Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: A Fierce Sea-and-Land Battle, Evolution Under Dragon’s Might

"What?! It's actually Dragonite!" Bill locked an incredulous gaze onto the ancient Dragonite after hearing the Pokédex analysis. Comparing its body outline to that of a normal Dragonite, he finally accepted that the mysterious Pokémon was in fact an ancient Dragonite.

"I never expected the mysterious Pokémon to be Dragonite—but how can its size be like this?" Bill wondered.

"Pidgeotto, use Hurricane to blow away the mist!"

Red decisively sent out Pidgeotto to disperse the fog, allowing Ash and the others to witness the true form of the ancient Dragonite. As the mist cleared, its appearance came into view. Just like the ancient Pokémon sleeping in the back hills of Pallet Town, this ancient Dragonite bore mysterious gray stripes across its body, faintly radiating a strange magical aura.

"Is Dragonite really a kind-hearted Pokémon? Why does that Dragonite look so furious?" Ash asked timidly.

Having been deceived by insignificant humans, even an ancient Dragonite with the best temper would lose its composure. Enraged, it lashed its tail and destroyed the lighthouse, reducing the towering structure to rubble in an instant. Fortunately, Red used his psychic power in time to shield Ash and the others.

"I understand how Dragonite feels. I've been too selfish all along, only thinking about understanding its feelings while ignoring the loneliness it felt searching for companions…"

Bill confessed remorsefully, regretting everything he had done. Though he had wanted to understand the ancient Dragonite, he had only ended up hurting it.

After destroying the lighthouse, the ancient Dragonite's expression shifted from fury to gloom. Its anger had lessened, but it still harbored resentment over Bill's deception.

"Aura abilities, reside within my heart," Red murmured softly, using his Aura abilities to communicate with the ancient Dragonite, trying to soothe its anger.

"If you're searching for others from the same ancient era, I know of a place where three ancient-era Pokémon are sleeping."

(Is that true? I won't be deceived by you humans a second time!)

A voice echoed in Red's mind. He understood that the ancient Dragonite was using telepathy. After receiving Red's promise, it felt somewhat relieved—at least it now had a goal and no longer needed to wander aimlessly across the sea.

As for why the ancient Dragonite trusted Red: first, it sensed the righteous Aura abilities within him; second, it detected the Rainbow Wing he carried. A human like that could hardly be evil. Thus, the ancient Dragonite chose to believe him.

During their exchange, Red learned that the ancient Dragonite had awakened due to an accident and had wandered in this era for years, searching for other ancient Pokémon from its time.

"Dragonite, have a Pokémon battle with me!" Red's eyes burned with intensity as he stared at the ancient Dragonite. Sensing his fighting spirit, it did not refuse. Instead, it strode with its massive body onto the sea near the lighthouse, indicating that this would be their battlefield.

"Don't worry. I wouldn't do something without confidence." Seeing the concern on everyone's faces, Red confidently threw out six Poké Balls. Six Pokémon appeared simultaneously on the beach, staring solemnly at the distant ancient Dragonite. This was the opponent they had trained to defeat. To face it, all six removed the Pokémon enhancers they had worn during training.

(Let your companions come at me together. That way, you'll have a chance of winning.)

Since the ancient Dragonite suggested a group battle, Red naturally agreed. A rotation battle might not exhaust it—but a team fight might offer a chance at victory.

Pokémon: Dragonite (Ancient Form)

Type: Dragon + Flying

Moves: Hurricane, Dragon Rage, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Rush, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam,

Dragon Dance, Fire Punch, Outrage, Hyper Beam…

Description: An ancient-era Dragonite, an immensely powerful Pokémon!

"Beedrill, use Pin Missile!"

"Charmeleon, use Flamethrower!"

"Onix, use Stone Edge!"

"Pidgeotto, use Air Slash!"

"Gyarados, use Hydro Pump!"

"Scyther, use Razor Wind!"

All six Pokémon unleashed their attacks at once. The ancient Dragonite did not relax for a moment. It sensed their formidable strength and treated the battle seriously—especially since it was fighting Red. It had no intention of dampening his blazing spirit.

Roaring, the ancient Dragonite's right fist crackled with electricity. With a single Thunder Punch, it shattered all incoming attacks.

"How is that possible?! It broke brother's attacks with just one move!" Ash exclaimed in shock. He couldn't yet comprehend the ancient Dragonite's power—he could only stare in awe.

"It's not an opponent that can be defeated easily," Brock said gravely.

"Now we can only see what Red plans…" Bill murmured anxiously.

"Ash, you have to believe in Red's strength!" Misty reassured him.

