Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Extinguishing the Sun

The sky above the Heavenly Pavilion, usually a canvas of eternal gold and floating jade palaces, fractured like a dropped mirror.

From the jagged, violet-rimmed rift, Cain stepped out into the open air. He didn't fall. The [Void-Domain: Eternal Night] expanded around him, turning the midday sun into a bruised, sickly purple. Below him lay the "Inner Sanctum"—a sprawling complex of white marble towers and ancient gardens that had stood for three thousand years.

[Location: Heavenly Pavilion — The Golden Seat]

[Detection: 5,000 Disciples (Avg. Level 35)]

[High-Threat Targets: 4 Great Elders (Level 65+)]

[Supreme Threat: Sect Master Tyrant-Sun (Level 78)]

"The Devourer! He broke through the Heaven-Slaying Array!" a voice screamed from the guard towers.

Great bronze bells began to toll, their sound heavy with a panic the sect hadn't felt in centuries. Thousands of disciples took to the air on flying swords, their combined mana forming a sea of gold that attempted to push back Cain's darkness.

Cain looked down at the "Holy Land" with a cold, detached hunger. His [Mark of the Gatekeeper] pulsed against his chest, demanding more essence to stabilize his Level 47 frame.

"You called me a parasite," Cain's voice projected across the entire mountain range, amplified by the siphoned lunar energy. "But you are the ones who built a paradise on a stolen foundation. Today, the debt is collected."

"Legion of the Void: SUMMON!"

Cain's shadow stretched across the clouds. From the darkness, two massive figures materialized. Garek, the Grave-Shield and Feng, the Solar-Wraith descended like twin comets of shadow. Feng, now a dark reflection of the Pavilion's own power, roared as he swung a scythe of black sun-fire, instantly vaporizing a wing of flying disciples.

[Massive EXP Gained: +22,000]

[Level Up! Current Level: 48]

"Enough!"

A pillar of pure, blinding white light erupted from the central palace. Lord Tyrant-Sun ascended, his hair floating in a halo of solar plasma. He looked less like a man and more like a miniature star. In his hand was the [Scepter of the Burning Heavens], a Rank S artifact.

"You have committed the ultimate sin, boy," Tyrant-Sun hissed, the air around him melting into slag. "To rip the veil of a Secret Realm and bring the Void into our sanctum... you are not a cultivator. You are a cancer."

"Then perform your surgery, 'Doctor'," Cain mocked, his [Void-Domain] swirling faster.

Tyrant-Sun didn't waste words. He pointed the scepter. "Seventh Art: Solar Flare Extinction!"

A beam of light, thin as a needle but hot enough to core a planet, shot toward Cain's heart. It was a Level 78 strike—something Cain shouldn't have been able to even perceive.

[Skill Activated: Step of the Void-Walker (Phase Mode)]

The beam passed through Cain's chest as if he were a ghost. The mountain behind him, however, wasn't so lucky. The entire peak vanished, turned into a cloud of glowing dust in a fraction of a second.

Cain reappeared behind Tyrant-Sun, his hand already wreathed in the [Sovereign's Void-Crush].

"My turn," Cain whispered.

He didn't aim for the Sect Master. He aimed for the Golden Seat—the massive jade throne below that served as the anchor for the sect's "Heaven-Slaying Array."

CRACK.

The impact didn't cause an explosion; it caused an implosion. The throne, the palace beneath it, and the very ley lines of the mountain were sucked into a singular point of darkness. The "Great Array" that protected the sect didn't just fail—it inverted.

[Warning: Heaven-Slaying Array has been 'Devoured'.]

[Conversion: 200,000 Mana Points absorbed!]

[Sovereign Rampage: 100% Critical Status!]

Cain's body began to glow with a terrifying, translucent silver. The energy from the array was too much for a Level 48 body to hold. He felt his veins cracking, his very soul straining against the influx of power.

"You... you fool!" Tyrant-Sun laughed, though his eyes were wide with horror as he watched his sect's foundation disappear. "You've swallowed more than you can digest! You will detonate and take us all with you!"

"Then I'll just have to grow a bigger stomach," Cain rasped, the violet light in his eyes turning into a blinding white.

[Emergency Evolution Initiated!]

[Requirement Met: Consumed a 'Sect-Grade' Mana Source.]

[Evolution Stage 4: Void Monarch — 50% Progression.]

Cain grabbed Tyrant-Sun's arm. The Sect Master tried to flare his Level 78 mana to burn Cain away, but it was like throwing water into a sun. The [Gluttony's Touch] was no longer a skill; it was a law of nature.

"Tell me, Sect Master," Cain said, his grip crushing the Rank S armor. "How does it feel to be the fuel for the very 'cancer' you feared?"

As Cain began to drain the Level 78 master, the sky above the Pavilion turned black as ink. The stars themselves seemed to lean closer, as if the Ninth Chain was already starting to rattle.
