The Arena Reborn
Morning light fell upon the Academy.
But this was not the same arena.
The entire battlefield had been reconstructed.
Layered anti-collapse barriers. Multi-tiered magic reinforcement arrays. Impact-absorption sigils glowing faintly beneath the stone.
This arena wasn't repaired.
It was upgraded.
Because today—
Power would exceed limits.
---
The stadium was overflowing.
Nobles. War mages. Former champions.
Even the Headmaster stood this time.
Not seated.
Standing.
---
The four semi-finalists entered from separate gates.
First—
Sylven Marrow.
Spear resting calmly against his shoulder.
Silent as always.
Then—
Riven Ashford.
Hands in pockets.
Eyes sharp.
A predator waiting.
Then—
Kael Drayden.
Spear grounded.
Space faintly distorting around him.
And finally—
Iren.
Sword at his side.
Flames quiet.
But alive.
---
The announcer's voice thundered.
"After five days of recovery and preparation…"
"These four stand at the peak!"
A pause.
"Only two will advance to the Final!"
---
Semi Final 1
Iren vs Riven
The arena sealed.
VMMMMMMMM—
Multiple barrier layers activated.
Even the Headmaster's eyes sharpened.
Because this—
Was not a normal match.
---
Riven rolled his shoulders.
"Let's see if the fire survives in the dark."
Iren slowly separated his sword.
Two daggers.
Flames flickered faintly.
Quiet.
Controlled.
---
"BEGIN!"
Riven vanished instantly.
FWISH!
Burst speed activated.
He appeared at Iren's blind spot—
Blade aimed for the spine.
But—
CLANG!
Iren blocked without turning.
Flames sparked on contact.
Riven smirked.
"You saw that?"
Iren replied calmly:
"No."
Fire flared slightly.
"I felt it."
---
Riven increased speed.
FWISH! FWISH! FWISH!
Afterimages surrounded Iren.
Multiple angles.
Multiple strikes.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Sparks and fire exploded outward.
The ground cracked beneath their feet.
---
Riven clicked his tongue.
"Then let's complicate it."
The shadows shifted.
Dark tendrils spread across the battlefield.
No warning.
No hint.
They surged upward—
Iren leapt back—
But a shadow wrapped around his ankle.
Riven appeared instantly in front—
Blade descending—
"Too slow!"
BOOOOM!!!
A pillar of fire erupted.
The shadow disintegrated.
Riven was forced backward.
---
The audience roared.
Kael narrowed his eyes.
"He controlled the output…"
Sylven watched silently.
---
Iren exhaled slowly.
The flames around him grew denser.
Not wild.
Focused.
"You improved."
Riven grinned.
"So did you."
---
Riven's presence changed.
He didn't rush this time.
He walked.
Slowly.
His shadow stretched unnaturally.
The arena lighting dimmed slightly.
Not physically—
But perceptually.
Then—
He vanished completely.
Not speed.
Not afterimage.
Gone.
The crowd gasped.
---
Iren stood still.
Listening.
Breathing.
Flames lowered.
Smaller.
Concentrated.
A whisper echoed from behind.
"Found you."
A blade pierced through fire—
Shadow-enhanced—
Aimed for the heart.
But Iren twisted—
Letting it graze his side instead of piercing through.
Blood splashed.
Riven's eyes widened—
"You let it hit—?"
Iren stepped forward inside Riven's range.
Point blank.
Fire condensed at dagger tips.
"Level One."
The flames did not explode outward.
They compressed.
Brighter.
Hotter.
Deadlier.
"Ignition"
THRRRAAAAAAAM!!!
A concentrated fire blast erupted at zero distance.
Riven was thrown across the arena.
Crashing into the reinforced wall.
The barrier flickered violently.
---
Smoke filled the field.
The crowd was on their feet.
Even the Headmaster leaned forward.
---
From within the smoke—
A shadow rose.
Riven stepped out.
Uniform torn.
Blood running from his forehead.
But smiling.
"…Now that's a Semi Final."
His shadow expanded massively.
Covering half the arena.
This time—
It wasn't tendrils.
It was a domain.
Within it—
Riven's movements multiplied.
Three.
Five.
Seven presences.
All real.
All moving at burst speed.
---
Kael's expression hardened.
"He mastered synchronization…"
Sylven whispered:
"Now it becomes survival."
---
All seven attacked simultaneously.
Iren blocked two—
Dodged one—
Burned another—
But one blade pierced his shoulder.
Another sliced his thigh.
Blood sprayed.
Fire flickered unstable—
Then stabilized again.
---
Riven reappeared above.
Full shadow amplification.
