Chapter 142 - The Naka River

Nagi thought for a moment about what he knew regarding the Second Hokage and replied:

"The Second Hokage, Lord Tobirama Senju, was famed as one of the fastest shinobi ever. His mastery of the Flying Thunder God Technique was unparalleled, and he was praised as the fastest ninja in the world."

Hiruzen and Danzō nodded.

These were all facts recorded in the Ninja Academy textbooks.

Nagi continued mentioning a few other things, though they were mostly well-known information about the Second Hokage.

Then Hiruzen asked again,

"Nagi… the Water Release technique you used that day was very impressive. How did you come up with the idea of turning Water Formation Wall into Water Shockwave?"

"Water Shockwave?"

Nagi looked at the Third Hokage in confusion.

"Hmm?"

Now it was Hiruzen's turn to be puzzled.

Danzō, however, immediately understood.

It seemed Nagi had no idea that the technique he used that day was essentially Water Shockwave.

After thinking for a moment, Nagi answered:

"That day, when I saw Hinata using Rotation, I wondered whether it would be possible to make Water Formation Wall defend in all directions while spinning to attack at the same time."

There was a clear and innocent look in Nagi's eyes.

Hiruzen and Danzō fell silent.

After the meal ended, Nagi bid the two elders farewell.

Watching his departing figure, Hiruzen asked:

"Danzō, what do you think?"

Danzō replied,

"Whether the boy has any connection to our teacher or not, one thing is certain—he's a genius. And his character and moral conduct are nearly flawless."

Hiruzen nodded.

"It seems Konoha has gained another extraordinary prodigy."

Danzō then added,

"What about the exchange student class?"

Hiruzen nodded again.

"Let's observe for a while longer. I believe this boy will give us many surprises."

That night, after returning home, Nagi lay on his bed in a daze.

Earlier that day, when Hiruzen and Danzō mentioned the Second Hokage, a vague silhouette had repeatedly appeared in his mind.

The figure felt extremely familiar and close to him—

Yet he had absolutely no memory of it.

"Who are you…?"

"Why can't I remember?"

"Are you someone important to me?"

Nagi buried his head into his pillow as tears streamed down his face.

"Why… why?!"

"Someone who should be so important to me… why can't I remember them at all?! Why?!"

At that moment, a faint dark Yin Release chakra flickered around Nagi's body.

But it quickly subsided.

Hashirama Senju:

Sigh… Tobirama.

Tobirama Senju:

That's enough, Big Brother.

Orochimaru:

So his Yin Release chakra has been stimulated. It seems the Second Hokage holds an unquestionable place in Nagi's heart.

Kabuto Yakushi:

Lord Orochimaru, the Yin chakra Nagi released this time was extremely pure. Do you think it might be…?

Orochimaru:

It's possible.

Tsunade:

What are you two talking about in riddles?

Nagi :

...

The screen continued.

After the final exams ended, the school vacation soon arrived.

Following a vague memory, Nagi arrived at a small river.

"This is… the Naka River?"

Only then did he realize that he had wandered into the Uchiha Clan's district.

At that moment, a voice sounded from above him.

"Hey. Why are you here?"

Nagi looked up.

On the branch of the nearby tree, Satsuki Uchiha stood looking down at him.

"I'm looking for a good place to fish. I just happened to pass by."

Satsuki rolled her eyes.

"You expect me to believe that?"

She jumped down from the tree and said,

"This is where I usually train. If you don't have any business here, you should leave."

Nagi nodded.

"I understand."

After all, he had intruded into someone else's training ground. Most people wouldn't feel comfortable training with strangers around.

Just as Nagi turned to leave, Satsuki suddenly shouted:

"Wait! There's a trap I set yesterday over there—"

But Nagi had already stepped into a red-marked circle.

In the next moment—

A rain of shuriken shot out from the forest.

Nagi moved lightly.

Calm and unhurried, he walked through the storm of shuriken.

Not a single blade even touched his clothes.

Satsuki's eyes widened in shock.

She had never seen someone deal with traps like that before.

But she quickly reacted.

"Wait a second! That path isn't the one you came from, right? I placed a lot of training traps there."

Nagi stopped.

He had been following his instincts earlier and hadn't really paid attention to the route he had taken.

Satsuki sighed.

"Forget it. Just fish here. As long as you don't interfere with my training."

She agreed to let Nagi stay.

Otherwise, if he kept walking forward, he might trigger the rest of her traps.

That would completely ruin the training setup she spent all day preparing yesterday.

Nagi nodded.

Then he took out fishing gear from a sealing scroll and began fishing.

Meanwhile, Satsuki headed deeper into the forest toward the traps she had set.

Nagi sat on a rock by the river.

On the surface, it looked like he was fishing.

But in reality, he was meditating, emptying his mind.

In the past few days, he had discovered another type of chakra that did not belong to the Five Basic Chakra Natures.

The golden chakra he had used earlier seemed capable of strengthening his physical power.

Meanwhile, the dark Yin chakra enhanced his spiritual strength.

He discovered that meditation allowed him to cultivate this power.

So he began experimenting with it.

After some time passed—

Satsuki ended her training early.

Something felt strange today.

No matter which training exercise she practiced, everything went unusually smoothly.

For some reason, she kept glancing toward Nagi by the river.

Even when she tried to suppress the urge to look, her thoughts kept drifting back to him.

"What's going on…?"

Meanwhile, Nagi also noticed something odd.

His meditation practice was progressing far more smoothly than usual.

At that moment, Satsuki walked over.

"How's the fishing here?"

"It's good. The fish here are fatter than in other places."

"Really? Then you can come fish here tomorrow too."

"Won't it disturb your training?"

Satsuki shook her head.

"No. If you want to train here as well, that's fine."

"I understand."

A week passed.

Nagi and Satsuki were sparring beside the Naka River.

Satsuki had specifically asked Nagi not to hold back.

But the result was always the same.

Within just a few exchanges, she would be defeated.

Still, she wasn't discouraged.

She had already realized the gap between their strength was quite large.

After that, she began training near Nagi instead.

Over the past few days, she had discovered something interesting.

Whenever she trained near Nagi, her training speed increased dramatically.

And the closer she was to him—

the faster her improvement became.

Nagi had also noticed something similar.

The closer Satsuki stood to him, the faster his cultivation progressed—no matter which type of chakra he was training.

This left him deeply puzzled.
