Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: Cute Now, Demon Later? The Evolutionary Trap

[Viewer "Wilderness Explorer #1": WTF! Jynx?! Master Miles, are you kidding me?! That thing looks like some mountain hag in a red dress! How did something so cute evolve into that?!]

[Viewer "Snowy Night Returner": I just looked it up in the Federation's Wild Anecdotes. Apparently, if you get caught in a sudden mountain blizzard, you're probably about to run into a Jynx. Rumor has it that any buff guy who catches a Jynx's eye will get bewitched by its weird dance and dragged deep into the snow to be its forced husband forever!]

[Viewer "Urban Myth Researcher": It gets worse! Urban legends say that anyone kissed by Jynx's thick lips will get their soul sucked out. You'll be trapped in a terrifying nightmare forever. It's literally the devil's kiss of death!]

[Viewer "Severe Appearance Judger": I refuse to accept this! How could such a pink, adorable little nugget grow up into a horrific monster?! This glow-down is way worse than Magikarp turning into Gyarados!]

[Viewer "Wild Imagination Novelist": Pass it on! Shocking gossip! Master Miles just admitted on stream to having a snowy mountain affair with a Jynx, and they had a cute Smoochum together!]

[Viewer "Here for the Drama": Pass it on! Master Miles is actually a Jynx using Psychic powers to take human form, and this is just his biological sister!]

[Viewer "Righteous Melon Eater": You guys are getting way out of hand! But seriously... if this cute little thing really grows into that ugly mug later, Brother, are you still going to be able to hug it?]

Watching the chat suddenly derail from a serious discussion about Pokémon evolution into fabricating rumors about his illegitimate Jynx daughter, Miles almost coughed up blood onto his monitor.

"Stop, stop, stop! Enough already!" he shouted, slapping the table in exasperation to wrangle the wild viewers.

"Keep spreading rumors about my private life, and I'm handing out permanent bans to all of you! These urban legends are heavily stigmatizing Jynx! Kidnapping men for forced husbands? The devil's kiss of death? It's all total bullshit!"

Forced to correct the public's misconceptions, Miles shifted into hardcore educational mode. "First, let's put aside our prejudices about appearances. What if I told you that this cute Smoochum—and its evolved form, Jynx—both possess the dual Ice and Psychic typing?"

"Ice-type?" Tiger paused on the video call. "No wonder... when I found it in the snow that day, it was shivering, but it didn't actually have any signs of frostbite."

[Viewer "Late Night Cultivator": Bro is capping. If you said it was Fairy-type or pure Psychic-type, I'd believe you. Ice-type? Where is the crystal-clear translucence of an Ice-type on that pinkish-purple skin?]

[Viewer "Keyboard Holmes": You really can't tell. Did the streamer just assume it was Ice-type because Tiger said he found it on a snowy day?]

Miles didn't panic at the chat's natural skepticism. Instead, he flashed a confident smile, entirely in control. As a professional appraisal streamer, letting the facts do the face-slapping was always more effective than arguing.

"That's your blind spot," Miles said, crossing his fingers and staring directly into the webcam. "Not only can I guarantee that Smoochum is an Ice-type, but if I'm not mistaken, the little one inTiger's arms is naturally gifted. It should already know the basic Ice-type move, Powder Snow!"

"Powder Snow?"Tiger slapped his thigh in sudden realization. "Oh man! Master Miles, you're a god! This kid really does know it! When I was playing with it a few days ago, I saw it blow sparkling little snowflakes out of its mouth. So that's what Powder Snow is!"

"Since it knows it, have it show the stream," Miles guided smoothly.

"You got it! Come on, little baby, show everyone how you blow snowflakes!"Tiger pleaded, pressing his hands together and beaming at the Smoochum.

However, the Smoochum just tilted its round head, completely missing his point. Seeing the large man pressing his hands together and leaning in, it assumed he wanted some affection. It happily pursed its thick lips and planted a big, wet smack right on Tiger's stubbly chin.

The gesture left the big guy blushing, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

"Brother, Pokémon have a strong instinct to imitate." Seeing this, Miles offered some quick tactical guidance. "Go to the freezer section of your fridge, scrape some ice shavings into your hand, and blow them into the air in front of it. It'll definitely understand."

Without a word,Tiger scooped up the Smoochum and rushed to the double-door fridge in his kitchen. He used a spoon to scrape a small handful of white frost into his broad palm, took a deep breath, and blew it out toward the Smoochum with a loud whoosh.

