Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: Lv.30 Advancement & The Trial of Strength

[Divine Descent System - Godslayer]

Host: Kael Voss | In-Game ID: Zhu ShenPartner: Gareth | In-Game ID: ShadowCompanion: Lila Elias | In-Game ID: LunaAlly: Yun Feng | In-Game ID: PhantomLocation: Crescent Glade Guild Territory → Ancient Shura Sanctum (Trial Grounds)Current Level: Zhu Shen Lv.30 | Shadow Lv.29 | Luna Lv.27 | Phantom Lv.30Core Objective: Trigger Shura Class Advancement Quest → Complete first Shura Trial → Unlock advanced class perks → Investigate void corruption spread

The portal's blue light faded as the team stepped back into Crescent Glade, and the guild's central square erupted in cheers the moment Kael's level tag—Lv.30—came into view. Recruits and officers alike paused their work, forging hammers still in hand, alchemists stepping out of the lab, all raising their voices in celebration. Word of the Glacial Canyon grind had spread through the guild overnight; everyone knew what Lv.30 meant for their leader: the long-awaited Shura class advancement, the power of the Twin Relics fully unlocked, and the guild's strength climbing to new heights.

Yun Feng clapped Kael on the back, grinning. "Lv.30! Finally. The whole server's gonna lose their minds when they see you've hit the level cap for the mid-game already. Most players are still stuck at Lv.22 in the main city."

Gareth nodded, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "The elite team's already prepping the forges. The Glacial Cores we collected are enough to roll out Gold-grade gear prototypes for the core members by the end of the week."

Lila squeezed Kael's hand, her eyes bright. "I made special potions for your trials! [Shura's Focus Elixirs]—they boost your mana regen by 50% and reduce skill cooldowns by 10% for an hour. And extra Stardust Barrier scrolls, just in case."

Kael's cold expression softened, squeezing her hand back. "You didn't overdo it? The doctors said you need to rest."

"I only logged in for an hour to make them!" she protested, grinning. "I'm resting in the hospital bed the whole time. This is just light work. And I want you to be safe in the trials."

He didn't argue. Instead, he turned to the gathered guild members, raising his voice just enough to cut through the chatter. "Thank you all for the hard work in the territory while we were gone. The guild vault will be updated with the Glacial Cores and materials we collected—craftsmen have priority access for gear upgrades. For the next 48 hours, all active members get a 20% discount on guild facilities."

Another cheer went up. Kael didn't linger on the celebration, though. His mind was fixed on two things: the Shura advancement trials, and the void-corrupted shard burning a hole in his inventory. He pulled Yun Feng aside as the crowd dispersed, handing over the purple shard.

"I need you to find everything you can about this," he said, his voice low. "The void corruption wasn't just in the Abyssal Depths. It's seeped into the Frost Realm, and if it's there, it's probably in other zones too. Check the Mage Guild archives, talk to the Duskfall City scholars—anything. I need to know where it's coming from, and how to stop it from spreading."

Yun Feng's grin faded, his fingers closing around the shard. The void energy pulsed faintly, making his skin crawl. "Got it. I'll pull every string I have. The game devs have been radio silent about the void stuff, but the old tomes from the Ancient Realm archives might have something. I'll also send scout teams to every mid-game zone—check for corrupted monsters, report any unusual activity."

"Good," Kael said. "Gareth, I need you to tighten up the territory defenses. Double the guard rotations at the Frost Realm outposts and the Emberwood border. If the void corruption spreads to Duskfall City, we need to be ready to lock the territory down."

"Already done," Gareth said. "Elite squads are heading out to the zone borders as we speak. The recruits are running combat drills for corrupted monster encounters—we're prepping for anything."

With the guild's logistics handled, Kael turned to the guild hall's private chambers. Lila followed him, carrying a small pouch of potions and scrolls. "You're going to start the trials now?" she asked, setting the pouch on the table.

"First thing," he said, nodding. The Shura's Novice Emblem had been pulsing nonstop since he hit Lv.30, thrumming in time with the Frostheart Relic in his inventory. The system had been dropping faint hints about the advancement quest for levels, and now it was finally within reach. "The sooner I complete the trials, the sooner I unlock the full Shura class. With the void threat growing, we need all the power we can get."

Lila nodded, pushing the pouch toward him. "Take all the potions. And if the trial is too hard, don't push yourself. You can come back and rest, try again later."

"I will," he promised, leaning down to kiss the top of her head. "Stay in the safety zone while I'm gone. Let me know if you need anything, even if it's just to log out and rest."

"I will," she said, smiling. "Good luck. I know you'll beat it."

