[Current Time: Day 3 — 04:30 AM] [Location: Sector 7 Jungle — Northern Perimeter]
The jungle didn't have a morning; it only had a lessening of the dark.
Zeth sat atop a thick branch of a Cedar-bark tree, his back pressed against the trunk to take the weight off his stitched ribs. Below him, the forest floor was a misty graveyard of rotting leaves and bioluminescent fungi. He had spent the last six hours moving in total silence, avoiding the larger "Auras" the System detected in the deep brush.
"System," Zeth thought, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Status check on the surroundings. Filter by 'Threat Aura' to match the recruits' terminology."
[Scanning... Aura Detection Active.] [Target A: 50m North. Faint Yellow Aura. Species: Metapod.] [Target B: 120m East. Pulsing Orange Aura. Species: Arbok. Estimated Level: 18.] [Target C: 200m South-West. Chaotic Red Aura. Species: Group of 4 Recruits.]
Zeth watched the 'Red Aura' group through the ferns. To them, they were likely feeling "confident" or "strong" in their numbers. To Zeth, they were a collection of sub-optimal stats. They didn't know their Pokémon were only Level 8—they just knew their Rattata looked "meaner" than yesterday.
"They're guessing," Zeth whispered to Houndour. "They see a glow and think it's power. We see the numbers."
Houndour let out a quiet, raspy huff. The 'Ignis' meat and the 'Justified' awakening had changed its presence. Its black fur was sleek, and a faint, constant heat shimmered off its ribs. In the eyes of an experienced Rocket Grunt, this Houndour would be described as having a "Sharp Green Aura"—a sign of elite potential that had already tasted blood.
[Day 5 — 14:00 PM] [Points: 85]
Zeth followed a survivalist's "Apex Efficiency" model: kill the many to strengthen the one. He spent forty-eight hours hunting Oddish and Bellsprout in the jungle fringes. To other recruits, these were "weak" Pokémon. But Zeth saw the math. They were easy Level 5-7 targets that provided steady experience with zero risk to his stitches.
[Experience Threshold Reached.] [Houndour: Level 10 -> 12.] [Note: The 'Basic' Shackle is widening. Biological capacity for a second Basic TM detected.]
Zeth dropped from a rock, landing lightly. He had been hoarding his points, surviving on rainwater and non-toxic grubs.
"We're getting faster," Zeth noted. "But the 'Aura' of the island is shifting."
As the days passed, the weaker recruits—the "fodder"—had either been killed or absorbed into larger gangs. The jungle was becoming a place of only "Strong Auras."
[Day 7 — 09:00 AM] [Location: The Ash-Line (Border of the Volcano Zone)]
By the end of the first week, Zeth reached the Ash-Line. The trees here were skeletal, black husks, and the ground was covered in grey soot.
"System, scan the Ash-Line. Look for the 'Blue' signature Viper mentioned."
[Scanning... Interference from volcanic heat is high.] [No 'Blue' potential detected in immediate vicinity.] [Alert: Multiple 'Orange' auras detected ahead. A 'Culling' event is in progress.]
Zeth crept forward. In a wide clearing, he saw a group of ten recruits led by a boy with a scarred face and a Blue-potential Squirtle.
"See that?" the leader shouted, pointing at his Squirtle as it blasted a wild Mankey. "That's a Prodigy Blue glow! My father didn't pay for a Master-bred egg for me to lose to some desert rats!"
Zeth watched from the shadows. The Squirtle was strong—the System identified it as Level 16. Its aura was noticeably denser and more vibrant than Houndour's Green. In this world, Blue was better than Green, and the difference in raw output was visible even to the naked eye.
"Blue potential. Level 16," Zeth calculated. "But the trainer is an idiot."
Suddenly, the ground vibrated. A massive shadow loomed through the ash-clouds. The Mankey pack immediately scattered. The 'Blue' recruit laughed, until the "Aura" hit them. It was a suffocating, dark Green—not the elite green of a recruit's starter, but the corrupted green of an ancient, twisted predator.
An Arcanine.
Its eyes were a milky, sightless white, and its "Aura" was flickering with the purple distortion of a Gate.
[Warning! Target: 'Cursed' Arcanine. Level: 32.] [Survival Probability: 4%.]
"Run," Zeth whispered, grabbing Houndour.
The 'Blue' recruit didn't have a System. He thought his "Deep Blue" Squirtle could handle it because of type advantage.
"Squirtle! Water Gu—"
The Arcanine didn't use a move. It simply breathed. A wall of white-hot heat evaporated the Water Gun instantly. The screams that followed were cut short by a roar that shook the island.
Zeth was already 200 meters away, sprinting back toward the Jungle.
"Level 32," Zeth's mind was racing. "Viper didn't mention Level 30+ 'Cursed' monsters. The 'Book' is officially obsolete."
He skidded to a halt in the deep jungle. He looked at Houndour. The pup was trembling.
"We aren't strong enough," Zeth said. "Level 12 is nothing. That Blue Squirtle was better than you, and it was erased in a second."
He looked at his Point Balance: 85.
"We need a Great Ball. And we need to break your Green ceiling. System... unlock the next tier of the Breeding Module. I don't care what it costs."
[Breeding Module: Tier 2 Access - Restricted.] [Requirement: 500 Points & 1 Elemental Essence.]
Zeth looked back toward the volcano. The first week was over. The island was starting to hunt the hunters.
[End of Day 7] [Status: Level 12 Houndour] [Points: 85]
