The Marina Bay Financial Centre was a towering monument to global wealth, a sleek spire of glass and steel overlooking the Singapore Strait.
I walked into the lobby at 2:00 PM, wearing a sharp, light-gray suit. The kind of suit that says "I don't carry cash, I own the bank." I bypassed the main reception desk, using the encrypted keycard Nia had generated to access the private executive elevators. The security guards didn't even look twice. Julian Croft had a reputation for not talking to staff.
The forty-second floor belonged entirely to Julian Croft's holding company.
I stepped out of the elevator into a sprawling, five-thousand-square-foot office space. It was beautiful, featuring panoramic views of the bay, polished hardwood floors, and frosted glass partitions. The afternoon sun cut across the floor in sharp lines. It should have been full of people.
And it was completely empty.