After Lila left, Kael closed the chamber door. He pulled out the Shura's Novice Emblem, the black medallion blazing with blue and red light—resonating with the Frostheart Relic he kept on his person. The second his fingers closed around both, a sharp system notification blared in his ears:

[System Notification]

Death in the trial grounds will result in a 2-level drop and temporary loss of Shura class skills for 24 hours.

Kael's jaw tightened. A 2-level drop penalty was steep, but he didn't hesitate. He'd never backed down from a fight, not when Lila's life was on the line, not when the world was facing a void incursion. He selected "Enter Trial Grounds" without a second thought.

The world around him dissolved into a swirl of black and blue light. When his vision cleared, he stood in a massive, circular arena carved from black stone. The walls were lined with ancient runes, glowing with the same energy as the Shura's Emblem. The air was still, heavy with the weight of ancient power, and the only sound was the faint crackle of energy in the air.

At the center of the arena, a figure materialized out of the darkness. It was a perfect mirror of Kael—same black armor, same glowing dagger, same cold, sharp eyes. But its body was wreathed in black and blue Shura energy, its level tag glowing bright red: [Shura's Wraith] Lv.35.

[System Notification]

Ding! You have entered the Trial of Strength!Trial Objective: Defeat the Shura's Wraith, the living manifestation of the Shura class's raw power. The wraith mirrors all your active skills, passive effects, and relic bonuses.Trial Rule: No outside items, consumables, or assistance allowed. This is a solo test of your combat mastery.Victory Condition: Defeat the Shura's Wraith within 10 minutes.Failure Condition: Death, or time expiration.

Kael's eyes narrowed. A mirror of himself, 5 levels higher, with all his skills and the power of the Twin Relics. This wasn't just a test of strength—it was a test of his skill, his ability to outthink and outfight the very best version of his own power.

He drew his Glacial Shard Dagger, the blade blazing with frost energy. The Shura's Wraith mirrored his movement, drawing an identical dagger, its eyes locking onto Kael's.

The fight began before the system notification even faded. The wraith lunged forward, activating [Backstab] in the same breath Kael did. Their daggers clashed mid-air, the impact sending a shockwave rippling across the stone floor.

180 DMG! (Blocked)180 DMG! (Blocked)

They sprang apart, circling each other. Kael feinted left, then darted right, activating [Heavy Strike]. The wraith blocked again, countering with a [Charge Strike] that Kael barely dodged, the blade grazing his armor.

220 DMG! (Near-Miss Grazing Damage)Kael's HP: 400/620

The wraith was fast—faster than any enemy he'd faced before. It knew every move he was going to make, every trick he'd learned in the novice village, the Frost Realm, the Abyssal Depths. Copying his skills was one thing; copying his combat instinct was another.

Kael didn't panic. He'd spent his whole life fighting uphill battles, outthinking opponents stronger than him. He changed his rhythm, abandoning the aggressive, high-damage strikes he'd relied on for so long. He used small, quick jabs, feints, dodges, forcing the wraith to react to him, rather than the other way around.

The wraith lunged, activating [Frost Slaughter]—the signature skill from the Frostheart Relic. Kael didn't block or dodge. He activated [Light-Dark Harmony] at the exact same moment, the twin relics' energy surging through his dagger.

The two attacks collided. Frost and dark energy exploded between them, sending Kael flying back. He hit the stone wall, his HP dropping to 250/620. But the wraith fared worse—Kael had timed the strike to hit the wraith's blade at the apex of its swing, throwing off its balance. The wraith staggered, its HP dropping to 3,200/4,000.

Kael grinned. The wraith could copy his skills, but it couldn't copy the years of real-world combat experience he'd earned fighting to keep Lila alive. It couldn't copy the split-second decisions, the willingness to take a hit to land a better one.

He pushed off the wall, charging again. This time, he didn't hold back. He activated [Frost Slaughter], but feinted at the last second, spinning around the wraith's side and stabbing at its unarmored flank. The wraith tried to mirror the move, but it was too late—Kael's dagger sank into its side.

580 DMG! (Critical Strike + Weak Point Hit)Shura's Wraith's HP: 2,620/4,000

The wraith roared, spinning around and slashing with its dagger. It activated [Light-Dark Harmony], the same red-and-blue energy blazing around its blade. Kael rolled aside, the attack slamming into the wall where he'd stood a split second before. The stone exploded, shrapnel flying through the air.

