Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Pacification Successful

Feng He walked over, grabbed Lin Jingjing's hand, and began to seriously check her pulse.

'Hmm, aside from malnutrition, low blood sugar, and some anemia, there are no other major problems with her body.'

Seeing Lin Jingjing struggling on the hospital bed, her face contorted in pain, the two of them were extremely anxious.

When everyone was at a loss, Shi Feng clapped Feng He on the shoulder and said, "When Sister Lin used to have her really bad episodes, you would always sing to her."

"Why don't you give it a try now?"

Hearing this, Captain Li looked up and glared at him, scolding Shi Feng, "What time do you think this is? You still want to sing to her? Are you trying to make things worse for her?!"

Shi Feng felt wronged. Everyone was helpless right now; he was just offering a suggestion.

How could he possibly wish ill on Sister Lin? Sister Lin was their leader. Of course, Shi Feng wanted her to be safe and sound.

At that moment, Feng He stood up and said, "It's worth a try."

Captain Li grew angry again. "You're listening to this kid too? Are you treating her life like it's a joke?"

Feng He shook her head. "No. We want Sister Lin to get better more than anyone, but right now, I don't know what's causing her to be like this either."

"In the past, whenever she became extremely agitated—wanting to hit people or, in extreme cases, even kill—I was always the one who sang to calm her down." Feng He explained to Captain Li, looking at him seriously after she finished. "Please, trust me, Captain Li."

Seeing Feng He's earnest expression, Captain Li didn't say any more, but he remained stubborn.

"Do whatever you want. If she dies, it's on her. Go ahead and mess around."

"You're all treating her like this. There's no point in an outsider like me caring."

Hearing his words, Feng He and Shi Feng exchanged a look.

'Looks like he agrees.'

Feng He pulled over a chair, sat down, and then reached out to take Lin Jingjing's hand.

Perhaps from the sheer pain or something else, Lin Jingjing's whole body was twisted like a pretzel on the bed. Her brow remained tightly furrowed, and pained murmurs escaped her lips.

If Captain Li hadn't been holding her shoulders down, the way Lin Jingjing was contorting herself, she would have twisted right off the bed and onto the floor.

Feng He cleared her throat and finally began to sing.

Thankfully, this body's voice was the kind that was a pleasure to listen to, a sound that seemed to purify the listener.

"When hardship comes your way, please raise your left hand~"

The moment Feng He began to sing, it was as if everything around them fell silent.

All other noises faded away, leaving only her pure and beautiful singing voice.

In the darkness, upon hearing the song, Lin Jingjing felt her entire being purified.

The incessant voices that had been screaming in her ears slowly faded away, and her mind became clear.

She lay peacefully in the darkness, her hands clasped over her chest, and closed her eyes in tranquility.

At that moment, Lin Jingjing felt as if she were lying on a vast, soft, and comfortable prairie, her whole body light as air.

And on the hospital bed, Lin Jingjing had now quieted down.

Captain Li watched this scene, his sharp, hawk-like eyes widening slightly.

His stubbled face was filled with disbelief. 'Singing a song was all it took to calm her down?'

Feng He hadn't expected it to actually work either. She looked up at Shi Feng beside her, bursting with excitement.

"It worked!" Feng He exclaimed excitedly.

Shi Feng clapped her on the shoulder in encouragement. "I knew you could do it."

Captain Li stood to the side, one arm crossed over his chest, the other hand stroking his long beard, his brow furrowed.

He looked left and right; Lin Jingjing was lying on the bed, sleeping peacefully.

The frenzied state from before was completely gone.

"How did you do that?" Captain Li asked, his gaze fixed on Feng He. "Did your spiritual power mutate?"

Feng He shook her head. "I don't know."

After replying, Feng He couldn't resist patting herself on the back. "Maybe my voice just has that kind of magic. She stopped moving after hearing it."

"Hah," Captain Li sneered. "Don't get ahead of yourself, you good-for-nothing."

'He would never admit it!'

'That Grade D good-for-nothing's singing really does have some kind of magic to it!'

Now that Lin Jingjing was quiet, Captain Li, not wanting to see the two of them anymore, waved his hand dismissively. "Get out and keep running."

"Come back when you're finished."

The two, who had thought they'd gotten off the hook, looked at him in silence before turning and leaving without a word.

Outside the ward, Shi Feng was puzzled. "Captain Li really is unpredictable."

"You saved Sister Lin, so why is he still making us run?"

Feng He shrugged. "Who knows."

In the end, the two could only resume their run. Thankfully, there wasn't much left, and they finished in an hour.

"Let's rest." Shi Feng stood with one hand on his hip, panting heavily. He looked truly exhausted.

As He Shian passed by the two of them, he paused, his ice-blue eyes sizing them up.

The image of the two of them jumping smoothly from the flatbed flyer flashed through his mind.

The flyer had been moving very fast at the time, yet they had dared to jump off after it had only slowed down a little.

They even knew to use a roll to mitigate the impact from the jump and protect their bodies.

'This Grade D Spiritual Ability User named Shi Feng has keen observational skills. If it weren't for his reminder, who knows what the consequences would have been.'

'This training ground is huge—one lap is two kilometers. Despite their low levels, they managed to persevere and complete the task Captain Li assigned.'

'Their endurance and willpower are also outstanding.'

'They're excellent in all aspects. With the right training, they could definitely become top talent.'

'It's just a pity their Spiritual Power Levels are too low.'

'When facing a mutant beast, they probably couldn't even withstand a single swipe of its claws.'

He Shian felt it was a bit of a shame.

After resting, the pair didn't notice He Shian lingering nearby. Shi Feng rubbed his wrist, his face a mask of misery. "I don't want to write a self-criticism report."

"I hate writing them the most."

Feng He nodded. "Yeah, they're the worst."

But it couldn't be helped. The three of them had indeed caused big trouble today.

"Let's go find some scrap paper," Feng He said, heading toward the hospital.

By relying on sweet-talking and thick skin, the two successfully managed to get paper and a pen.

They squatted by a bench outside the hospital and began to write.

"I'm so hungry..." Feng He said, rubbing her growling stomach.

"We'll get to drink Nutrient Liquid in a bit," Shi Feng comforted her without looking up.

Captain Li, returning with the Nutrient Liquid, saw his subordinates squatting there from a distance, looking like a pair of mushrooms.

Their posture hadn't changed at all from the time he left the hospital until now.

'Squatting for so long, aren't they afraid their legs will go numb?'

He walked closer and tossed their dinner for the day to the two of them. Seeing their eager expressions, Captain Li said, "I'll let you off the hook for today. We'll settle the score tomorrow."

Unauthorized use of a mecha, punching a hole in the wash bay, flying a mecha in a no-fly zone, and stealing someone else's flyer.

Captain Li intended to make them account for every single one of these offenses.

Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to answer to his superiors.
