm down a little."

"Calm down? Impossible!" Leo shouted.

Lila giggled. "He's right."

Luke leaned back, chuckling. "Impossible is the family motto today, apparently."

Leo pointed at him. "See! He agrees!"

Selena shook her head, smiling faintly. "Children, you'll never understand the power of patience."

Leo groaned. "Patience is boring!"

A few minutes later, the twins were arguing over a single chocolate bar.

"Mine is bigger!" Leo yelled, holding it high.

"Nope! I got it first!" Lila shouted.

"Sharing is optional," Luke said casually.

"Optional?!" Lila gasped.

"Optional in theory. Negotiable in practice," Luke added.

Selena raised an eyebrow. "Luke."

"Optional negotiations are educational," he said, shrugging.

Leo laughed. "Mom, he's teaching us!"

"It's confusing," Lila muttered.

"Learning requires discomfort," Selena said lightly, pouring herself some water.

Later, Leo grabbed a toy truck and zoomed it across the living room.

"Mom! Look! I'm racing the truck!"

"Careful, or it'll crash into the chocolate," Selena said calmly.

"Then it's dramatic!" Leo shouted.

Lila groaned. "Everything is dramatic with you."

Luke chuckled. "Welcome to being Leo."

Leo stopped suddenly. "Wait… Mom, can we get a bigger snack? I mean… extra fancy snack?"

Selena smiled faintly. "You already have snacks. The only thing extra fancy right now is patience."

Leo gasped. "Patience is boring!"

Lila laughed. "Boring… but maybe important."

Selena set down her water and leaned against the counter, watching quietly as Luke tried to mediate a toy dispute.

"Mom, I think Leo cheated," Lila said, glaring at her brother.

"Cheated? Impossible!" Leo said, hands in the air.

"Very possible," Luke said, grinning. "I saw it with my own eyes."

"I did not!" Leo shouted.

"You did, you little trickster," Lila said.

Selena shook her head. "Rules are for humans. Strategy is for children like you."

Leo frowned. "Strategy… sounds boring."

"Boring is subjective," Selena said. "But chocolate isn't."

As the twins argued over who got the bigger snack, Luke leaned closer to Selena.

"You're very calm," he said quietly. "I mean… most people would explode in this house."

Selena smirked. "Exploding doesn't solve snack wars."

"True," he said. "But does calm solve it?"

"Sometimes," she said, sipping her water. "Sometimes it just makes them more creative."

Luke laughed quietly. "I see. Chaos, then, is part of your plan?"

"No plan," Selena said lightly. "Just observation and timing. Wait until they make the next mistake… then act."

Later, they moved to the living room. Leo was now racing a chair like it was a car, while Lila was drawing her own "map of the empire."

"Mom! You're the queen!" Leo said. "I'm the emperor! Lila is the general! Luke… what are you?"

"Advisor," Luke said with a grin.

"Advisor?" Lila asked. "You just sit there?"

"Mostly," he said. "But occasionally I give life lessons, like 'don't eat all the chocolate at once.'"

Leo cheered. "Perfect! Advisor is good! Advisor can't stop me!"

"Exactly," Selena said calmly. "Advisor watches, waits, and makes notes. Very important."

Lila rolled her eyes. "Mom… you're weirdly smart about chaos."

Selena smiled faintly. "Smart and calm. That's survival, my dear general."

By evening, the twins had moved on to pretending they were hosting a "tea party empire."

"Mom, Luke, you must drink the tea!" Leo commanded.

"You're making me drink imaginary tea?" Luke said, smiling.

"Yes!" Lila said. "It's magical tea. You must obey!"

Selena raised an eyebrow. "Magical tea? Hmm… very important for empire survival?"

"Of course!" Leo shouted. "Magical tea keeps the empire safe!"

Luke chuckled. "I feel like I just signed a treaty."

Selena smiled faintly. "Consider yourself bound. By law of the empire."

Finally, as the twins yawned and curled up on the couch, Luke poured juice for everyone.

"Mom… best day ever," Leo mumbled.

"Agreed," Lila said softly.

Luke laughed quietly. "They've taken over the house."

Selena smiled faintly, watching them sleep. "They've taken over… but they'll survive it. That's the important part."

Leo muttered from the couch, "Mom… chocolate tomorrow?"

"Maybe," Selena said lightly. "Maybe after breakfast."

Luke shook his head, smiling. "You're calm… I like that. Makes this chaos tolerable."

Selena smirked. "Tolerable is the goal. Not perfection."
