Chapter 42- The Grind and is Nezu an Otaku?
The first week of training was hell.
Every morning, Cid showed up at the reinforced facility just after sunrise. Dr. Tanaka would give him a quick check-up, assessing his condition from the day before. Once she cleared him, he would step into the large painted circle on the floor and begin.
Warm-ups came first. Push-ups, squats, lunges, and planks, all performed while actively compressing the space around his body. The pressure made every movement a struggle causing his muscles to burn almost immediately. Sweat poured down his face and back within minutes. Every time his focus slipped and the compression wavered even slightly a rubber bullet would crack against his skin, leaving fresh welts and bruises.
But the running was the worst part.
For the first three days, Cid tried to maintain constant compression while sprinting laps around the facility. Every time he lost focus a bullet would slam into his most painful areas, sending him stumbling or crashing to the ground writing in pain. By the end of each session, his body was covered in new marks, and he could barely stand. But he kept pushing through, determined to improve.
On the fourth day, he started to get used to the strain and actually started improving.
While running, Cid started trying to *feel* the space the bullets occupied instead of just reacting to them. He kept the compression active but tried to extend his awareness outward, using the pressure around him like a crude sensor. The first few attempts failed miserably, bullets still found their mark, and he hit their mark. But he kept trying. By the end of the day, he was managing to twist or lean just enough to turn some direct hits into glancing blows a few times.
It wasn't much.
But it was progress.
In the afternoons, after the physical conditioning, Nezu had him switch to pure Quirk control. Cid stood in the circle and focused on expanding the space that touched his skin, trying to create a buffer that could stop incoming attacks. At first, the effect was messy and uneven. Sometimes the expansion was too weak to matter. Other times it flared out too strongly in one direction while leaving other areas completely exposed. The rubber bullets still found him more often than not, but he refused to give up and kept working at it.
By the end of each day, once the main exercises and Quirk drills were finished, Nezu made him run through a set of weight lifting exercises under constant pressure to push his body to its brink at the end of every practice.
By the end of the first week, Cid's body was a mess of bruises in various stages of healing. His muscles ached constantly, and even simple movements felt heavy. But he didn't complain. He showed up every day, pushed through every failure, and kept trying to improve his control.
On the sixth day, during one of the final exercise sets, he managed to keep the compression active for nearly the entire circuit without dropping it once. The bullets still hit him a few times, but he was starting to read the rhythm of the shots better.
He was improving.
Slowly.
Painfully.
But improving.
Sunday morning arrived quietly.
Cid woke up stiff and sore all over. His movements were sluggish and uncoordinated as he sat up on the edge of the bed, rubbing his face with one hand. Every muscle in his body protested the motion. He reached for the workout clothes he had laid out the night before and began pulling them on, his arms and legs moving with visible stiffness in jerky motions.
Yui lay on her side behind him, in nothing but one of his oversized shirts. She watched him quietly for a moment, her eyes narrowing as she took in how rough he looked. His shoulders were tense, his posture slightly hunched, and every movement seemed to cost him effort.
Before he could finish getting dressed, Yui reached out, grabbed the back of his shirt, and yanked him backward onto the bed with surprising strength.
Cid let out a startled noise as he landed on his back. "Yui— what the— I'm going to be late—"
She didn't let him finish. In one smooth motion, she pulled his head down and buried his face between her breasts, wrapping her arms around him and squeezing tightly.
"You're not going today," she said firmly, her voice still a little sleepy but determined. "I'm canceling it."
Cid's protests came out muffled against her chest. He tried to push himself up, but she only held him tighter, one hand moving to the back of his head to keep him in place.
"Yui— I can't just—"
His words were completely lost in the soft warmth of her chest. She squeezed him again, effectively silencing him.
Still holding him with one arm, Yui reached over to the nightstand with her free hand and grabbed her phone. She scrolled for a moment, then hit the call button.
It only rang twice before Dr. Tanaka picked up.
"Good morning, dear," the older woman answered cheerfully.
"Morning, Mrs. Tanaka," Yui said, her voice calm but firm. "Cid isn't coming in today. I'm making him take it easy."
There was a short pause, then Dr. Tanaka let out a light laugh.
"That's probably for the best. He was going to have to take a break soon or he'd collapse on us. Make sure he drinks plenty of water, eats a proper meal, and gets real rest today. A bit of light stretching later wouldn't hurt either, but nothing intense. Let his body recover."
Yui nodded even though the woman couldn't see her. "Understood. Thank you."
