Chapter 24 - First Assault

"I'll destroy them! Those damn humans and their filthy weapons! I'll make sure they're eradicated!" Jytenreu roared, her voice echoing throughout the dense forest as she swung her thick tail, knocking down several trees with the force of her anger. The vegetation fell like toothpicks, splintering and crashing to the ground.

"Jytenreu, please, you need to calm down," Avenonia pleaded, her tone urgent yet soothing. She stepped cautiously closer, trying to convey her concern.

"They took him! THEY TOOK HIM!" Jytenreu's eyes blazed with a crimson glow, reflecting her fury and desperation. The air around her crackled with energy, sensing the volatile emotions brewing within.

"I understand your anger, truly I do," Avenonia responded, her voice steady and measured. "But letting rage consume you won't help us find him. We need to be rational about our next steps." She reached out a hand, hoping to ground her friend with her presence.

"Rational? I am perfectly rational!" Jytenreu snapped back, her voice laced with frustration. "I'm going to burn them all to the ground! Every city, everything they hold dear!" The grip of her tail's jaws tightened around a nearby log, almost as if it were a weapon ready to be unleashed.

"We need to find him first, and we must do it carefully," Avenonia insisted, her expression growing more serious. "You've seen how the humans react when they sense our presence. They are clever and resourceful, and they'll do everything in their power to stop us. If they succeed, we risk losing everything."

In a fit of rage, Jytenreu opened the maw on her tail, unleashing a powerful burst of red energy that obliterated several trees, leaving smoldering stumps in its wake. Smoke and ash began to fill the air around them.

"Enough of this!" Jytenreu yelled, her temper flaring like a wildfire. "No more games!" With a powerful leap, she soared away, heading directly for the Empire's border, her determination unyielding.

"Jytenreu! Where are you going?! Please stop! We need to talk about this!" Avenonia called out, her voice strained as she raced after her friend, desperation spurring her on.

But Jytenreu's mind was set; she flew at breakneck speed through the thick trees, ignoring Avenonia's calls. Winds whipped past her as she hurtled forward, driven by an overwhelming need to reach her destination.

Avenonia struggled to keep pace, her heart racing. Soon, she found herself completely outmatched and left behind. "Damnit!" she exclaimed, frustration boiling over.

In the distance, a red streak carved through the sky as Jytenreu approached the Empire's stronghold, the very heart of their enemies. "I'm not losing you again. Never," she vowed to herself, her resolve burning brighter than ever as she prepared for the imminent confrontation.

"Warning: High-density resonance signal detected," echoed the voice of the air defense drones throughout the command center. "Estimated time of contact: one hour."

As the alarms blared insistently across the city, a sense of urgency filled the air. Soldiers dashed to their designated stations, each one fully aware of the gravity of the situation.

"Emergency Announcement: A critical resonance event is imminent. All civilians are to evacuate to the nearest disaster shelter immediately, while all military personnel are ordered to report to their posts. This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill."

The skies transformed into a flurry of activity, filled with aircraft and artillery racing to take off from their respective bases. Along the city's fortifications, towering defensive cannons emerged from their fortified bunkers, groaning as they readied themselves for the impending threat.

"This is Commander Yuren Gotsutoa of the 701st Battalion, reporting for duty," Yuren announced as he strode into the command center, his demeanor resolute despite the chaos around him.

"Take a seat," barked a staff sergeant with authority, and Yuren complied, knowing that every second counted.

The tension in the room was palpable, thick enough to cut through the air as everyone's eyes were glued to the large digital displays. The atmosphere was charged with anxiety as information streamed in, revealing the grim reality ahead.

"An unprecedented event has unfolded: a Tyrant-class Meteorn is on a direct course toward the city. It's approaching at an alarming speed and has already obliterated several lines of defense in its path," a major informed the gathered ranks, a look of concern etched on his face.

"It will make contact with the northern district within the hour. Its speed exceeds our prior estimations, and the city is now under direct attack," added a lieutenant major, his voice grave. "Let's review the intelligence we have on this Meteorn; it has been officially declassified, effective immediately."

The display shifted, showcasing images of Jytenreu, the ominous Meteorn, alongside its detailed statistics.

