(MASON'S POV)
A knot tightened in my stomach.
"Blue? What's wrong?" I asked quietly, instinctively gripping his hand harder.
Blue didn't look away from the forest. "Elves. Six of them heading this way."
The words ahit me like cold water.
I stared at him. "Elves?" I let out a nervous laugh. "You're joking."
He finally glanced down at me, and the seriousness in his eyes made my pulse stumble.
"No."
My mouth fell open slightly. "Elves are real too?"
Blue gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. "Very real."
Panic immediately crawled up my spine.
I grabbed onto his arm with my free hand and shifted closer to him until I was nearly hiding behind his side. "I don't know what I'm supposed to expect," I admitted, my voice embarrassingly small. "I'm scared."
Blue's expression softened instantly.
His free hand slid to my back, rubbing slow circles between my shoulders. The steady motion calmed me a little, though my heart still hammered wildly against my ribs.
