Adrian had followed the reports for weeks, watching Amelia from afar. Finally, he cornered her at a boutique café downtown.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, his voice low but dangerous.
Amelia froze. She glanced at her son, still holding her hand tightly. "I didn't want you near us," she said, her voice shaking with emotion. "After what you did… after humiliating me…"
He clenched his jaw. "I'm your child's father. You can't keep him from me."
Amelia's heart raced. "You don't understand, Adrian. You don't know the world I had to survive for these three years!"
He stepped closer. "Try me."
Their eyes locked, and the tension was so thick it could cut through steel. Neither wanted to give in, yet neither could ignore the spark between them.