"In that case… let's go all out!"

Red lowered his cap slowly. The exposed left eye turned crimson as astonishing psychic power, Aura abilities, and the Power of Viridian erupted from his body, resonating with the six Pokémon on the field.

Psychic power enhanced their reactions, allowing them to dodge and strike weaknesses more effectively. Aura abilities strengthened their bodies and perception, improving attack power and targeting. The Power of Viridian granted stamina recovery, enabling them to endure intense combat.

Beedrill not only received the enhancement of all three powers but also established telepathic resonance with Red, triggering the state of Aura Resonance.

"This is truly eye-opening!" Bill exclaimed, unable to believe what he was witnessing. It surpassed everything he had understood about Pokémon Trainers—a whole new realm.

"What's happening, Brock?" Ash asked in confusion.

"It's beyond our understanding, but it's clearly an enhancement of ability!" Brock replied.

Red and the six Pokémon burst forth with their aura, dispelling the surrounding mist entirely. The battlefield against the ancient Dragonite became crystal clear. The ancient Dragonite gazed solemnly at Red and his team.

(Human, you are powerful. And your companions trust you deeply!)

Acknowledging their strength, it decided to hold nothing back.

It opened its mouth and unleashed roaring flames. The antennae on its head crackled with intense electricity, and its wings beat rapidly, generating a violent storm.

Seeing this, Ash and the others quickly retreated, unwilling to hinder Red's battle.

"Beedrill, use Drill Run!"

"Gyarados, use Hydro Pump!"

"Onix, channel the electricity into the ground!"

Beedrill spun like a steel drill, splitting the storm in half. The crimson Gyarados fired a massive water column, clashing against the ancient Dragonite's Flamethrower. The enormous Onix stepped forward to absorb the electric assault, guiding the current into the earth.

"Charmeleon, use Dragon Breath!"

"Pidgeotto and Scyther, use Air Slash together!"

Charmeleon exhaled azure Dragon Breath. Pidgeotto and Scyther released sharp wind blades. The Dragon Breath intertwined with the slicing winds and struck the ancient Dragonite, successfully injuring it.

"Incredible!" Misty gasped, never expecting they could harm such a powerful foe.

"We've trained on this beach just to defeat you, ancient Dragonite!" Red shouted, excitement blazing across his face.

The ancient Dragonite regarded them approvingly, then locked its sharp gaze onto the gigantic Onix. Swinging its tail, it used Aqua Tail, intending to eliminate the Pokémon that countered its electricity.

Its massive body stirred up towering waves. Aqua Tail surged forward with the sea. Fortunately, the gigantic Onix didn't stay put—it immediately used Dig to escape. The others rushed in, using their bodies to block the assault.

Beedrill's twin stingers struck relentlessly with Fury Attack.

Charmeleon's claws glowed green as it slashed with Dragon Claw at the tail.

Pidgeotto's wings shone white as it used Wing Attack repeatedly.

Scyther's body radiated green light; empowered by honing, it charged with X-Scissor.

The crimson Gyarados transformed into its "Dark Dragon form," baring sharp fangs to bite down with Crunch.

Pain shot through the ancient Dragonite, forcing it to retaliate. Spinning around, it used Dragon Claw, knocking the five Pokémon to the ground. Immediately after, it unleashed Dragon Pulse—purple-gold energy forming a draconic shockwave that surged toward them.

The resurfacing gigantic Onix showed no fear. It used Double-Edge to counter Dragon Pulse's force, intending to shield its companions.

"Charmeleon, rush forward and absorb the energy of Dragon Pulse—evolve under Dragon's Might!" Red shouted, throwing the prepared Dragon Fang.

Trusting Red absolutely from beginning to end, Charmeleon caught the Dragon Fang and without hesitation dashed in front of the gigantic Onix, actively absorbing the Dragon Pulse's energy. Brilliant evolution light erupted from its body.

"Charmeleon is evolving!" x4

Charmeleon's body transformed. Wings sprouted from its back. Intimidating dragon horns grew atop its head. Its limbs developed five sharp claws instead of the usual three. Even more astonishing, dragon scales formed over its orange hide, creating a suit of draconic armor. The evolved Charizard now radiated overwhelming dragon might.

At present, Charizard stood 2.7 meters tall—fully one meter taller than an ordinary Charizard. Its physique was far more robust, lacking the typical "potbelly." Its thick upper limbs promised devastating punches, its standing lower limbs appeared powerful rather than bulky, and five sharp spikes had grown from the tip of its tail, giving it a fiercely aggressive appearance.
