Chapter 36: What a Huge Misunderstanding
Accompanied by the voice, Furina's figure also entered the line of sight of the three Sound ninja. Worried that Furina might have teammates lying in ambush nearby, even as she drew closer and closer, the two Sound ninja didn't dare make a move. They could only threaten her with bluster while trembling inside.
"I'm warning you, don't come any closer, or else we will..."
"Don't bother looking. It's just me alone."
Seeing the two Sound ninja threatening her while glancing around in search of her supposed teammates, Furina couldn't be bothered to hide it and directly told them the truth. No choice; she was just that considerate.
"She seems to be telling the truth. No trace of anyone else."
After hearing this, the two Sound ninja first exchanged a glance. Once they confirmed the same answer, one of them gave a sinister grin and asked viciously in return.
"Looks like it's really just you alone. Should I call you confident or arrogant? Coming to face us all by yourself. You don't seriously think you alone can take us on, do you?"
"Ryōsuke, this little girl looks pretty nice. We could..."
Before that Sound ninja could finish voicing his idea, Furina's chakra suddenly erupted. Powerful chakra turned into endless pressure that crushed down on the two of them, freezing them in place and forcing the unfinished words back down their throats.
"Sorry, but I don't really want to hear the rest of what you were going to say." With that, Furina pulled out a kunai, toyed with it in her hand, and walked toward the two. If they couldn't speak properly, they might as well shut up.
Now Furina finally understood why so many people liked using their killing intent and chakra to pressure others. She had to admit, this feeling really was satisfying.
"We had eyes but failed to recognize Mount Tai just now. Please, spare us this once. And the scroll, right? You came to us for the scroll, didn't you?
We'll give you the scroll. That way there's no need for us to fight each other anymore. What do you think?"
"Oh~ Is that so?" Hearing this, Furina fell silent for a moment, seemingly considering whether to accept their proposal. After a while, under the tense gazes of the two Sound ninja, she slowly spoke.
"Then hand over the scroll."
"Okay, okay. Ryōsuke, hurry and give the scroll to this lady." "I got it. Why are you rushing me?"
Seeing that Furina seemed to have agreed to their proposal, the two Sound ninja breathed a huge sigh of relief.
From the chakra Furina had just erupted, they already knew they were absolutely no match for her. Even their village head might not be much stronger than her. If they really fought, it would definitely be a situation with no chance of survival.
After receiving the scroll handed over by the opposite Sound ninja, Furina weighed it in her hand a couple of times before putting it away. It was exactly a Heaven Scroll. Lucky. Once those two woke up, they could head straight to the central tower.
"Um, Lady, we won't bother your eyes here anymore. We'll be leaving now."
After watching Furina store the scroll, the two Sound ninja cautiously asked for permission, afraid that one wrong move might anger her again.
"Leave? When did I ever say I was letting you go? I only told you to give me the scroll. I didn't promise anything else, you know~"
"You tricked us!" Seeing the smile that appeared on Furina's face, the two Sound ninja finally realized what was happening. This woman opposite them had never intended to let them leave in the first place. She had just been toying with them.
"You didn't really think I'd let you go so easily, did you? How naive. If I just let you walk away like that, who would provide me with the fun of the hunt?"
After spouting some snake-like words, Furina even pretended to lick her lips, putting on the appearance of a villain. Unfortunately, paired with her appearance, it really held no intimidation at all.
"Karin, we're going somewhere else to look for a scroll. This woman is your problem now."
Karin: "Huh?"
Although they had been drenched in cold sweat by Furina's chakra, at this life-or-death moment they no longer cared about fear. Forcing themselves to rally, they prepared to flee.
But their speed was completely unimpressive in Furina's eyes. Plus the chakra pressure had affected them too. So the moment they turned to run, Furina instantly caught up.
Then came one kick each. Under Furina's full force, both flew backward at speeds far beyond their own, crashing through several trees before finally stopping.
"Having a little girl fight me. Aren't you two looking down on me just a bit too much?" Not long after the two stopped, Furina arrived, not forgetting to throw in some sarcasm.
Neither of the two Sound ninja had any special physique, and their basic abilities were only average among genin. After taking one kick from Furina, they didn't even have the strength to run anymore. They could only lean against trees, gasping for breath with faces full of terror.
"Since you're not speaking, then never mind. Let's just end it here." Furina didn't particularly enjoy torturing and killing. With that, she used a single Water Cutting Wave to put an end to the two's fear.
The only reason she had toyed with them earlier was because she found their treatment of Karin displeasing.
Although such things happened a lot in the world and she couldn't control them all, if something like this happened right in front of her, she absolutely wouldn't pretend not to see it.
The reason wasn't that she was some saint. It was simply that doing so made her feel better. That was all.
After finishing off the two, Furina returned to the previous spot.
At this moment, Karin was still trembling in place, clearly badly frightened. Because just now she had already sensed that the chakra of her two "teammates" had completely vanished.
"Was the way I acted just now really that terrifying? It shouldn't be, right?"
Seeing Karin's terrified appearance, Furina couldn't help feeling a bit of self-doubt. She had clearly been very popular since she was little. How could it turn out like this?
"It must all be because of Orochimaru. If I hadn't imitated that guy, I definitely wouldn't have ended up in this situation."
After silently pushing all the blame onto Orochimaru in her heart, Furina began thinking about how to comfort the other party. Right now it looked as if she had bullied her. If anyone saw this, it would be a huge misunderstanding.
"Hey, hey, open your eyes and look at me. Don't keep them closed."
After thinking it over, Furina decided to have the other open her eyes first. She felt that the reason Karin misunderstood her was entirely because she hadn't looked at her properly yet.
She, Furina, obviously looked like a good person at first glance. How could anyone be afraid of her? She wasn't some bad guy.
After hearing Furina's request, Karin could only tremble as she slowly opened her eyes. Of course, this wasn't because the misunderstanding had been cleared. It was because Furina had just killed both of her "teammates" in such a terrifying way. Under the pressure of the other's overwhelming presence, she had no choice but to obey.
