Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 — The Night of Silent Blades

Night settled over the Heavenly Flow Sect like a vast, endless ocean.

The noise of the tournament gradually faded, replaced by the quiet whisper of mountain winds brushing against ancient peaks. Lanterns flickered along the stone pathways, their dim light stretching long shadows across the outer disciple quarters.

Most disciples rested, preparing for the final rounds at dawn.

But not everyone slept.

Seo Joon sat cross-legged inside his chamber, breathing slowly.

The room was silent except for the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

Within his chest, the Abyssal Heart pulsed — no longer violent, no longer chaotic, but unnaturally calm. Its energy flowed like a dark river through his meridians, heavy yet obedient under the guidance of the Harmonizing Circulation Art.

Yet something felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Too controlled.

As if the Abyss itself were waiting.

Seo Joon opened his eyes.

A faint chill crawled across his skin.

Someone was watching him.

Outside, the night stirred.

A shadow slipped across the rooftops like flowing ink. Its movements were silent, precise, completely concealed within the darkness. Not even the sect's defensive formations reacted.

The figure stopped above Seo Joon's residence.

Cold killing intent leaked into the air.

A thin blade glimmered under the moonlight.

Inside the chamber, Seo Joon's instincts screamed.

He moved instantly.

The moment he shifted from his position—

A blade pierced through the door and stabbed into the space where his heart had been.

Wood exploded.

The door shattered into fragments.

A masked figure rushed forward, moving faster than ordinary disciples could perceive. The assassin's presence was faint, nearly nonexistent — a technique designed purely for killing.

The second strike descended.

Seo Joon barely raised his arm in time.

Metal collided with dark energy.

A sharp ringing echoed.

The impact forced him backward across the room, his feet carving deep grooves into the floor.

The attacker did not pause.

Another figure emerged from the shadows.

Then another.

Three assassins.

Each radiated the cold precision of trained killers.

"Outer disciples don't possess this level of skill," Seo Joon said quietly.

No response came.

Only silence.

Only death.

They attacked together.

Blades flashed from impossible angles, cutting off every path of escape. Their movements flowed like a single entity — perfectly coordinated, mercilessly efficient.

Seo Joon's breathing steadied.

The Abyssal Heart reacted immediately, sensing lethal danger. Darkness surged through his veins, eager to consume everything before him.

Destroy them.

Devour them.

He suppressed the urge.

Instead, he guided the energy carefully, letting it reinforce his body without losing control.

The room erupted into violent motion.

Steel met shadow.

Wood shattered.

Shockwaves split the walls.

Seo Joon deflected one strike, twisted his body, and struck an assassin's chest with controlled force. The attacker was thrown backward, crashing through the wall into the courtyard.

The remaining two pressed forward relentlessly.

A blade grazed Seo Joon's shoulder.

Blood stained his robe.

Pain sharpened his senses.

The Abyss roared.

The air grew heavier.

Dark energy leaked from Seo Joon's body like smoke, filling the chamber with chilling pressure. The assassins hesitated for the first time.

That single moment decided everything.

Seo Joon stepped forward.

His movements became faster — sharper — colder.

One assassin's wrist was seized.

A surge of condensed Abyssal energy erupted from Seo Joon's palm.

The attacker's weapon shattered instantly.

A precise strike followed.

The assassin collapsed, unconscious.

The last attacker retreated swiftly, recognizing the shift in momentum. He released a hidden projectile — a needle coated in spiritual poison.

Seo Joon tilted his head.

The needle passed harmlessly by.

He appeared before the assassin in the next instant.

A single strike.

Silence.

The battle ended.

Broken walls. Scattered debris. Three defeated attackers.

Seo Joon stood in the ruined chamber, breathing heavily.

The Abyssal Heart pulsed violently, dissatisfied.

It had wanted more.

It had wanted to consume.

He forced the darkness to calm, guiding the energy back into stillness. Slowly, the suffocating pressure faded.

But his expression remained cold.

This was no random attack.

Someone within the sect wanted him dead.

A soft ripple passed through the air.

Several powerful figures appeared instantly within the courtyard.

Elder Han.

Two enforcement elders.

And Seol Ah.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the destroyed chamber and Seo Joon's injury.

"You're hurt," she said urgently, stepping forward.

"It's minor," Seo Joon replied.

Elder Han examined the unconscious assassins, his expression darkening.

"They carry no sect insignia. Their memories are sealed."

His voice grew heavy.

"This was carefully planned."

Seol Ah's gaze trembled slightly.

"The tournament…"

"Yes," Elder Han said grimly. "Someone wishes to eliminate him before the final rounds."

A vast pressure descended.

The Sect Master appeared silently.

The moment he arrived, the surrounding air became still.

His eyes swept across the scene — the destroyed chamber, the defeated assassins, Seo Joon's suppressed aura.

"They have begun to move sooner than expected," he said quietly.

Seo Joon looked at him.

"Who?"

The Sect Master did not answer directly.

"There are forces within and beyond this sect who fear what you may become."

His gaze sharpened.

"You must grow stronger faster."

The Sect Master raised his hand.

A small jade token appeared, glowing faintly.

"This is a protection seal from the inner sect. Carry it. It will alert us if danger approaches."

Seo Joon accepted it silently.

Its warmth contrasted sharply with the cold pulse of the Abyssal Heart.

As the elders departed, Seol Ah remained behind.

She helped repair the damaged room using her spiritual energy, her movements gentle yet precise.

"You cannot keep fighting alone," she said softly.

Seo Joon watched her.

"I am not alone."

She paused.

A faint smile appeared.

Far away, hidden within the sect's darker regions, Kang Min stood before a kneeling figure.

"They failed," the figure said nervously.

Kang Min showed no anger.

Only calm satisfaction.

"Good."

The figure looked confused.

Kang Min's eyes gleamed with dangerous amusement.

"The more he struggles, the more his power reveals itself."

He turned toward the distant outer disciple quarters.

"Tomorrow, in the final round… we will force him to expose everything."

Under the moonlight, Seo Joon stood alone once more.

The night wind brushed against his face.

The Abyssal Heart beat steadily.

But now he understood.

The battles ahead would not simply test his strength.

They would decide whether he could protect his secret — or become the very monster the world feared.

And deep within the Abyss, something ancient stirred with quiet anticipation.

The hunt had begun.
