Chapter 15 - Jensen Morvath

(AN: Sorry for the missed days, I am currently studying and practical is what I focus on the most meaning I typically don't have enough time to write but I will try to make it up to you guys)

Jensen stood beside the bed and looked down at Daisaku.

The old man lay motionless under the dim light of the room. His chest rose and fell slowly, each breath weak and shallow.

The bandages Maria had wrapped around his body were already stained with faint traces of blood.

For a while, Jensen said nothing, he simply stood there and watched.

'So, this is what life could look like even after reaching the top…'

Daisaku had once been a powerful man, someone feared across the town, yet now he looked no different from any dying old man.

Jensen stared a moment longer before turning away because there was nothing more to see.

Without another word, he left the room.

He climbed to the first floor and moved towards the balcony. Outside, the faint sounds of the town drifted through the walls.

Jensen stepped onto the small balcony.

The air was cool on his skin as he rested his arms on the railing and looked down at the street in front of his house.

People walked by without paying him any attention.

From hunters to merchants to ordinary people living ordinary lives and for a long time, Jensen simply watched them.

His thoughts slowly drifted. 'How long have I been living like this…'

It was a life that never changed, a life that never improved. Jensen slowly exhaled.

The thought had been growing in his mind for a while now.

At first it was small, almost easy to ignore but over time it became harder and harder to push aside especially after he killed his father and when he got vampyre bloodline.

He wanted something better, something greater than this small life but if he wanted that, some things had to change.

One of the first things that came to mind was his name.

Jensen Miller.

He frowned slightly.

Miller.

That name had never meant much to him, and it now belonged to a past he no longer cared about or wished to remember.

The more he thought about it, the less he wanted to keep carrying that surname as his.

It felt like dragging around chains from a life he had already left behind.

After a moment, Jensen spoke quietly. "Xal'Zyraeth."

A faint voice answered from beside him originating from his ring.

"What is it now?"

Jensen leaned further on the railing before he continued, "I've been thinking about something."

"You are always thinking about something," Xal'Zyraeth replied calmly.

Jensen ignored the remark. "I'm want to change my name."

There was a brief pause.

Then Xal'Zyraeth spoke again. "That is not something I can decide for you."

"I know," Jensen said. "But I thought I'd ask what you think."

The Xal'Zyraeth's voice went silent for a moment before answering.

"Names are strange things," Xal'Zyraeth said slowly. "Humans give them far more meaning than they truly have."

Jensen listened quietly.

"In the end, a name is nothing more than a sound used to call someone. It does not define strength. It does not define destiny."

Jensen remained silent while Xal'Zyraeth continued.

"There have been countless powerful beings across the universe. Some carried glorious names that were remembered for ages while others were forgotten completely."

"But power was never born from the name. The name only gained meaning because of the one who carried it." Xal'Zyraeth continued.

Jensen thought about that.

"In truth," Xal'Zyraeth added, "you could call yourself anything you want. It would not change who you are."

The street below remained busy people continued walking.

No one knew that Jensen was standing there, thinking about something that would change the rest of his life.

After a moment, Jensen spoke again. "What if I used your name?"

This time, Xal'Zyraeth paused a little longer. "My name?"

"Yes." Jensen answered as his eyes remained on the street.

"The surname, 'Morvath'."

Silence followed then Xal'Zyraeth let out a quiet laugh, "if that is what you want, I do not mind."

Jensen frowned slightly, "That's it?"

"Did you expect me to refuse?"

"Maybe."

Xal'Zyraeth voice sounded amused. "Like I said before, names are not important. If you wish to carry that surname, then carry it."

"It been millions of years since I have been gone and I am sure that I am most likely forgotten by now."

"Maybe back then it would have mattered but not anymore. Now the name doesn't matter anymore just what you do with it."

Jensen thought about those words for a moment, and they made sense to him.

A name had no power on its own but the person behind it could give it meaning.

Slowly, Jensen nodded to himself. "Then it's decided."

"Jensen Morvath." Jensen said as he thought, 'Sounds so weird.'

He remained there for a few moments before shouting. "Maria."

A few seconds later the sound of footsteps came from inside the house. The wooden door behind him opened quietly and Maria stepped onto the balcony.

She looked a little tired from treating Daisaku, but her posture remained straight.

"You called?" she asked making sure to avoid eye contact with Jensen, she was still scared of him after he killed Jack but now, he even returned with a very powerful level 2.

Jensen reached into one of the spatial rings he had taken from the XR gang.

A moment later a thick bundle of Gold notes appeared in his hand.

These were paper notes used mostly by the Unawakened and Gamma Rank awakened. Each note was made of pure gold.

Jensen held the bundle out toward her. "There should be several thousand there," he said.

Maria accepted the money without hesitation. She did not even count it, she simply held it, waiting for instructions.

Jensen spoke calmly. "I want you to go to the registry office tomorrow."

"I'm changing my name."

He paused briefly.

"My new name is Jensen Morvath, and you will also change your surname to Morvath."

(A.N: I might have used coins by mistake before but please we are using notes)