"Anytime, dear. Take care of him."
Yui ended the call and set the phone down. She looked down at Cid, whose eyes were peeking up at her from between her breasts with a small, annoyed expression.
She smiled and gently booped his nose with one finger.
"Hush," she said teasingly. "We're sleeping in today. And are you really going to complain about your current situation?"
Cid's muffled reply was completely unintelligible, but she could hear him sigh lightly. Then he shook his head side to side and burrowed deeper into her chest instead of trying to pull away.
Yui let out a soft giggle.
"I didn't think so," she murmured, running her fingers through his hair. "Now go back to sleep."
She pulled the blanket up over both of them, keeping him tucked firmly against her. Within minutes, Cid's breathing evened out again, the tension in his body slowly easing as he gave in and let himself rest.
Yui stayed awake a little longer, gently stroking his hair and watching his face relax. A quiet, fond smile stayed on her lips as she finally closed her eyes and drifted back to the realm of Morpheus with him.
They woke up sometime past noon, the sunlight in the room now softer and more golden.
Cid was already awake, lying on his side with his arms wrapped securely around Yui's waist. He was still tucked into her chest with his head happily enveloped in it. He didn't move, content to just hold her a little longer even though his body was stiff and sore from the week of training.
Yui stirred after a few minutes. She let out a small, sleepy sound and gently loosened her hold on him.
"It's probably time we get up," she murmured, her voice still husky from sleep.
She slipped out of bed first, stretching her arms above her head with a soft groan. Cid stayed lying there, watching her. As she stretched, the oversized shirt she was wearing rode up just enough to expose the curve of her butt. His eyes locked onto it instantly.
Yui glanced back over her shoulder and caught him staring. A slow, teasing smirk spread across her face. She deliberately stretched a little more, arching her back slightly to give him an even better view.
Cid didn't even try to hide the way his gaze followed her.
She let out a quiet laugh and finally lowered her arms.
"You should do a bit of light stretching while I go make us some sandwiches," she said, turning toward him. "I'll find something for us to watch too."
Cid grumbled but nodded, slowly pushing himself up into a sitting position. His body protested every movement, but he started doing some gentle stretches on the bed like she suggested.
Yui got dressed then disappeared downstairs for a little while. When she came back, she was carrying a tray with two plates of simple sandwiches, some fruit, and a couple of bottles of water. She set everything down on the small desk and smiled when she saw Cid still stretching.
"Good," she said approvingly. "Now come eat."
They ate together on the bed, talking quietly about nothing important. Once they were finished, Yui pulled him back down with her. She settled against his chest with her back to him, and he wrapped an arm around her waist as they got comfortable. She grabbed the remote and started scrolling through options until they settled on *Jujutsu Kaisen*.
They watched in comfortable silence for a while, Cid's hand occasionally drifting absently along her body just feeling it. Yui didn't seem to mind. If anything, she leaned back into him a little more, enjoying the attention.
Eventually they reached episode 7 in the anime.
On screen, Satoru Gojo was explaining his abilities and the concept of his cursed technique **Limitless**, the way he could control space itself, creating an invisible barrier that stopped anything from reaching him by dividing the space between him and the target. He spoke about attraction and repulsion, how it worked with his abilities.
Cid's attention sharpened.
The more he listened, the more his mind started turning. 'Holy shit… I could do something like that right? Sure it wouldn't be the same but close.' Parts of what Gojo was describing sounded eerily similar to what he had been practicing all week, compressing space, expanding it, trying to control the area around his body. The idea of creating something like Infinity, even on a smaller scale, suddenly felt possible.
'Is Nezu an otaku…?'
The thought hit him so suddenly that his body stiffened behind Yui without him realizing it.
Yui felt the change immediately. She tilted her head back to look up at him.
"What was that, you ok?" she asked, curious.
Cid hesitated for half a second, then admitted quietly, "I was just thinking… some of what Gojo's doing with his technique feels kind of like what I've been trying to do with my Quirk. And then I wondered if Nezu's secretly an otaku and is trying to make me like Gojo."
Yui stared at him for a moment.
Then she burst out laughing.
"Pffffttttttt—hahahaha!"
She rolled slightly in his arms, shoulders shaking as she tried (and failed) to hold it in. The mental image of tiny Principal Nezu wearing a Jujutsu Kaisen hoodie and surrounded by anime merch and wearing a little blind fold was apparently too much for her.
Cid couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips as he watched her laugh, even as his face warmed slightly as they laughed together.
