"Are you alright, Miss?" Officer Brown asked me after our confrontation with Clarissa.
I was taking a deep, relieved breath after Miles and Clarissa left, because honestly, it took me huge courage to confront them, because they were both my biggest fears.
Clarissa was like a boogeyman who tormented me since I was just a child, and Miles was the personification of my failure as a woman and a mother, because I chose the wrong man to become my husband and the father of my child.
But I had to stand tall in front of them despite my racing heartbeat, because I had to protect Aurora. I failed to protect her once, and would never fail her for the second time.
"I'm alright, thank you for helping me, Officer," I smiled at Officer Brown, and then turned around to return to my daughter's ward.
Unfortunately, Ray had to go back to his office because there was an emergency. But he made sure that I was well-protected with Aurora.
