Chapter 149 - 151. The Man Who Opened the Lighthouse

The Lighthouse transmission ended.

But one thing remained.

A coordinate.

It wasn't in normal space.

It wasn't beyond the Boundary.

It existed between realities—as if someone had pinned a single point onto the fabric of existence itself.

Olympus tried to analyze it.

Failed.

The Custodians tried.

Failed.

Even Horizon's ancient navigation systems returned the same result.

UNKNOWN DESTINATION.

Adrian folded his arms.

"I officially hate coordinates that don't exist."

Selene smirked.

"Get used to it."

The war room erupted into discussion.

Scientists insisted the signal could be a trap.

Military commanders demanded Earth's defenses remain at maximum readiness.

Several Council members wanted to destroy the coordinate before anyone attempted to investigate it.

Others argued the opposite.

If the Lighthouse had truly waited through eight cycles…

Ignoring it might be humanity's greatest mistake.

Elara stood silently near the panoramic window.

Beyond the glass, Earth floated peacefully beneath a sea of stars.

One year.

One peaceful year.

Children had gone back to school.

Cities had been rebuilt.

Humanity had started dreaming about the future again.

She refused to throw all of that away carelessly.

Yet…

That final sentence echoed inside her mind.

"You are either our last hope… or our final mistake."

"Olympus."

Her voice broke the room's arguments instantly.

"Probability that the Lighthouse transmission is hostile."

The AI answered almost immediately.

INSUFFICIENT DATA.

"Probability it is telling the truth."

INSUFFICIENT DATA.

Adrian sighed dramatically.

"Very helpful."

Before anyone could continue—

Every screen inside Olympus flickered.

Just once.

The room fell silent.

No alarms.

No warnings.

Only one line of text slowly appeared.

YOU ARE LATE.

Selene's face changed instantly.

"That's impossible…"

The message vanished.

Replaced by another.

HE IS WAITING.

Then—

Everything shut off.

For exactly one second.

Darkness swallowed the chamber.

No lights.

No holograms.

No emergency systems.

Nothing.

When power returned—

Someone was standing in the middle of the command room.

Nobody had seen him appear.

No teleportation.

No portal.

No energy surge.

He was simply…

There.

Adrian instinctively stepped in front of Elara.

Security teams raised their weapons.

The Custodian's silver aura flared.

The Veil distorted violently.

Even the Architect took a cautious step forward.

The stranger looked around the room with mild curiosity.

He appeared human.

Around thirty years old.

Black hair.

Dark grey eyes.

A long charcoal coat covered in tiny silver symbols that shimmered like distant constellations.

No visible weapons.

No armor.

Just a calm expression.

He glanced at everyone's terrified faces.

Then sighed.

"...This is always awkward."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

The stranger rubbed the back of his neck.

"I was hoping this cycle would panic a little less."

Adrian blinked.

"This cycle?"

The man smiled apologetically.

"Right."

"You probably have questions."

Nobody answered.

Because no one knew where to begin.

The stranger looked toward the Architect.

"...Aeres."

The Architect froze.

Not surprised.

Shocked.

Something nobody had seen in centuries.

"You…"

Aeres whispered.

"...Impossible."

The man chuckled softly.

"I've heard that word a lot today."

Selene slowly stood.

Her face had gone pale.

"No…"

"It can't be."

The stranger turned toward her and smiled warmly.

"Hello, Commander."

Selene staggered backward.

Her voice barely escaped.

"...Cassian."

The entire chamber turned toward Selene.

"You know him?"

She didn't answer.

She couldn't.

She simply stared at the stranger as if she were looking at a ghost.

Cassian looked around the room again.

"So…"

"This is Cycle Eight."

He smiled.

"You did much better than we expected."

The Custodian finally spoke.

Its normally emotionless voice carried something new.

Disbelief.

"Identity confirmation requested."

Cassian looked directly at the silver figure.

"No."

The Custodian remained silent.

Cassian shrugged.

"You already know who I am."

Silence.

Long.

Heavy.

Then—

For the first time in recorded history—

The Custodian lowered its head.

Not in submission.

In recognition.

The chamber collectively stopped breathing.

Adrian whispered,

"...What the hell is happening?"

Cassian looked toward Earth through the massive observation window.

A gentle smile appeared on his face.

"So..."

"This is what humanity became."

There was pride in his voice.

Real pride.

Like someone seeing family after an impossibly long journey.

Then—

Without warning—

His smile disappeared.

His eyes focused somewhere far beyond the stars.

Beyond the Deep Ocean.

Beyond the Dreamers.

His expression hardened.

"They found me."

Olympus alarms exploded.

Every light turned crimson.

⚠ UNKNOWN ENTITY DETECTED ⚠

⚠ MULTIPLE REALITY BREACHES OPENING ⚠

⚠ LIGHTHOUSE DEFENSE PROTOCOL ACTIVATED ⚠

The stars outside Olympus…

Began disappearing.

One by one.

As if something unimaginably vast was covering the sky.

Cassian closed his eyes for a single second.

Then quietly whispered—

"They're here."

The stars continued disappearing.

Not exploding.

Not fading.

Simply... vanishing.

One after another.

