Ethan Grant and Shirley Thorne spent a makeshift night at the police station.
The next day, Officer Warren knocked on the RV door, holding Warren Grant's medical report. He was greeted by the sight of Shirley's prominent dark circles.
"Morning, Officer Warren."
Shirley Thorne gave a little wave, her hand moving like a lucky cat's paw—a stiff, almost programmed gesture that was utterly perfunctory.
"Oh, morning!"
For a moment, Officer Warren forgot about the report and asked with concern, "Didn't sleep well last night?"
Shirley Thorne stood in the doorway with her arms crossed and laughed it off. "It was what it was."
"Are the results back?"
Shirley Thorne clearly didn't want to discuss the previous night, getting straight to the point without missing a beat.
Officer Warren nodded. "They're back."
He stood there, feeling a bit awkward. "Miss Thorne, may I come in?"
"Come in, come in!"