The cold white frost scattered through the air. Upon seeing this, the Smoochum's big, watery eyes instantly lit up!

"MiuMiu!"

It finally understood what the big guy wanted. Tapping into the latent Pokémon energy within its small body, it spread its hands slightly and took a sharp, deep breath of the cold air. A second later, its thick pink lips thrust forward!

Whooooosh!

A visible current of freezing air erupted from its mouth, carrying countless crystal-clear snowflakes that sparkled like diamonds! This flurry of Powder Snow acted like a miniature blizzard, blasting directly into the unpreparedTiger's face.

"Achoo!" Caught off guard, Tiger let out a massive sneeze. A layer of white frost instantly formed over his thick eyebrows, and his whole body shivered from the sudden chill.

Yet, an incredibly bright smile bloomed across his rugged face. "Ouch, I'm freezing to death! But you little thing, you're really amazing! Master Miles was right, you really are an Ice-type Pokémon!"

Having successfully completed its move, the Smoochum grew excited at the sight of Tiger's joy. Like a tiny ballet dancer, it leaped and twirled gracefully in place. The lingering ice and snow energy formed ribbon-like trails of white mist that swirled elegantly around its sides.

This scene of human and Pokémon interacting didn't just prove Miles's appraisal to be perfectly accurate—it was so beautiful that no one could look away.

The entire chat completely boiled over. The crystal snowflakes dancing in the air, refracted by the indoor lights, looked like a dreamy fairy tale performance.

When Pokémon—miraculous entities that transcended ordinary creatures—truly displayed their extraordinary powers to humans without reservation, the visual and emotional shock was nothing short of top-tier art!

On the livestream, dense comments poured down like an avalanche, completely burying the video feed!

[Viewer "Midnight Heartbreak Club": My God! It's actually a genuine Ice-type move! When that white cold current sprayed out just now, I subconsciously shivered through my screen! This is too cool!]

[Viewer "Canyon's Most Affectionate Jungler": I submit! I bow to the GOAT! How are Master Miles's eyes made? Just by looking at the appearance through a screen a few times, he can accurately judge the hidden dual typing of this unknown Pokémon, and even knows exactly what moves it can use! Bro is an unrivaled Master!]

[Viewer "Can't Afford Tea Eggs Bottom Worker": So cute and with such powerful strength, this Smoochum is simply the perfect dream pet! I'm drooling just looking at it. What kind of dumb luck didTiger stumble into? Going downstairs for a workout and picking up a priceless treasure like this!]

[Viewer "Keyboard Holmes": The facts prove that you should never question Master Miles's professional judgment! Where are the haters who were cynically mocking the streamer for failing and saying that pinkish-purple skin could never be Ice-type? Why so quiet now? Hurry up and come take your L!]

[Viewer "Outlaw John Doe": Too shocking! This seamless interaction between humans and natural spirits is exactly the kind of scene humanity dreams of! ButTiger's cold resistance is built different. Getting a mouthful of Powder Snow sprayed in his face and still smiling so happily.]

[Viewer "Just Want to be a Quiet Rich Girl": Ahhh! Smoochum spinning and blowing snowflakes looks just like a little fairy! Master Miles, I take back what I said earlier, I'll pay double! Please help me persuade this bro to transfer this little cutie to me!]

[Viewer "Wild Pokémon Breeding Scholar": This is definitely a major discovery in the Federation's Pokémon research field! Just how many unheard-of secrets are hidden in Master Miles's bottomless knowledge reserve? I'm willing to call Master Miles a walking, living Pokémon encyclopedia!]

[Viewer "Staying Up Cultivating Just for Updates": W Streamer! Master Miles has completely mastered this livestreaming game. The speed and intensity of this face-slapping is even more thrilling than reading a webnovel!]

Watching the chat overflow with crazy praise and worship, Miles fought back a grin. He deliberately leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, putting on the air of a transcendent master completely indifferent to worldly fame.

"Ah, chat, you're praising me too much. It's just basic operations, just basic operations," Miles said into the mic, his tone dripping with highly punchable humility. "Like I said before, I only understand a little about this Pokémon. I'm just scratching the surface. It's all thanks to my friend at the research institute."

The moment those words dropped, the viewers who had just been singing his praises collectively rolled their eyes.