For 5 minutes, they danced across the arena. Strike after strike, block after block. The wraith copied every skill Kael used, but it could never match his timing, his instinct, his willingness to adapt. Kael took hits, his HP dropping as low as 120 at one point, but he never let up. He knew the wraith's weakness: it was a mirror, nothing more. It could only react to him. It couldn't lead.

With 2 minutes left on the clock, Kael saw his opening. The wraith lunged, activating [Backstab], trying to circle behind him. Kael didn't turn. He channeled all his mana into the Twin Relics, activating both [Frost Slaughter] and the Dark Relic's passive damage boost at the same time. He spun on his heel, driving the dagger straight into the wraith's chest—exactly where the Shura's core would be.

1,250 DMG! (Critical Strike + Dual Relic Bonus + Weak Point Breakthrough)Shura's Wraith's HP: 800/4,000

The wraith staggered, its form flickering. It roared, swinging wildly, but Kael was already moving. He leaped over the strike, landing on the wraith's back, and drove the dagger into the back of its neck.

920 DMG! (Critical Strike + Backstab Bonus)Shura's Wraith's HP: 0/4,000

The wraith froze, then dissolved into a cloud of black and blue energy. The energy didn't vanish, though—it swirled toward Kael, sinking into his chest. A flood of power washed over him, his bones thrumming with the ancient Shura energy.

[System Notification]

Ding! Congratulations! You have completed the Trial of Strength!Time Remaining: 1 minute 42 secondsReward: Base Strength +10, Base Agility +5, Shura Skill Proficiency +100, 10,000 EXP.Ding! Trial 2: Trial of Will is now unlocked!Ding! You have unlocked advanced Shura skill [Shura's Intimidation]: Passive. All enemies within 10m have their Defense reduced by 20%, and have a 10% chance to flinch when struck by your attacks.

Kael collapsed to one knee, breathing heavily. His HP was down to 180, his mana nearly empty, but he was grinning. The first trial was done. He was one step closer to the full Prime Shura class.

The arena around him began to fade, the black stone dissolving into light. A new notification popped up as he was transported back to the guild hall:

[System Notification]

Warning: Void energy detected within the Shura Sanctum trial grounds. Ancient barrier integrity at 85%.The Trial of Will will expose you to the Shura's darkest memories and your greatest fears. Proceed with caution.

Kael's jaw tightened. Void energy, even in the ancient Shura trial grounds? That wasn't a good sign. The corruption was spreading further than he'd thought, seeping into even the most hidden, protected corners of the game.

He stood up as the teleportation finished, back in the guild hall's private chamber. The door opened a second later, and Lila poked her head in, her eyes wide. "You're back! Did you beat the trial?"

Kael smiled, walking over to her. "I did. First trial down, two to go."

She threw her arms around him, careful not to squeeze too hard. "I knew you could do it! Did you get hurt? I have healing potions ready."

"I'm fine," he said, hugging her back. "Just tired. The trial was a mirror of myself. It knew every move I made."

She pulled back, frowning. "Are you going to do the next trial right away?"

"No," he said, shaking his head. "I need to rest, replenish my mana. And I need to check in with Yun Feng and Gareth, see what they found out about the void shard. The corruption is even in the Shura trial grounds now. It's worse than we thought."

Lila's expression softened. "Then rest first. The trials can wait an hour. I'll bring you something to drink, and you can log out for a bit to stretch your legs. The doctors said you shouldn't sit in the chair for too long, anyway."

Kael laughed, nodding. She was always looking out for him, even when she was the one recovering from major surgery. "Okay. An hour. Then we'll see what the void is up to."

As Lila left to grab the potions, Kael pulled up his communicator. He had a message from Yun Feng, sent 10 minutes prior:We found something. The void corruption isn't just in the Frost Realm. It's in the Emberwood Deep Zone, the Sunken Marsh, even the outskirts of Duskfall City. The corrupted monsters are getting stronger, too. And the old tomes say the void incursion 1,000 years ago is what wiped out the Ancient Shura civilization. This isn't just a few random monsters. It's a full invasion.

Kael's grip on the communicator tightened. The Ancient Shura were wiped out by the void? That changed everything. The trials weren't just a class advancement—they were the legacy of a civilization that had fought this exact threat before, and lost.

He closed the message, taking a deep breath. The second trial would have to wait. First, he needed to know exactly what they were up against. The void wasn't just a threat to the game world. If the in-game power could sync to the real world, what would stop the void corruption from doing the same?

He wouldn't let that happen. Not on his watch. He'd beaten the Shura's Wraith, he'd beaten Eve, he'd beaten the Abyssal Lord. Whatever the void threw at him, he'd beat that too.

For Lila. For the guild. For both worlds.
