Chapter 30 - Fragments of memory

Night had already fallen, filling the place with silence. Lucas stood erect, clutching a cheese sandwich whose aroma filled the air directly in front of the police station. He took a large bite, seemingly deep in thought, before the sound of footsteps behind him pulled him out. A door opened slowly, and a familiar voice spoke: "How did you even get that sandwich?" Emma raised an eyebrow.

Her gaze shifts between Isabella, who is standing anxiously with Jack and Clara, who appear nervous and unfocused at the moment, before returning to Lucas. He is standing calmly, the bloodstains on his shirt already dry , gives her a long look, pointing his finger at a restaurant directly in front of them, a few steps away, and tells her, "from there"__

Before she could finish her question, he interrupted her, saying, "Do you remember when we ate the sumptuous food at Mr. Victor's house?" He moved his hand involuntarily, as if recalling something from two hours ago, to tell her, "I smelled the same smell I smelled that day when we found Mrs. Isla body... the smell of pig's blood emanating from his fridge"

"So? Maybe he likes to cook pork or something!" Emma replies, standing right next to him, looking at her hand wrapped in white gauze, saying, "He helped us...who knows what would have happened to us in this alley." It's as if she's recalling her broken finger amidst whispered laughter. A cold sensation creeps up her neck, and she wipes it with trembling hands.... Spots of blood cover her hand for a cold moment. It seems her ear has bled from the impact of the blow her body suffered, and she's only just noticed it now , barely raises her head before strong arms encircle her...it's her mother, who has come rushing in with a panicked expression, shouting:

"What!! What's JUST HAPPEN !!" She doesn't even have time to process it before her older brother, who is a few years older than her, runs towards her to hug her as well " My GoD!!__" he shouts in her ear..

Lucas watches them with a smile that is not really a smile of comfort, more like a cheerful smile, as if he finds her expression funny. But before he realizes it, her brother grabs him by the shoulders angrily, pushing his sandwich away to the dirty sidewalk , He wants an explanation now:

"Who are you?! What is your relationship with my sister?" the smile disappeared in the same second, or perhaps it evaporated as he watched his sandwich fly away.

Back in the interrogation room, the young girl stands, the dim light that goes back and forth in the room reflecting off her eye , She is not looking at her father, who is standing in a deteriorating state in front of her, shouting, "Answer me!! Who did this to you!" And so, finally, she stops in front of a picture , the policeman leans slowly, his curiosity killing him, to see what it is. It is a picture of Miss Isla's phone, a phone that at first glance looks somewhat old-fashioned, with a distinctive black color, which is clearly visible above the grass next to her dead body...

Slowly, her focus returns to Henry , holds up the picture in front of him and declares, "That day when my mother died in the hospital, you left a room after receiving a call, but—" She leans forward, saying in a calmer voice, "I noticed you took out a phone that looked exactly like this picture. You didn't even care after you broke it on the floor, did you? You were talking to her that day, weren't you? Can you explain how a business relationship could be so important that you would leave my mother lying in bed to answer it" As soon as she finishes speaking, Henry's expression changes in front of her and the policemen who stand frozen behind glass, including her aunt Isabella, who touches the glass impatiently, her breath quickening...the calm expression shatters instantly, revealing tension, shock, and anger. Instead of repeating his question about what happened to her, his question turns sharp: "Are you crazy?! What are you trying to say now?" He slams his palm on the shaking table. His stance has changed in seconds, shocking even the policeman beside her...who slowly raises an eyebrow as he watches the transformation unfold before him. In the blink of an eye, before the policeman can compose himself... a moment of silence.

.

.

Henry's hand reached out and grabbed his daughter's hair with a fierce thud. He had completely lost his temper, his eyes bloodshot as he shouted, "Have you forgotten who you're talking to, you crazy &^*%?" A gasp of surprise escaped everyone, including Clara...the policeman, equally shocked, tried to push him away, yelling, "You idiot! What are you doing?!" He was gripping Elizabeth's hair so tightly it was almost ripped out, but he didn't seem to realize he had just confirmed something that had been nothing more than a suspicion in her mind. She raised her head and whispered coldly, "My mother knew, didn't she? Is this the important thing you were talking to my mother about? Very important ...

Indeed "
