Chapter 8 - The Proud Rose

Once there was a very beautiful rose in a garden. Anyone who saw it wished to pick it and keep it. The rose was extremely proud of its beauty. Day by day, it seemed to become even more beautiful. People would come to the garden, admire the rose, and try to touch it or pluck it. But the rose was full of arrogance. It never allowed anyone to come close.

Whenever someone tried to approach, the rose would show its sharp thorns and hurt them. It believed that it was the most beautiful flower in the entire garden and that no one was worthy of touching it. The rose would proudly say to itself, "Look at me! I am the most beautiful flower here. Everyone wants me because of my beauty. I am special, and I don't need anyone."

Other flowers in the garden quietly watched the rose's behavior. Some felt sad, while others simply stayed silent. Among them was a simple marigold flower growing nearby. The marigold was not as beautiful or elegant as the rose, but it was humble and kind. It did not boast about itself and happily allowed people to admire it or use it for prayers and decorations.

Time slowly passed.

The rose that was once a small bud gradually bloomed into a full and magnificent flower. Its petals were bright and soft, and its fragrance filled the garden. People continued to admire it from a distance, but because of its thorns and arrogance, no one wanted to pick it anymore.

The rose continued to live proudly, thinking it had won over everyone.

But nature has its own rules.

As days turned into weeks, the rose began to change. The bright petals slowly started losing their freshness. The strong and lively flower gradually became weaker. The wind blew gently across the garden, and one by one the petals of the rose began to fall.

At first, the rose did not notice it. But soon more petals started dropping to the ground. The once beautiful flower was slowly losing its charm.

Within a few days, most of the petals had fallen. The rose that once stood proudly in the garden was now weak and almost empty. Finally, the last petals dropped onto the soil.

Along with the petals, the rose's pride also fell to the ground.

Now the rose looked around the garden with sadness. The flowers that once admired it were still blooming happily. The marigold beside it was still bright and cheerful, spreading its simple beauty.

Seeing the fallen rose, the marigold gently spoke.

"My friend," said the marigold softly, "your pride became the reason for your downfall. When you were at your most beautiful stage, many people wanted to take you with love. They wanted to place you on their heads, decorate their homes with you, or keep you close to their hearts as a sweet memory."

The rose listened quietly.

The marigold continued, "If you had not been so arrogant, someone might have taken you with great affection. You could have been part of someone's happiness, someone's celebration, or someone's prayer. You might have been remembered as a symbol of love and beauty."

The rose looked down at the ground where its petals were scattered.

"But now," the marigold said gently, "look at what has happened. Your petals have fallen to the soil, and your beauty is gone. Pride made you push everyone away, and in the end you were left alone."

Hearing these words, the rose finally understood its mistake.

It realized that beauty does not last forever. Time changes everything. The rose thought deeply and said to itself, "I was proud of something that was temporary. I believed my beauty would last forever, but I was wrong."

The rose now understood an important truth of life.

No beauty, power, or success lasts forever. What truly matters is humility, kindness, and the way we treat others when we have the chance.

Before the wind carried away the last of its petals, the rose accepted its lesson.

It finally realized that whatever good we can do in the right moment, we should do it without pride or arrogance. Because time never waits, and opportunities once lost may never return.
