"Three," he replied after a brief pause. "I should be back within three days."
She lifted her head. "Should?" The single word carried enough suspicion to make him glance at her. "What does 'should' mean?"
"It means three days."
"It doesn't sound like three days," she muttered. "It sounds like one of those things people say before disappearing for two weeks."
Santiago looked at her for several moments. Then, despite himself, the corner of his mouth shifted in the faintest hint of a smile—brief enough that she almost missed it.
"You've become very demanding," he observed.
Daniella looked completely unapologetic. "You started it."
His eyebrow lifted. "I started what?"
"This." She gestured vaguely between them. "With your marriage proposal!"
