Chapter 21 - The Key Inside

The wind outside howled like something alive, shaking the broken cabin door.

Inside, Luca stood frozen.

"Inside… me?" he repeated slowly.

Adrian didn't look away.

"Yes."

Luca shook his head, confusion flooding his mind. "That doesn't make sense. I'm not hiding anything."

Adrian walked closer, lowering his voice.

"Fifteen years ago, your father disappeared after betraying the Neon Syndicate. Before he vanished, he took something extremely valuable from them."

Luca's hands tightened around the photograph.

"What was it?"

Adrian's jaw clenched.

"A master key."

Luca frowned. "A key to what?"

"To everything."

Adrian grabbed a chair and sat down, as if preparing to reveal a story that had been buried for years.

"The Neon Syndicate doesn't just control money or weapons," he said. "They control information… secret accounts, hidden networks, blackmail files on powerful people across the world."

Luca's heartbeat quickened.

"And the master key," Adrian continued, "is the only way to access all of it."

Snow blew into the cabin through the broken doorway, swirling across the wooden floor.

Luca ran a hand through his hair.

"But why would he put that inside me?" he asked.

Adrian sighed quietly.

"Because you were the only person no one would suspect."

Luca felt a strange chill crawl down his spine.

"How could he even do that?"

Adrian hesitated.

"Through a medical implant."

Luca's eyes widened.

"A chip?" he whispered.

Adrian nodded.

"A small encrypted chip. Hidden somewhere in your body."

Silence fell between them.

The thought made Luca feel sick.

"So the Syndicate has been hunting me… because I'm carrying their stolen key?"

"Yes."

Luca stared at the fire, trying to process everything.

"My father turned me into a target," he said bitterly.

Adrian watched him carefully.

"No," he said. "He turned you into the most valuable person in the underworld."

Before Luca could respond—

A faint engine sound echoed through the storm.

Both men froze.

Adrian immediately stood and walked toward the window.

Through the falling snow, dark headlights appeared between the trees.

"Cars," Adrian said quietly.

"How many?" Luca asked.

Adrian counted the lights.

"…Four."

Luca's chest tightened.

"More assassins?"

Adrian's expression turned serious.

"No."

"Then who?"

The cars stopped in front of the cabin.

Car doors opened.

Several tall figures stepped out, their silhouettes visible through the storm.

One of them walked forward slowly.

The man wore a long black coat, and even from a distance his presence felt… dangerous.

Adrian's face darkened.

"Oh no."

Luca looked at him.

"What is it?"

Adrian spoke a single name.

"The Hunter."

The tall man stopped a few meters from the cabin.

Then he called out loudly through the storm.

"Luca Nero."

Luca's blood ran cold.

The stranger's voice was calm… almost amused.

"You've been hiding for fifteen years."

He slowly pulled a gun from his coat.

"But the Neon Syndicate always collects what belongs to it."

Adrian stepped in front of Luca.

"Stay behind me," he said quietly.

Outside, the Hunter raised the gun.

And smiled.