"Humanoid Meteorn, classified as Tyrant class. Codename: Nidhogg, also known as the dragon-like Meteorn. This creature is not only highly aggressive but is also regarded as one of the most dangerous entities known to mankind. It possesses the terrifying ability to emit a stream of high-density, high-heat energy from the mouth located at the end of its long, serpentine tail. This makes it an extraordinarily powerful weapon, capable of reducing sturdy buildings to rubble and melting through the toughest armored vehicles.

"Moreover, it is equipped with the capability to generate a resonance field, allowing it to fly at incredible velocities. It can unleash this field as a shockwave, which has the potential to disable electronic systems, rendering defenses ineffective and causing chaos among our ranks."

Silence enveloped the room as the gravity of the situation sank in, each person fully aware of the implications of this unprecedented threat.

"This Meteorn has already decimated three military outposts, disrupted numerous communication relays, and annihilated countless aerial units in its rampage. It is responsible for the loss of hundreds of lives and the destruction of millions in military assets. To be perfectly frank, we do not possess the resources or firepower to defeat this creature outright. However, we must do everything within our capabilities to drive it off and protect our city from its wrath."

"How?" Someone questioned.

"We will use every stationary weapon we have at our disposal. The Northern district will be partitioned off and the surrounding areas evacuated. Our goal is to contain the damage to that area and prevent it from reaching the city's interior. We have to buy time for the Kingdom's forces to arrive and aid us."

"Why aren't we sending everything we have against it?!" A commander shouted. "We can't just cut off the northern district and hope the cannon placements will keep it busy. We need to send a counterattack, right now."

"Calm down, we are strategizing how our forces will engage Nidhogg." The vice admiral argued. "The most important thing is to minimize damage and casualties. We need to keep the civilians safe and the city protected. We have the upper hand in range and total firepower. If we can contain it, we can keep it at bay until reinforcements arrive."

"The 701st, 172nd, 35th, will remain on standby here in the central district. The 113th will deploy to the north. The 442nd will take over air support. The 131st and 332nd will deploy to the western district. The 243rd and 384th will deploy to the eastern district. All other units will remain on standby, the 14th and 254th will assist with evacuations. Everyone clear?"

The room responded with a collective "Sir, Yes, Sir."

"Good. Get moving people! We've got a lot of work to do."

The atmosphere was tense as soldiers rushed to their stations, preparing for battle.

A large-screen monitor displayed the situation in the northern district, the city's defense cannons firing nonstop at the approaching Meteorn.

Jytenreu weaved through the barrage of projectiles as she approached the city, her tail sweeping down any aircraft that came her way. The sound of cannons echoed throughout the sky, and explosions filled the air as the projectiles hit their mark.

But the Tyrant-class was undeterred, its thick exoskeleton shielding it from the onslaught. As the Meteorn got closer, the cannons fired a more powerful payload. The explosions were deafening, and the force from the blasts knocked down the surrounding trees.

Jytenreu continued to charge ahead, its speed and agility making it hard for the defense cannons to track.

"Hah! These pathetic attacks won't stop me!" She boasted, releasing a shockwave of energy from her maw.

The energy blast cut through the defenses, destroying the cannons in its path and blowing a hole through the city's outer wall. Jytenreu fired again, blasting another section of the wall. The ground shook as debris flew into the air.

The sky was filled with smoke and dust, and the sound of explosions echoed in the distance. The Meteorn charged through the final section of the outer wall, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake. She stood in an intersection, the streets empty, her eyes scanning the surrounding area.

A turret raised itself from a building's roof, aiming at her.

"Hah! Is that the best you got?" She taunted, releasing a burst of energy from her maw, obliterating the entire building.

Several androids took cover in a nearby alleyway, their rifles trained on the Meteorn. They opened fire, the bullets ricocheting off the creature's tough armor. She laughed, "Foolish machines! You think your pathetic weapons can hurt me?"

Her tail swung around, knocking over a parked car and sending it flying into the alley. The androids scattered as the vehicle crashed into the wall behind them.

She clamped one of them in the maw of her tail, crushing the android with her powerful jaws. "Worthless..."

Another android charged her, its blade drawn. She swept it aside with a swing of her arm, slamming the android against a wall. "Where is he?!" She picked up the damaged android and threw it at the remaining ones, sending them crashing into the side of a building.

