Chapter 272 - Vrock

Translator: AnubisTL

Where the demons passed, the snow rapidly melted, and the ground rotted into scorched earth reeking of sulfur. The air itself seemed to darken, blurring the boundary between their two worlds.

Ice Wall!

The white dragon reared its head and roared, its dragon's roar casting the spell.

As her wings flapped, walls of ice erupted from the ground, partitioning the demonic horde and leaving only a narrow passage.

Simultaneously, Elvie flapped her wings and soared into the air.

She drew her bow, holy energy coalescing into tangible arrows between the curves of her recurve bow. She fired them toward the heart of the demon cluster.

Whoosh—Boom!

The searing holy energy exploded into a massive sphere of light, engulfing the demons whose attributes were countered and reducing them to ash and dust.

The abyssal aura, which had been spreading and radiating, was purified and evaporated.

The imps and fiends, unable to fly, were trapped behind the ice walls. As Elvie's holy exploding magic arrows rained down, they panicked and surged through the narrow passage, only to be slaughtered by the prepared ogres and centaur warriors waiting on the other side.

The quasits flapped their small wings and darted toward the sky.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Arrows from the centaur sharpshooters rained down like a lethal downpour, precisely striking the quasits that managed to fly over the ice walls. Nearly every arrow found its mark.

White Dragon Treacy set her sights on the quasit elites.

Clang!

The elite demon, far larger and more robust than its kin, reacted swiftly. With a short blade, it deflected the arrow that had whistled through the air.

But in the next instant, a gale descended.

The white dragon's massive form enveloped the quasit elite. Its claws shot out, seizing the demon in a crushing grip that shattered its bones in an instant.

"Abyssal vermin! Fear! Tremble!"

The dragon's laughter boomed with wild abandon.

The humiliation and slaughter of weak demons always brought Treacy a perverse satisfaction, satisfying the primal urge to kill deeply rooted in her evil heart.

The battle quickly turned one-sided.

As time passed, the demons fell one by one.

Soon, thousands of demon corpses littered the ground, their black blood staining the earth. From high above, the scene resembled a stubborn ink stain on a snow-white canvas.

The familiar guards wiped their weapons with the accumulated snow, washing away the demonic blood.

The low-level demons had caused few casualties among the elite guards. However, throughout the battle and their deaths, the demons constantly emanated abyssal energy. Their blood carried a dual corrosive effect, both physically and mentally.

The familiars moved sluggishly, their eyes occasionally flashing with violent intent as they struggled to suppress the surging malice within their hearts.

Elvie let out a soft sigh.

She noticed the unusual state of the other familiars—this wasn't the first time such a situation had occurred.

Continuous battles against demons could easily corrupt warriors, even transforming them into demon-kin who would turn and slaughter their former comrades.

In such cases, the guards would simply withdraw and be replaced by a fresh contingent.

After a period of recovery, the tempered mental will of the guards, having been forged by abyssal energies, would become even more resilient.

But just then...

The now-calm abyssal rift suddenly erupted with a thick, pungent stench.

Two massive, gaunt wings, covered in blade-like black feathers, unfurled abruptly from the rift. In a flash of gray, a grotesque demon, never before seen, materialized amidst the swirling snow.

It stood approximately five meters tall, its hooked beak filled with serrated teeth, its compound eyes burning crimson, and short horns crowning its head.

Its skeletal frame resembled that of a vulture, draped in mottled dark green and gray-black feathers through which pustule-covered skin bled.

A constant stream of sulfur-scented oil oozed from its body, forming a foul, putrid steam as it met the air.

The vrock, also known as the Roc Demon.

Whoosh! With a flap of its wings, the creature vanished without warning, reappearing behind an ogre. Its skeletal, razor-sharp claws pierced the ogre's thick hide from behind, killing the guard in a single strike.

The appearance of this vrock, radiating an exceptionally strong abyssal aura, signaled a shift in the battle.

Many vrocks, standing 2-3 meters tall, surged from the abyssal rift, swarming in all directions. Quasits, imps, and fiends also poured forth in greater numbers, coalescing into a demonic tide.

Moreover, more than one vrock boss emerged. Five of them flew out of the abyssal rift in succession.

This time, the demons came with overwhelming force.

The vrocks' arrival turned the tide of battle.

White Dragon Treacy and Centaur Elvie's gazes swept over the vrock bosses—their lightning-fast speed and teleportation abilities—and their hearts grew heavy with apprehension.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Three vrock bosses targeted White Dragon Treacy, circling her at high speed, leaving trails of afterimages in their wake.

Multiple Attacks!

Tear!

The vrock boss's attacks landed on the white dragon. The first strike shattered its ice armor, while the second ripped through its dragon scales, leaving behind a gushing, bloody wound.

The white dragon roared in retaliation.

But the demons were no weaklings. At the same level, they were far stronger than most creatures. The three vrock bosses attacked simultaneously, repeatedly using teleportation, stinking clouds, fearful screeches, and other skills to put the white dragon on the defensive.

Meanwhile, two other vrock bosses had set their sights on Elvie.

Her pegasus bloodline, making her a holy and noble hybrid centaur, filled them with both fear and an irresistible urge to ravage and slaughter her.

Whoosh!

The arrow shot by Elvie was dodged by the vrock as it twisted its body in mid-air.

Another vrock boss swooped down from the side, rapidly closing the distance. Elvie drew her greatsword, infused it with magic energy, and swung it with all her might. The blow sent the vrock flying, scattering demonic blood across the ground.

But before she could pursue, a foul wind suddenly swept at her back.

Another vrock boss teleported behind Elvie. She dodged hastily, but the vrock's sharp claws still raked across her body, sending waves of stinging pain through her. The wounds tore open, exuding a foul, putrid stench, and bled profusely, just like the white dragon's.

One-on-one, she wouldn't fear a vrock boss.

But now, facing multiple enemies—and high-speed ones at that—the battle had become perilous.

"Sweet flesh, delicious souls."

"I can't wait to feast."

Licking the fresh blood from their claws, the vrocks let out hoarse, cruel screeches and charged again.

"Insects, you think you've gained the upper hand? Prepare to die."

Despite the sudden disadvantage, Treacy remained calm.

She smiled coldly and decisively crushed the emergency message stone hidden beneath her scales.

In her mind, even though these demon bosses now seemed dominant and were humiliating her, the situation would inevitably turn once stronger reinforcements arrived. She wouldn't let temporary shame fuel her anger.

This would be the perfect validation of the "Dynamic Niche Theory" she had recently comprehended.