[Viewer "Curing All Kinds of Disobedience Old Doctor": Good lord, he's showing off again! Fucking 'scratching the surface'! If you only know the surface, doesn't that make the rest of us ordinary people worse than single-celled organisms?]

[Viewer "Frontline Melon Eater": The streamer's pretentious 'hiding my power level' act makes me inexplicably want to crawl through the network cable and beat him up. He's way too smug!]

[Viewer "Elden Ring Senior Gold Medal Lecturer": If Master Miles only counts as 'understanding a little,' then those Federation Pokémon experts sitting in air-conditioned rooms collecting fat paychecks might as well find a block of tofu to smash their heads against. Too much humility is just arrogance, Master!]

Seeing the familiar, friendly teasing in the chat, Miles smiled knowingly.

Did he really have to lay his cards on the table in front of hundreds of thousands of people and tell the truth?

'Sorry, but everyone here is practically illiterate, and there is absolutely no one in this world who understands Pokémon better than I do?' If he did that, he'd probably end up sliced apart on a secret laboratory's dissection table by tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, on the video call,Tiger was still letting out loud sneezes from taking that point-blank Powder Snow. His bald forehead and thick stubble were covered in glistening frost. He shivered violently, his teeth chattering with a loud clack-clack-clack.

Yet, that rugged, uninhibited face of his still beamed with the loving, satisfied grin of a proud father.

This was the unique charm of Pokémon. To those who truly loved them, once a bond was formed, a Pokémon was no different from their own biological child.

Even if an owner got accidentally hurt by their supernatural powers during play, they wouldn't harbor a single shred of blame or complaint.

Instead, they would only feel sincere pride at the powerful talent their pokemon displayed.

Of course, Tiger walking away with just a few sneezes was mostly because this Smoochum was merely Level 6.

Still in its infancy, its move held zero killing intent; it was purely an act of imitation and play. If this had been an adult, hostile Ice-type Pokémon releasing Powder Snow... well, even a basic 40 Base Power move wasn't something a fragile human body could easily tank. Severe, large-scale frostbite, or even tissue necrosis, would be getting off lightly.

"MiuMiu..."

Unleashing two unreserved blasts of Ice-type energy was clearly a heavy burden for a newborn Smoochum. It panted slightly from exhaustion, blinking its big, watery eyes.

When it noticed that the big guy—the one who always fed it treats and played with it—was shivering uncontrollably, the little creature's acute emotional instincts immediately sensed his discomfort.

The Smoochum instantly stopped its spinning dance and trotted over to Tiger with quick, tiny steps. Turning around, it pressed its soft, round body tightly against Tiger's freezing arm, trying to warm him up with its own body heat.

Seeing this incredibly heartwarming scene, Miles's gaze softened, a surge of warmth welling up in his chest.

At the same time, it practically verified a basic fact of Pokémon biology for him... although Smoochum was an Ice-type capable of manipulating snow and wind, it was fundamentally different from pure elemental lifeforms like Cryogonal or Glalie.

It wasn't just condensed ice crystals. It was a carbon-based creature of flesh and blood. Warm blood flowed through its veins, and its body temperature might actually be slightly higher than a normal human's.

However, just as this beautiful cross-species bond reached its most touching moment, the tone of the livestream's chat took a sharp, heavy plunge.

[Viewer "Midnight Emotional Radio Sweet Sister": Sigh, the clingier and cuter this little guy is now, the more regret I feel in my heart. If it really is the pre-evolution of Jynx, thenTiger needs to keep his guard up. What if you're raising it, and one morning you wake up and it's suddenly evolved into that hideous Black Mountain Hag? How huge would the psychological trauma be?]

[Viewer "Severe Appearance Judger Terminal Patient": Strongly agree!Tiger, listen to chat's advice. Although this treasure looks like an angel right now, it's an irreversible appearance trap! You absolutely cannot let it evolve! Once it evolves, it's completely ruined, and by then, even if you want to send it away, you won't be able to bring yourself to do it!]

[Viewer "Mysterious Incident Investigation Bureau": Seriously, Jynx isn't just ugly; its whole body exudes an evil aura. Legend has it they like to seduce passing travelers in blizzards. Keeping such a potential danger in the house is same as inviting a wolf into your home.]

[Viewer "Just Want to Live Safely": For the sake of your own safety, you really shouldn't raise this Pokémon. Although it looks harmless now, the genes of a snowy mountain witch flow in it. Who knows if it'll awaken some anti-social instinct when it grows up?]