Like someone was gently placing a hand over the night sky.

The observation deck fell into complete silence.

No one had ever imagined a darkness capable of swallowing stars.

Yet it was happening.

Outside Olympus.

Right in front of them.

Olympus' voice echoed through the command center.

WARNING

VISUAL HORIZON COLLAPSING

CAUSE: UNKNOWN

PREDICTION: IMPOSSIBLE

Adrian slowly looked from the window to Cassian.

"...Please tell me this isn't because of you."

Cassian didn't answer immediately.

His eyes remained fixed on the growing darkness.

Finally, he whispered,

"...No."

A brief pause.

"...It's because they know where I am."

The Architect stepped forward.

"A lighthouse doesn't simply attract travelers..."

His expression darkened.

"...it attracts everything."

Cassian nodded.

"Exactly."

Selene clenched her fists.

"You should never have come here."

Cassian looked at her with tired eyes.

"I didn't have a choice."

"You always have a choice."

"Not when the Lighthouse calls."

The Veil suddenly flickered violently.

Blue energy spread through the chamber.

"They're searching."

The Custodian answered immediately.

"They have not crossed."

"Yet."

That single word made everyone tense.

Earth's orbital defenses activated automatically.

Thousands of defense satellites emerged from standby.

Massive rail platforms rotated toward deep space.

The rebuilt planetary fleet launched from lunar docks.

Humanity hadn't forgotten the Harvesters.

This time—

Earth would be ready.

Adrian stared at the tactical display.

"Against... what exactly?"

No one answered.

Because every long-range scanner had already failed.

They couldn't see the enemy.

Only the absence it left behind.

Cassian walked toward the observation glass.

His reflection stared back at him.

Older.

More exhausted than any human should ever look.

"I've spent thousands of years running."

He smiled bitterly.

"And somehow..."

"...I still wasn't fast enough."

Elara joined him beside the window.

"You've been alive since the First Humanity."

"Yes."

"How?"

Cassian looked toward the stars.

"The Lighthouse."

Silence.

"It doesn't merely guard the Boundary."

"It changes those who guard it."

The chamber grew still.

Cassian raised his hand.

Tiny silver lights floated around his fingertips like drifting stars.

"They call it immortality."

He slowly closed his hand.

"It isn't."

"It's watching everyone you love become history."

Selene lowered her head.

For the first time—

No one saw the legendary commander.

Only an old friend mourning another.

Suddenly—

A low vibration spread through Olympus.

Not mechanical.

The station itself seemed to tremble.

Olympus announced,

EXTERNAL REALITY PRESSURE INCREASING

Hairline cracks of silver light appeared across space itself.

Not in the station.

Outside it.

Like invisible glass beginning to fracture.

Adrian swallowed.

"I have a really bad feeling."

Cassian looked toward the cracks.

"You should."

One crack widened.

Inside it—

Nothing.

Not darkness.

Not light.

Just complete absence.

A place where reality simply didn't exist.

Then—

A hand reached through.

Human in shape.

Impossible in scale.

Only the fingertips emerged before stopping.

Not touching reality.

Simply resting against it.

Every person inside Olympus felt an unbearable pressure inside their minds.

Memories blurred.

Voices echoed.

Time itself seemed uncertain.

Olympus screamed through every speaker.

COGNITIVE SHIELD FAILURE

EMERGENCY PROTOCOLS ENGAGED

The Custodian stepped forward.

Silver light erupted around the station.

The Veil joined it.

Blue waves surrounded Olympus.

Even the Architect activated ancient systems hidden beneath the station.

Three impossible civilizations.

One barrier.

The pressure eased.

Only slightly.

The gigantic hand slowly withdrew.

Not because it had been stopped.

Because it had chosen to.

The crack sealed.

The stars returned.

The crushing silence lifted.

Everyone inside the chamber collapsed to one knee, gasping.

Everyone...

Except Cassian.

He remained standing.

Watching the place where the crack had vanished.

"They're testing the door."

His voice was barely audible.

"They've never done that before."

Adrian forced himself back to his feet.

"I don't like the phrase 'testing the door.'"

Cassian gave a weak smile.

"Neither do I."

Olympus suddenly received another transmission.

Not from outside.

From the Lighthouse itself.

The same tired voice echoed softly.

KEEP THE LIGHT BURNING.

DO NOT LET THE DOOR CLOSE.

The message ended.

Elara frowned.

"That doesn't make sense."

"If the door stays open..."

She looked at Cassian.

"...won't they come through?"

Cassian slowly shook his head.

"No."

Everyone stared.

"The door was never built to keep them out."

Silence.

"It was built..."

He looked toward the endless stars.

"...to keep us connected."

Before anyone could ask what he meant—

Olympus displayed a final alert.

NEW DESTINATION UNLOCKED

LIGHTHOUSE ACCESS CORRIDOR STABLE

WINDOW REMAINING: 72 HOURS

Cassian turned toward Elara.

His tired eyes held quiet determination.

"If you want answers..."

"...you'll have to come with me."

He glanced toward the glowing corridor forming beyond the station.

"The Lighthouse doesn't reveal its secrets twice."

The chamber fell silent.

A journey beyond every known map had just begun.
