They broke apart and the kiss ended but nothing else did.
Marcus pulled back slowly like he was fighting gravity. His hands stayed on her face for just a moment longer than they should have. His eyes were dark and full of something that looked like war.
"This changes everything," he said.
Grace's breath was coming fast. Her entire body was shaking. "Everything was already changed."
"Not like this." Marcus moved away, putting the desk between them like it could create distance between what had just happened and what had to come next. "If anyone finds out about this, they'll use it to destroy us both. Dominic will use it. Sarah will use it. My father will use it as proof that I've betrayed the family."
"So we don't tell anyone."