Full burst speed.
"This ends now!"
He descended—
A lethal strike aimed directly at Iren's neck.
---
Iren crossed both daggers.
CLAAAAAAAAAANG!!!
The impact was monstrous.
A shockwave exploded outward.
The barrier trembled violently.
Both of them—
SKIIIIIIIIDDDDDD!!
Their boots tore across the stone floor as they were pushed backward from the sheer force.
Cracks spread beneath their feet.
Dust spiraled upward.
---
Riven's eyes burned.
Iren's flames flickered—
Then—
His ring pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Brighter.
"Level One…"
This time—
At full power.
VMMMMMMMMMMMMM—
Flames erupted around him in a spiraling inferno.
Not wild.
Not chaotic.
Focused.
Controlled.
Then—
With a violent burst—
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
Fire launched outward from his body like an expanding sun—
The entire shadow domain ignited—
Burned—
Shattered—
And vanished.
The darkness was gone.
Only flames remained.
---
Inside the arena—
Iren stood surrounded by blazing fire.
Daggers glowing bright orange.
Heat distorting the air around him.
Riven landed opposite him.
Breathing heavier now.
But smiling.
"…Now this is real."
---
They rushed at each other.
BOOM!
Weapons collided.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Again.
Again.
Again.
Faster.
Faster.
Faster.
Their movements blurred.
Burst speed.
Flame acceleration.
Shadow footwork.
The audience couldn't track them.
The only visible signs—
SPARKS.
Golden sparks exploding every time their blades met.
The entire arena echoed with metallic thunder.
No one was ready to give up.
---
Riven pushed harder.
"I'm the fastest in this academy!"
He accelerated further.
Afterimages overlapped.
But then—
Iren remembered.
A voice from the past.
"Rage without direction is… destruction."
His eyes widened.
Breathing changed.
Flames stabilized.
Then—
He roared.
"AAAAAAAHHHHH!!"
The ring glowed brighter than ever before.
Not exploding wildly—
But refining.
Sharpening.
His speed began rising.
Slowly.
Then steadily.
Then overwhelmingly.
---
Riven's eyes widened.
"…What?"
Iren's movements became sharper.
Cleaner.
More precise.
He wasn't chasing speed.
He was mastering it.
He began outpacing Riven.
Strike.
Block.
Strike.
Block.
Then—
Iren twisted mid-motion—
THUD!!
A powerful reverse kick slammed into Riven's side—
Sending him skidding violently across the arena.
---
Both were breathing hard.
Sweat.
Blood.
Exhaustion.
The audience was silent in disbelief.
Even the teachers stared wide-eyed.
"He surpassed Riven in speed…"
"The fastest first-year… overwhelmed…"
Kael's grip tightened.
Sylven narrowed his gaze.
Lyra…
Simply smiled.
"…It went exactly as I saw."
---
Riven stood again.
Laughing breathlessly.
"You're insane…"
Iren stepped forward.
Flames still burning.
"…Not yet."
---
They rushed again.
One final time.
Everything left.
No reserve.
No hesitation.
Both attacked with absolute power.
CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG!!!
Their weapons collided with full force—
But this time—
Iren's flames surged violently at the point of contact.
The heat intensified beyond limit.
Riven's blade trembled.
Cracked.
Then—
SHATTERED!!
Fragments scattered across the arena.
The impact blasted both backward.
SKIIIIIIIDDDDD!!!
Iren slammed his daggers into the ground—
Stopping inches from the arena's edge.
But Riven—
With no weapon.
No strength left.
No balance remaining—
Stumbled backward.
His heel crossed the boundary.
He fell outside the arena.
---
Silence.
Then—
The referee's voice thundered.
"WINNER — IREN!!!"
---
The stadium erupted.
Cheering.
Screaming.
Roaring applause.
Former opponents stood.
Clapping.
Even those who lost to him.
Teachers nodded among themselves.
"This first-year…"
"He won battles he had no right to win."
"He outlasted everyone."
High above—
The Headmaster smiled proudly.
"…Exceptional."
---
Inside the arena—
Riven lay on his back outside the boundary.
Laughing softly.
Iren walked toward him.
Extinguished his flames.
Held out his hand.
Riven looked at it.
"…So the fire survives the dark."
Iren replied quietly:
"No."
A pause.
"I learned to burn inside it."
Riven grabbed his hand.
Pulled himself up.
Smirked.
"Don't lose to Kael."
Iren's eyes sharpened.
"I won't."
---
And just like that—
The Final was set.
Iren.
Kael.
Two rivals.
One destiny.
---
End of Semi Final 1.
Semi finals continued....
