A moment later, two maids approached, moving with quiet efficiency as they began placing dishes across the table. One after another, bowls and plates filled the surface, steamed vegetables glistening with light seasoning, rich soups fragrant with herbs, perfectly cooked rice, and tender meats prepared without the sight of blood, all carefully arranged as though presentation itself mattered. The variety was overwhelming, almost excessive, and for a second Daniella simply looked at it, taking in the stark contrast between this abundance and the life she had known before.
At least there was no bloody steak.
That alone eased something small inside her.
The maids served her portion without delay, stepping back once they were done, their presence fading as silently as it had appeared.
