In this world, there was a very unique matter that had occupied Dan's mind since the very first day he arrived here. In fact, he had occasionally thought about it even before his transmigration, back when he watched the story as a television series in his original world.
It was an issue that seemed simple on the surface, yet the deeper he examined it, the more he discovered layers of complexity and strangeness hidden beneath. It was the matter of souls and the way they were handled within this world in general.
It appeared that in this world there were many methods and techniques capable of interacting with that mysterious, unseen aspect of existence with remarkable clarity and ease. The best example of this was the famous technique created by the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, which could summon the spirits of the dead and bind them to deceased bodies, allowing them to return and fight as though they were alive once more.
To Dan, this had always been extremely strange and worthy of investigation from the very beginning. The very idea that the dead could even be revived through the power of the Rinnegan went far beyond conventional logic and required an entirely different conceptual framework to analyze correctly.
Therefore, when he began his practical research into spiritual energy and its relationship with willpower and the concept of the soul itself, he gradually started to understand the matter through continuous study, accumulated observations, and countless experiments.
Every step he took in understanding spiritual energy revealed another piece of the puzzle and added a new layer of comprehension atop everything he had learned before. Yet one central question had remained unanswered for a very long time . the question of the Pure Land, the realm said to house the souls of the dead after they departed from the material world.
That fundamental question was finally answered in a surprising manner when the effectiveness of his Fourth Vitality Seal reached an extremely advanced stage of development. As a result, his sensory abilities increased to their absolute limit.
His perception reached a level capable of penetrating the various layers surrounding the planet itself. Through that level of perception, he was able to directly sense the hidden realm known as the Pure Land rather than merely theorizing about its existence.
He confirmed the rest when he began traveling through outer space and exploring other planets in distant star systems during his long exploratory journeys.
From this, he reached an important and shocking conclusion. The realm known as the Pure Land did not exist anywhere else within the vast stretches of space he had explored so far. It belonged exclusively to this single planet and to no other world among the countless planets and stellar systems he had visited. Every other world he had investigated lacked this additional dimension connected to spirits and everything associated with them.
Then came the next question, one that in his view was even more pressing and complicated.
Who had created this world in the first place?
It was a difficult question, one that resisted simple and convenient answers. Yet he was completely certain that the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, had nothing to do with the creation of the Pure Land, despite the fact that he currently resided there after the death of his physical body.
So who had created the Pure Land?
Did it arise naturally after countless complex interactions on this planet over millions of years, eventually emerging as a unique phenomenon? Had it been born alongside the planet itself from the very moment of its creation, existing as an inseparable aspect of its nature? Or had some ancient civilization or perhaps an advanced species constructed it millions of years ago for a specific purpose before disappearing or leaving this world behind?
Dan did not yet know the definitive answer.
However, based on all the evidence and observations he had gathered, he leaned strongly toward the conclusion that someone had deliberately created this realm rather than it emerging randomly or naturally.
Especially because the Pure Land contained certain strange entities that resembled folkloric monsters deeply connected to the realm itself. Yet these beings possessed no true free will. They behaved more like programs specifically designed for that world, operating according to predetermined rules. The existence of entities functioning in such a manner generally suggested the presence of a creator rather than random formation.
Then there was another matter one even more fascinating from both a philosophical and scientific perspective.
Did what traveled to the Pure Land after death truly constitute the soul in the complete and literal sense of the word?
This question, too, was one Dan had managed to answer through his research and his deep understanding of spiritual energy and its true nature.
Only then did he realize that the common understanding of the soul within this world was completely mistaken and failed to reflect the deeper truth.
The matter was not nearly as simple as it appeared on the surface, nor could it be reduced to the simplistic concept of a soul that people casually spoke about and accepted without understanding its true essence.
What passed into the Pure Land after death was actually far simpler than a soul. However, because there were numerous intertwined layers and levels to the process layers that could only be understood by someone who had reached an extremely advanced comprehension of spiritual energy the truth remained unclear to most people.
As a result, the easiest conclusion for them was simply to call it a soul.
