…but because he genuinely loved the mid-series Real World arc in 02.
Sure, that stretch had its "abstract" legendary moments—like Paildramon getting bodied by Triceramon, or Imperialdramon's win rate dropping into negative numbers—but it also had something he still adored to this day:
The Chosen Children scattered across the globe, fighting side by side with DigiDestined from other countries, solving crises together.
In other words—
Children all over the world had a chance to be chosen.
And everyone could ignore language, race, and borders, living together and striving for the same cause.
How could a world like that not be romantic?
And because he longed for that kind of world, Akira loved BlackWarGreymon even more—
a Digimon born from darkness, yet not driven mad by it; a warrior who found his own way of living, and protected the world in his own way.
No exaggeration: Akira had always thought BlackWarGreymon was cool as hell.
A real man.
But even if he loved BlackWarGreymon, Akira wasn't going to let the 02 villains—starting with Yukio Oikawa—run wild just to "make him happen."
If anything, thanks to Akira's interference, the BlackWarGreymon who should've existed in 02's timeline had already lost the possibility of being born.

Still—if he had the option to pick a dark Digimon as his proxy…

If you mean a powerful Mega in the conventional sense, that level of power is insufficient.
The dark power there contains too many impurities. At most, it can produce a powerful Dark MetalGreymon.
"This world's combat downgrade is insane," Akira complained. "No wonder Battleshipdramon is considered the strongest wild Digimon—these 'Megas' are watered down as hell!"
Correction: Negamon replied. Battleshipdramon's strength exceeds typical Perfect-level Digimon, but it is a Champion-level Digimon.
"…Then never mind." Akira laughed in surrender. "In a Digital World where Battleshipdramon can be the strongest 'wild' Digimon, it's pretty reasonable that the dark power can only mold a powerful Perfect."

"Who the hell wants that kind of 'strongest'?" Akira snapped. "An adult beating up kindergarteners doesn't make you cool—it makes you embarrassing!"
"At minimum, give him the dignity of a strong warrior—power that matches that dignity. A front-line Mega-level strength, so he won't disgrace the Greymon lineage!"
In fact, standard WarGreymon is only third-tier among Megas. The first-tier Greymon-line Megas would be ShineGreymon, VictoryGreymon, Gaioumon—
"Stop." Akira pinched the bridge of his nose. "Don't you dare start lecturing me on 'elite Greymon family members.' Just do what I said—make me a Black Greymon who's thirsty for a good fight!"

In an instant, vast dark power poured out from the Angel Zone. Guided by Negamon's tentacles, it flowed in thin streams into the black Digivice.
Inside the device's screen, the gathered darkness compressed, warped, and reshaped—gradually taking on the form Akira had been waiting for.

Seeing the data stabilize, Akira raised the black Digivice high and commanded:
"Data Generation: BlackWarGreymon!"
The moment his words fell, a surging darkness erupted from the screen, gathering into a solid shape.
It was a warrior.
A dragon warrior clad in jet-black armor—razor claws, sharpened fangs, his entire body radiating battle intent—yet in his golden eyes there was no bloodlust.
The black dragon warrior stepped up to Akira. Looking at the boy's still-young face, he showed not the slightest trace of contempt.

"You… are my creator?"
Akira was satisfied by the blunt question.
To be precise: after years of workplace suffering, Akira preferred speaking with straightforward people.
And that personality was exactly what he'd designed into BlackWarGreymon.
"You were born from this world's dark power," Akira said with a smile. "But yes—your form and will were designed by me."
"…," BlackWarGreymon paused, then asked in a low voice, "Why did you design my will?"
"Because I genuinely don't want to control you," Akira replied, still smiling. "Surprised?"
"Yes." BlackWarGreymon nodded seriously. "You created me. You should have something you need me to accomplish."
"And that doesn't mean you have to become an extension of my will," Akira said. "I hate feudal patriarchs who treat children like tools. I have no intention of becoming that."

BlackWarGreymon stared hard into Akira's eyes, trying to find the lie.
Akira wasn't surprised. He met the gaze openly, accepting the suspicion.
He'd never claimed to be a saint.
But he could at least be honest.
Especially in front of a Digimon he genuinely liked.
A second passed.
Or perhaps a day.
Under that long stare, the black dragon warrior finally believed that his creator wasn't lying.
"I believe you did not deceive me." BlackWarGreymon lowered his head. "I am not good with words. But… I apologize for doubting you."
"It's fine." Akira nodded. "Trust that hasn't been tested by doubt is just blind obedience."
Just as BlackWarGreymon said, he truly was a warrior who didn't waste words.
"I despise vile acts, and I despise bullying the weak," he said bluntly. "Anything outside of those… I can accept."
"I don't like that kind of tasteless work either," Akira agreed.
"The territory beneath your feet is a foothold I built with everyone—piece by piece." Akira spoke plainly. "In a while, I'll be leaving this world. I need someone to protect it for me."
"I only like challenging the strong. I do not like managing the weak," BlackWarGreymon answered directly. "Your request is beyond my abilities."
"No problem." Akira smiled. "Internal affairs will be handled by Spadamon and Wisemon. All you need to do is challenge the strong when war comes—make sure no one can bully the weak."
Then Akira's smile faded, and he confirmed with quiet seriousness:
"That isn't hard for you, right?"
"Not hard." BlackWarGreymon nodded. "To challenge the strong is the meaning of my existence."
And just like that—
The lord of the Wild Hunt and his proxy completed the handover in only a few sentences.
What Akira needed to do next was simple.
"Negamon," he asked his partner Digimon, "if I go home now, what time will it be?"
1999, August 1st, 01:00 A.M.
"Perfect!" Akira grinned. "Then I'll sleep first and recover my energy… and after that, let's go home for the real Adventure!"
Yes.
Akira still wanted to become one of the Chosen Children.
