Chapter 9 - Chapter 10: Secrets Beneath the City

Eldra City had returned to uneasy calm after the eclipse. Streets were busy again, but every shadow, every corner, seemed to whisper danger. Arin Vale, heart still pounding from the last battle, knew it was only the beginning. The collaborator's fall had not destroyed the network—only slowed it.

Sylith led the Gifted down a hidden staircase beneath the Veil Beacon tower, deep into Eldra's forgotten tunnels. Dust and cobwebs filled the air, but the pulse of the Veil hummed stronger here, guiding Arin toward a place long hidden from human eyes.

"This place…" Kaela whispered, scanning the walls, "it feels… alive."

Arin's seed pulsed in his hand, its golden light reacting to hidden glyphs etched in the stone. They're here. My parents were here.

At the end of the tunnel, a massive stone door blocked their path. Arcane symbols shimmered faintly, resonating with the Veil. Arin placed his hand on the center glyph. The seed flared, the symbols lighting up fully. The door groaned and swung open, revealing a hidden chamber—his parents' secret base.

Inside, crystalline consoles flickered with ancient magic. Scrolls, artifacts, and glowing maps covered every surface. A massive mural depicted battles against shadows spanning centuries, and at the center was a figure strikingly similar to Arin—his father, seed in hand, fighting a colossal shadow.

Sylith hovered close. "This is where they planned their last mission. They left you clues, Arin. Everything here points to the hidden faction above ground—their allies… and their enemies."

Arin stepped forward, eyes scanning the chamber. Among the artifacts, a journal lay open, glowing faintly. He read:

"The red one… must be watched. Shadows corrupt those who seek power for themselves. Our son will bear the seed. Trust only those the Veil chooses. The city's safety depends on him."

Outside, the city erupted into chaos again. Shadows had launched guerrilla strikes, appearing in small, fast-moving packs. Market stalls burned, vehicles overturned, citizens screaming. The Gifted ran into the streets, using light, fire, and traps to protect civilians.

Arin's mind raced. He had to make a choice: pursue clues about his parents' mission deeper in the tunnels, or stay above ground and help fend off the attacks. Every second mattered.

Sylith's voice rang in his mind: "This is your trial, Arin. Courage is not just power—it is choice. What will you sacrifice for duty, and what will you risk for discovery?"

Arin clenched his fists. "I can't abandon the city… but I can't ignore the truth about my parents either. I'll split my focus—I can do both."

With precision born of experience, Arin formed threads of golden light, striking shadows with pinpoint accuracy while creating portals to transport injured civilians to safety. Kaela and Nico coordinated attacks, their magic perfectly synchronized with his.

Meanwhile, Arin discovered a hidden glyph at the chamber's far wall—another clue. He activated it, and a holographic map revealed safe corridors, shadow strongholds, and a hidden vault where a powerful artifact awaited—the Crown of the Veil, rumored to amplify the seed's power to unimaginable levels.

He realized instantly: whoever controlled the Crown could dominate Eldra City—and potentially the entire Veil. The shadows' coordinated attacks weren't random—they were designed to distract, to weaken the Gifted, and make it easier for the Crown to fall into enemy hands.

As night fell, the city below simmered with firelight, smoke, and chaos. Arin stood on the rooftop of his parents' hidden base, looking over Eldra. He felt the weight of his legacy pressing down: protector of the Veil, guardian of the city, and the one chosen to find his parents.

Sylith's voice was calm but firm. "You are ready, Arin Vale. The trials will only grow harder. Shadows will adapt, collaborators will betray, and the path forward will demand choices no one else can bear. But courage, combined with wisdom… will light the way."

Arin gazed at the horizon, golden threads of the Veil humming around his hands. He knew the next battle would test everything: skill, heart, and resolve. And deep down, he felt it—the truth about his parents, the hidden faction, and the Crown of the Veil, waiting just beyond reach.

Eldra City's shadows whispered, but Arin Vale was listening too.
