Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Handsome Reward Makes a Brave Man

"Five… Fifty thousand comments?" The troll farm boss's voice cracked as he shrieked, thinking he must have misread the number.

After running to the accountant to confirm the count was correct, he gasped and had to steady himself.

"How did you do that?" 'Are you a damn reincarnated octopus? Even an octopus couldn't post that many comments in such a short time!'

Of course, Su Yuhan wasn't about to tell him she had secretly used software to cheat. She said mysteriously, "It's nothing, merely a matter of practice."

"..." 'Damn it, am I going to be the first troll farm boss in history to be nearly bankrupted by a temp?!'

'Block her. I have to block her!'

Fortunately, despite his heartache, the troll farm boss had some integrity. He didn't try to haggle or dock Su Yuhan's pay.

After fleecing Qi Lianxiu and then fleecing the troll farm, Su Yuhan had earned 110,000 yuan in a single afternoon.

'Is being an online shill really this profitable nowadays?'

The thought of becoming a professional online shill had barely surfaced in Su Yuhan's mind before she squashed it.

Opportunities like this were rare. After all, it wasn't every day that there was fresh drama in the entertainment industry.

110,000 seemed like a lot, but after paying off the overdue medical bills, she was only left with seventy or eighty thousand.

After setting aside another ten thousand for her grandmother's dialysis and medication for the next month, the rest wasn't even enough to cover the interest she had to pay this month.

Su Yuhan returned to the hospital, paid the bills, and sighed deeply. It had been a long time since she'd experienced this kind of life where her expenses outstripped her income.

But since she had been brought back to life in the original owner's body by a strange twist of fate, she had been given a second chance. Naturally, she had to bear the responsibilities and consequences that came with this body.

When Su Yuhan entered the hospital room carrying dinner, the two people inside were laughing and chatting while eating fruit. Their eyes lit up when they saw her come in.

"Huanhuan, you're back."

"I'm back." Su Yuhan placed the food containers on the table and looked with concern at the old woman in the hospital bed. "Grandma, how are you feeling today? Any better?"

"Much better. Huanhuan, Grandma's fine now. Let's go home. This illness... let's just stop the treatment."

"I just spoke with the doctor. He said you've been recovering well these past few days, so we can be discharged tomorrow morning. But we have to continue the treatment. Don't worry about the money. I can handle it."

"But..."

"No buts. Just focus on getting better. Leave the rest to me."

As she spoke, Su Yuhan turned to look at the girl by the bedside—the only person besides her grandmother who had genuinely cared for the original owner of this body.

"Xiangxiang, thank you. We really owe you for helping take care of Grandma these last two days. I don't know what we would've done without you."

"Hey, what are you being so polite for? We're best friends, aren't we? If it weren't for you and Grandma taking pity on me and giving me a meal back then, who knows where I'd be wandering now. I didn't have much to do this weekend anyway. I just came to chat with Grandma and pass the time."

Su Yuhan and her grandmother didn't say anything more, but they both took this kindness to heart.

While they were eating, Yuan Xiangxiang, out of concern, tentatively asked, "Huanhuan, you said you were going out to find a job today. Did you find one?"

"Not yet." Going out to find a job was actually just an excuse Su Yuhan had used that morning to go see Xia Xuyang and sign the contract. The money she earned in the afternoon was a complete, unexpected windfall.

However, the Sugar Daddies who had signed contracts with her were all incredibly busy men. She probably wouldn't even see them more than a few times a month.

The rest of the time was her own. She could totally use it to find a few other jobs, pay off the debts left by the original owner's deadbeat dad sooner, and save up for Grandma's medical expenses.

"The economy has been in a slump these past couple of years, so it's definitely harder to find a job. Even those of us who are already employed aren't that secure. There's always a risk of being laid off." Yuan Xiangxiang sighed, then seemed to remember something.

"Speaking of which, a friend of mine's company is actually looking to fill a position..."

Su Yuhan's ears immediately perked up. "What kind of job? What's the pay like?"

"Going undercover at a rival company, and then..."

Su Yuhan's brow furrowed slightly. "Steal their trade secrets? Isn't that illegal?"

"No, it's infiltrating the rival company to kill their money tree with boiling water."

"???" 'Seriously? Has the world really gotten this insane?'

High-end business warfare: short-selling stocks, leaking scandals, driving rivals to bankruptcy overnight.

Real-life business warfare: infiltrating the rival company to kill their money tree with boiling water.

'The memes were right all along!'

Perhaps the shock on Su Yuhan's face was too obvious, because Yuan Xiangxiang coughed awkwardly and explained in a low voice.

"According to her boss, ever since the boss of the rival company diagonally across from them bought a money tree and put it by their entrance, that company's performance has been skyrocketing. They even poached several long-term clients from them."

"That's... a coincidence, right?"

"These bosses are all more or less superstitious about this stuff. Anyway, her boss is now convinced that the money tree has siphoned away their company's fortune, and as long as they get rid of it, the luck will come back."

Su Yuhan's expression was complicated. "Why go to all that trouble? Why don't they just get their own money tree to put out front? Then they can see which one of them the God of Wealth really favors."

"How do you know her boss hasn't tried? My friend said her boss is a total plant killer. Everything he tries to grow dies. He can even kill a cactus, let alone a money tree. If he accidentally killed it, that would be even more unlucky."

"..." 'Hiss... That does make things difficult.'

"So, you're saying the rival company's money tree absolutely has to die?"

"Not necessarily. Even though the boss is offering a lot of money, the rival company is said to have some serious backing and is involved in some shady business under the table. It's not worth risking your neck for twenty thousand yuan. That's why no one's dared to take the job yet."

At first, Su Yuhan was just listening for the entertainment value, but when she heard that, she suddenly perked up.

"You said... how much?"

"How much for what?"

"The pay for this official company undercover mission, how much is it?"

"Oh, that. Twenty thousand. It started at five thousand, and a lot of people were interested. But then they found out about the company's background and got worried about getting into trouble, so they all backed out. Now it's up to twenty thousand, and still no takers. My friend and I both think the whole thing is probably going to be dropped. Why do you ask?"

"Oh, nothing. I just think their boss has a point. It's definitely the money tree's fault. Cutting off someone's livelihood is like murdering their parents. To keep their company from going bankrupt, that tree must die!"

Yuan Xiangxiang: "?" 'That's not what you said a minute ago!'

"As the ancients said, a great reward makes a brave man."

"Huh?"

"Do I look like that brave man to you?"

"..."
