Chapter 170 - Chapter 170: To Kill or Not to Kill

Kakashi knew that Furina had deliberately brought up White Fang because he was here. Although he was also somewhat puzzled about how someone of her age could know about White Fang's past experiences,

none of that mattered anymore. As the son of White Fang, what he cared about most right now was the matter itself.

He had previously recalled many things about his father's death, but most of them were emotional in nature; he had not thought too deeply about why his father had died.

Or rather, he had had vague suspicions, but his subconscious had faintly warned him not to dwell on it further, so he had just muddled through life.

But no matter how much he avoided thinking deeply or deceived himself, now that Furina had brought up old matters again—full of sarcasm though it was—the meaning was very simple. It required no deep thought; Kakashi understood it easily.

Or rather, the matter itself was not that complicated. With Kakashi's intelligence, he could have reasoned it out himself long ago. It was just that something called the "Will of Fire" had always obstructed him from thinking further.

There might have been internal issues in the village regarding White Fang's death, but for the sake of the village's peace and to prevent it from suffering harm because of this, he had always ignored that aspect.

"Since sensei is interested, then you can watch as well. See just how much Elder Danzo truly loves the village."

"Tch."

Hearing Furina mention again how much he loved the village, Danzo's already dark face grew even darker. The words had already reached this point—they could have been frank with each other—but she just had to keep disgusting him, or rather, toying with him.

"Forget it. I'll let Kakashi-sensei think about White Fang's matter himself. I don't want to waste any more words on you. Just as you said,

since everything you did was supposedly for Konoha, then shouldn't the consequences of those actions also be borne by Konoha?

For example, my friend—according to you, Konoha exterminated the Uchiha clan. Normally speaking, it would be perfectly reasonable for the remnants of the Uchiha to seek revenge on Konoha, right?

In that case, the destruction of Konoha would also be because of you—Elder Danzo, who is wholeheartedly devoted to Konoha. After your death, how would you face the First Hokage and Second Hokage?"

"Furina, I..."

Upon hearing "revenge on Konoha," Uchiha Hikari started to explain, but Furina immediately raised a hand to stop her. With a playful expression, she waited for Danzo's next response.

"It's just sophistry. She has a very good relationship with you and will definitely not act against Konoha. Even if we really discuss this matter, I would only regret not having eliminated all the Uchiha, which led to this situation occurring."

"Sigh, I was wondering how you would continue explaining, but it turns out that's all. How boring."

Looking at Furina's disappointed expression, Danzo—who had already prepared himself for death—could not help but twitch again. As expected, this vile person had just been amusing herself all along.

Rather than being toyed with like a clown, it would be better to end it quickly.

Although Danzo had recovered some strength during the back-and-forth, and Furina opposite him appeared very nonchalant, he still had not the slightest confidence in escaping— not even the chance to use the seals on his body.

The mere feeling of powerlessness just from her standing there was something even his teacher, the Second Hokage Senju Tobirama, had never given him. Only two people had ever made him feel this way before.

One was the "God of Shinobi" Senju Hashirama, whom he had seen when he was very young, and the other was the "Uchiha Madara," the Asura of the ninja world.

There might be some influence from his own heavily injured and weakened state, but the fact that she could produce this feeling already proved certain things.

"This guy is the culprit who annihilated the Uchiha clan. So, do you want to finish him off personally?" Since Danzo no longer had any intention of continuing to explain, Furina did not plan to waste any more time.

"Although I was once part of the Uchiha, you know my past, so I hold no good feelings toward the Uchiha clan either. If I want to kill him, it's simply because he displeases me.

But I also know his position in the village is very important. If killing him would cause trouble for you, then it's actually fine not to kill him."

Although Danzo's words during the earlier battle had not had any effect at the time, now that the dust had settled, Uchiha Hikari could not help but recall them.

"..." Watching Furina and Uchiha Hikari seemingly discussing something, a faint glimmer that could be called hope reignited in Danzo's previously vacant eyes.

Although the two had moved farther apart during their conversation and spoke very softly—so that Danzo lying on the ground could not hear them clearly—if they truly intended to kill him, there would be no need for so much discussion.

This meant there was a chance at life. Although after Furina's earlier mockery, Danzo had already prepared himself to die—since Furina did not seem like someone who would let him go—

their current discussion and hesitation clearly indicated a turning point. If he could avoid death, Danzo definitely did not want to die—especially not in such a humiliating way here.
