Chapter 20 - # Chapter 20: A Clumsy Script

"O Fool that does not belong to this era; You are the mysterious ruler above the grey fog; You are the King of Yellow and Black who wields good luck. Thank You for Your grace, which has allowed me to have a wonderful morning..."

In the early morning, Snow as per his routine woke Mr. Fool up and then rang for room service to deliver breakfast.

Mr. A was currently staying right next door to him. Praying to another deity almost face-to-face like this was quite a thrill.

However, in Mr. A's eyes, Snow was merely offering his loyalty to the True Creator. In fact, he found Snow more and more pleasing to the eye.

Unlike Snow, who was being watched by the police, Mr. A's arrival had been very secretive. Thus, after praying to his 'Lord' [True Creator] in the morning, he hurriedly left the inn to search for that lady [Megane].

Snow hadn't hidden any information regarding Megane, including her interpersonal relationships and why she had gone to the Divination Club. As he had mentioned before, a child of an evil god in Tingen was a devastating disaster, but in Backlund, it wouldn't even cause a splash.

If Mr. A could take the child and Megane to Backlund, Snow would have agreed with both hands and feet. However, he suspected that Mr. A's trip was more likely to end in failure...

...

Just as Snow was finishing his prayer to Mr. Fool, on the outskirts of Tingen, within a house with a red chimney, a quill was scribbling furiously on an open notebook without any hand holding it, "How surprising. Mr. A, who should have stayed in Backlund, has actually come to Tingen. Undoubtedly, he intends to take Megane away. Although this hasn't received the True Creator's personal approval, as a mad and devout believer, Mr. A clearly wouldn't tolerate the Lord's offspring being left to wander. This is very logical."

"Oh, poor Ince Zangwill. A Sequence 5 Gatekeeper, no matter what, is unable to stop a Shepard who has 'grazed' seven Beyonders! His plotting seems inevitably sliding toward failure. This is likely because he isn't very good at weaving stories, isn't it? One must admit, as a writer, he is truly quite clums--"

As the quill danced frantically, a somewhat coarse, pale palm suddenly reached out from the darkness and gripped it tightly. Then, the owner of the hand roughly started a new line and wrote new words in a different handwriting, "Mr. A, as an Oracle of the Aurora Order, always attracts attention wherever he goes. His departure from Backlund undoubtedly drew the serious attention of the three major Churches. Three elite Beyonder squads, following the traces he left, have arrived in Tingen and intercepted him while he was searching for Megane."

"As a Sequence 5 Beyonder, his appearance undoubtedly drew the attention of all official Beyonders in Tingen. To prevent this madman from causing an irreversible disaster, all official Beyonders have stopped their current work and started putting all their effort into tracking him down. This is very reasonable."

...

"Red Gloves? Dammit!" After several divinations, Mr. A had finally narrowed down Megane's address. But just as he was about to arrive at the target location, a squad of Beyonders wearing red gloves intercepted him.

Although as a Shepard--who was nearly invincible in a spontaneous encounter--he didn't worry about his own safety, it was undoubtedly no longer possible to take the Son of God away under the pursuit of these hyena-like pagans.

As Mr. A activated his shadow-transforming ability to enter a hidden state, he pondered the reason for this failure.

Among the Beyonders he had 'grazed' was a Devil, yet his 'Malice Perception' hadn't triggered. This meant it was merely a "chance encounter".

But... could it really be such a coincidence?

As a long-time Beyonder, Mr. A immediately connected this with the information he had received from Snow the previous night. A savage expression appeared on his beautiful face, "As expected, all of this is within someone's calculation! To think they dare use our Lord! Damnit!"

However, since the opponent chose to let the Red Gloves intercept him, it was highly likely they weren't a Beyonder skilled in direct combat--at least, not the type that could quickly defeat him.

Having thought this through, Mr. A immediately abandoned the idea of fighting the Red Gloves head-on. Instead, he released a large-scale Dream Entrapment.

Even if he was a Sequence 5, such a crude dream-induction wouldn't pose a danger to the elite Red Gloves. However, a single moment of resistance was enough for him to escape the battlefield.

"He got away!" one of the Red Glove Beyonders said with annoyance. An older Red Glove reached out and pressed the junior's shoulder.

"No, it would be more accurate to say we were spared by him..."

At this, he sighed once more, "It seems this madman doesn't want to blow things up. This undoubtedly means his coming to Tingen wasn't a whim. We must pass the news back as quickly as possible... whenever the Aurora Order is involved, nothing good ever happens!"

...

" Lord of the Mysteries is just a novel..."

Layered whispers once again echoed in Snow's ears. He knew that 0-08 was starting to search for the person disrupting the script again.

Snow felt both annoyed and pleased by 0-08's frantic behavior. Annoyed because of the headache, but at the same time, the fact that 0-08 was going crazy meant that its--or rather, Ince Zangwill's--script had been torn up once again.

'It seems Mr. A's actions have indeed caused Ince Zangwill quite a headache. A pity; if Mr. A had gone while that fellow was sleeping, maybe he really could have taken Megane away.'

While Snow said this, everything happening now was within his calculations.

It was almost inevitable that Ince Zangwill would interfere with Mr. A. But as long as Mr. A could attract the attention of the official Beyonders, his plan was already half successful. As for the other half...

As for the other half, that depends on our Mr. Fool...

...

"Captain, what did you call me for?" On the other side, Mr. Fool--who had been forced to wake up early due to Mr. Devil's prayer--arrived at the Blackthorn Security Company. Just as he was having his mysticism lesson with Old Neil while thinking about how to inconspicuously inform the Captain about the child of the evil god, he and Old Neil were both called into the office by the Captain.

Then, he discovered that it wasn't just him and Old Neil in the office. Frye, Kenley, Royale... even Sika Tron, who was off-duty today, had been called in.

While he didn't know exactly what had happened, Klein knew one thing for certain: it must be big!

A/N: I believe no 'Adam' is watching the Tingen events--

First, 0-08 is a contingency left by the Envisioned Dragon. If it felt Adam's gaze, it would likely try to flee rather than play games with Ince Zangwill.

Second, at this point in time, Adam's main focus should be on guiding historical trends (including the assassination of Duke Negan). Based on 0-08's coverage range, Adam's attention is likely limited, and compared to the 0-08 deal reached with the Evernight Goddess, the ritual itself is the most important and must not be mishandled.

Third, Adam and the True Creator are mortal rivals. The True Creator wouldn't sit by and watch Adam get 0-08, and the original work explicitly states the True Creator saw traces of 0-08 on Lanevus but didn't intervene, proving Adam wasn't involved then.

Fourth, while the Goddess permitted Ince to steal 0-08, Adam should have to wait until the Goddess achieved her goal before he could touch it, otherwise the deal would be broken. A pre-descent Adam is no match for the Goddess, so he likely didn't--and dared not--watch 0-08 in Tingen (or perhaps the Goddess 'Concealed' 0-08).

A/N: The current Klein is still quite inexperienced and his wariness isn't that high yet. If it were the Sherlock Detective from Volume 2, he likely wouldn't have pulled Snow up directly to ask for details, but the current him would.
