Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – Lantern Shadows

The palace lanterns swayed gently in the evening breeze, casting a warm, golden glow across the marble floors. The Fourth Prince moved silently, careful not to be seen by the ever-watchful palace guards. Tonight, he had heard rumors — the dancer would perform near the moonlit pavilion by the river.

When he arrived, there he was: the familiar swirl of white silk, the silver bells jingling softly with each elegant step, fan flicking in measured arcs. Their eyes met immediately. The veil shifted slightly in the moonlight, revealing just the shadow of a smile.

"You come again," the dancer said, voice teasing, almost musical.

"I told you," the Prince replied, stepping closer, letting the shadows hide him. "I cannot stay away."

The dancer moved like water, circling the pavilion. Each step was precise, every spin a test. The Prince matched him in rhythm, silent, deliberate, letting the dance speak for him.

A sudden ripple on the river startled a guard, but both men remained unseen, slipping through the shadows like ghosts. The Prince's pulse quickened as their sleeves brushed once again — deliberate, intimate, teasing.

"You are… dangerous," the dancer murmured.

"And you," the Prince replied, "are irresistible."