The sound of an aircraft engine caused her to look up. Fighter jets streaked through the air, firing a barrage of missiles. The Meteorn released a charge of energy from her maw, the beam hitting the Central tower in the distance, cutting a large section off the structure.

The missiles exploded around her, the explosions rocking the street. Jytenreu didn't flinch, glaring at the sky as another wave of fighter jets approached.

"Insects." She growled, charging forward, destroying several buildings in her path.

She fired another burst of energy from her tail, destroying several aircraft and blowing a hole in the wall that surrounded the next block. As she stepped into the northern district, the sound of an engine caught her attention.

A black aircraft was hovering in the sky, its cannons pointing directly at her.

"A new opponent, huh?"

The ship fired, the rounds impacting her exoskeleton, knocking her off balance. She recovered quickly, her maw charging a blast. The ship unleashed another salvo, the bullets tearing into her armor.

"You think that can stop me?!" She sneered, unleashing her energy blast.

The ship dodged, the energy beam tearing a hole in the building behind it. She fired again, the energy beam barely missing the ship as it weaved through the air. The two clashed, exchanging rounds, the sound of their attacks echoing throughout the district.

Jytenreu unleashed her shockwave, the energy waves hitting the ship's shields. The aircraft shook violently, its hull straining against the onslaught. She launched for it, her claws tearing through the missiles. The aircraft's cannons fired, the rounds impacting her armor.

She grabbed onto the ship, the engines struggling to maintain altitude, tearing into the ship's hull with her tail, ripping through the metal like paper. The aircraft plummeted towards the ground, crashing into the street below. She watched as the wreckage burned, smoke billowing into the air. "Is that the best toy you got?!"

A loud crash sounded out from behind her, the building collapsing as her shockwave hit. Jytenreu turned around, the sight before her taking her by surprise.

"Target Identified. XRVS01 Engaging." Naiola had made her appearance.

"That hell is this?"

Naiola fired a beam of energy at the Meteorn, the blast sending Jytenreu flying back. The Meteorn regained her composure, her tail opening its maw. She charged a massive blast and fired it at Naiola.

The energy beam impacted Naiola's shields. The impact caused the android to stumble back, her footing lost. She launched herself towards the Meteorn, her blade drawn.

Jytenreu swung her tail at the android, the blow deflected by the android's weapon.

The two combatants exchanged a flurry of blows, their weapons clashing against each other. They continued to trade strikes, neither able to gain the upper hand.

"Attack patterns recognized. Adjusting strategy." Naiola stated, her eyes scanning the Meteorn's movements. The android changed her tactics, adapting to her opponent's attacks.

Jytenreu grew frustrated, the android's movements unpredictable. "Damn it!" She snarled, launching another energy blast.

Naiola dodged, the blast exploding into the surrounding buildings.

The Meteorn was enraged, her energy building up in her maw. She fired a massive burst, the energy beam engulfing the entire street.

Naiola raised her shield, the beam hitting the shield and deflecting back at the Meteorn.

The blast caught Jytenreu off guard, sending her flying through a building.

"Warning. Power low. Engaging auxiliary battery." Naiola announced. The android's power dropped, the glow of her red eyes fading.

"Heh... HAHAHA!" Nidhogg stood, her armor fractured and her body lightly bruised. She charged her tail, the energy building up rapidly. "I'll turn this place into hell!"

Naiola retreated, jumping into the air.

The Meteorn released a shockwave, the force tearing through the surrounding area. Several buildings were leveled, their structures crumbling. Jytenreu fired burst after burst, her attacks devastating the city. She was unstoppable; the destruction was beyond anything the Empire had seen before.

Naiola observed the destruction, having withdrawn from the northern district. "Unable to determine the limit of the Nidhogg's energy. Advise retreat and reevaluate," she reported.

As Nidhogg began to slow down, her energy finally spent, she stood there in the center of a burning street. She was breathing heavy, and her energy spent. She looked around, her vision blurred, her ears ringing. "I'll burn it all... until... I find him..."

As her strength left her, the Meteorn fell to her knees, her body crumpling to the ground. The streets were filled with the sounds of fire, and the smell of smoke and burning metal filled the air.
