Leo's breath caught, just for a second. He couldn't help it.
"And ever since then, you've been running around in my head."
He blinked, glancing down at the garden lights, trying to calm himself.
"That's… wow," he managed, letting out a nervous laugh. "You really remember the weirdest stuff, don't you?"
Alex grinned, almost to himself. "I guess I do."
"Oh, like when some guy bails off his bike and just embarrasses himself?"
"Mmm," Alex hummed. "Especially that part."
Leo scrunched up his face, pretending to be offended. "Wow. Thanks for the support, man. Real confidence-builder."
Alex turned, soft smile flickering across his face. "You didn't look stupid, Leo."
Something about the way Alex said his name made Leo's chest tighten again. Too gentle. Careful, almost.
He swallowed, fingers running along the cold railing. "You sure? Pretty positive I faceplanted. Hard."
