Chapter 5 - The Clock That Gave Extra Time

In a small and peaceful town, there lived a 14-year-old boy named Ryan.

Ryan was a kind and hardworking boy. He was known in his neighborhood for his polite nature and helpful heart. He lived with his mother and his younger sister, Emma.

His mother worked in a bakery from early morning till late evening. She worked very hard to support the family. Ryan always admired her strength.

Every morning, Ryan helped his sister get ready for school. He packed his own bag, helped Emma with her shoes, and sometimes even prepared breakfast when his mother was too tired.

Even though he was young, Ryan was responsible.

He had one big dream.

He wanted to become a scientist one day.

Ryan loved books, machines, experiments, and learning new things. He was always curious about how things worked.

But there was one problem.

Ryan always felt that there was never enough time.

School work, home chores, helping his sister, and studying for his dream—it all felt too much.

At night, when he sat by the window looking at the stars, he often whispered to himself,

"I wish there were more hours in a day."

One day, after school, dark clouds filled the sky.

A cool wind started blowing through the market street as Ryan walked home.

Suddenly, something shiny in the window of an old shop caught his eye.

He stopped.

Inside the dusty glass window was a beautiful golden clock.

It was small, round, and old-looking, with lovely carvings around its edges. The clock looked special.

For some reason, Ryan felt drawn toward it.

He slowly pushed open the old wooden door.

A small bell rang.

Inside, the shop was quiet and filled with old objects—books, mirrors, lamps, and clocks.

Behind the counter sat an old man with a long white beard and calm eyes.

"You like the clock?" the old man asked with a gentle smile.

Ryan nodded.

"Yes, sir. It looks beautiful."

The old man looked at him carefully.

"It is more than beautiful," he said softly. "It is special."

Ryan stepped closer.

"How much does it cost?"

The old man stayed silent for a moment.

Then he smiled.

"For you, it is free."

Ryan was shocked.

"Free? But why?"

The old man leaned slightly forward.

"Because I believe you need it."

Ryan looked confused but thankful.

"Thank you, sir."

As he handed over the clock, the old man said in a mysterious voice,

"Use it carefully. It gives time, but it also teaches."

Ryan didn't fully understand what he meant, but he smiled and walked home.

That night, Ryan sat at his desk, surrounded by books and homework.

He looked at the clock.

It was already 10 PM.

He still had science homework left and a test to prepare for.

He sighed deeply.

"I really wish I had more time."

Suddenly—

The clock began to glow.

Ryan quickly stood up.

Its golden surface shone brightly, and the hands started spinning faster.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Then suddenly—

Everything stopped.

The fan froze.

The curtains stopped moving.

Even the sound of traffic outside disappeared.

Ryan stared in disbelief.

"What… what just happened?"

Slowly, he stood up and looked around.

The whole world had paused.

Only he was moving.

He looked at the clock again.

Words slowly appeared on its glass.

One extra hour. Use it wisely.

Ryan's eyes widened.

"This is magic…"

He quickly sat down and finished all his homework.

Then he revised for his science test.

He even helped organize his school notes.

Exactly one hour later—

Tick.

Everything started moving again.

The fan spun.

The outside sounds returned.

The room was normal again.

Ryan smiled in amazement.

The clock had truly given him extra time.

For the next few days, Ryan used the clock every night.

Whenever he needed more time, the clock glowed and gave him one extra hour.

His life started changing.

He completed his homework on time.

He helped Emma with her studies.

He read science books.

He even started working on small experiments.

At school, his marks improved.

His teachers praised him.

"Well done, Ryan," his science teacher said.

At home, his mother smiled more often.

"You seem less stressed these days," she said.

Ryan simply smiled.

He kept the clock's secret to himself.

But slowly, something changed.

Ryan started depending too much on the magical clock.

Instead of using his day properly, he began wasting time.

He played games longer.

He delayed homework.

He thought,

"It's okay. I always have one extra hour."

Days passed like this.

Then one night, Ryan sat at his desk and waited.

"Come on," he whispered to the clock.

But this time—

It did not glow.

Ryan frowned.

He tapped it lightly.

Nothing.

Then words slowly appeared.

Magic helps. It does not replace discipline.

Ryan stared at the message.

His heart sank.

The meaning was clear.

The clock had not been given to make him lazy.

It was meant to teach him the value of time.

The next day, Ryan went back to the old shop.

But when he reached the market—

The shop was gone.

In its place stood an empty building.

Ryan froze.

He looked around in confusion.

An old shopkeeper nearby noticed him.

"Looking for something?" the man asked.

"Yes… the antique shop."

The man looked surprised.

"That shop closed many years ago."

Ryan's heart skipped.

"What?"

"There hasn't been any shop there for years."

Ryan looked down at the clock in his hand.

It was still ticking.

Still real.

A strange chill passed through him.

Who was the old man?

And how had he gotten the clock?

That night, Ryan sat quietly by the window.

He understood the lesson.

The magic was never meant to replace effort.

It was meant to guide him.

From the next day, Ryan changed himself.

He made a proper schedule.

He studied on time.

Helped his mother.

Played with Emma.

And slept on time.

Slowly, he no longer needed the extra hour.

One evening, the clock glowed one last time.

Words appeared again.

You have learned the lesson.

Time was always enough.

You only had to respect it.

The glow faded.

The clock became an ordinary clock again.

Ryan smiled.

He was not sad.

Because now he understood something important.

The real magic was never the extra hour.

The real magic was learning how to use the time he already had.

Years later, Ryan became a scientist.

On his desk, there was always one old golden clock.

A reminder that time is precious.

And that discipline can turn dreams into reality.
